If the reform party and the conservative party can join, I see no problem with a NDP / Liberal coalition.

And that is perfectly democratic. Harper would still have to be PM and name his ministry's thought.

The opposition party would be running the show and that's perfectly fine, if the majority of the Canadian population voted for someone other then the minority government winner, then it's democratic.

Hypothetical question. The local candidate for the best party is an idiot, but the candidate for another party shows knowledge, wisdom, character, etc.

Which do you vote for?

Of course, in theory, one votes for the best candidate.

Unfortunately, that simple solution is complicated by the fact that the good man, if a back bencher, will be little more than a trained seal clapping flippers for the Great Leader...........our system has become quite perverted in that way.

So, I can not say. It all would depend on how bad the good guy's party and leader were.........and how good the idiot's party was......

Neither do I, but let's vote with that option out in the open.

A significant portion of the Liberal Party of Canada's support is much closer philosophically to the Conservatives than to the NDP. They would abandon Pretty Boy in a millisecond rather than have the NDP with a hold on power.

They count too.

This is no such thing as a best (or worst) party. They are all bull sh*t, make promises they won't (can't) keep, tell lies and steal from the taxpayer. Once in a blue moon (very blue) you might find a good politician (there's been four or five in the past 100 years). Forget the party, vote for the man/woman.

Fact that Conservative John Tory won Mayoralty of Toronto rather than left winger Olivia Chow may be an indication of the way things are going. At the Federal level Harper's party could re-win government though what kind remains to see. Also whether Harper decides to follow his own edict of a 2015 election or he ekes it out to 2016 is his very interesting and as yet unspoken decision.

John is a Liberal in Con clothes.

He cares too much about social values, talks about investments and actually believes in climate change (gasp!)

That is easy, the local candidate is less important than the legislation created by the elected gov. I vote in favor of party platform, or against party platform.

And so , as I said.

The government would not be able to do anything unreasonable.
Those members closer to conservative views would voice their
Disagreement. And that will force a new government.

If Trudeau decided to make a coalition after the elections are done.
All who disagree with that would turn against him.

I have confidence our democracy will prevail.

Which explains James Bond why some pushy power seeking candidates of whatever party are idiots when acting for their electorate.
I join Angstrom in 'I have confidence our democracy will prevail'

There is a selection process for the candidates. If you aren't happy with the candidate of your choice party, you should get more involved.

Oh, and he actually talks to Kathleen Wynne, which automatically kicks you out of the Con treehouse club.

Due to the supremes having the final vote it would be very difficult for any majority party to initiate legislation that is totally off the wall and have it stick. But a far left government could cause short term economic havoc.

I like John Tory.

He will be a great mayor of Toronto.

Well, nobody is perfect.

Unfortunately the party leader can and often does overide the local party choice. And then there are some really waco things imposed by the party such as the NDP deciding some ridings can only have a female candidate. As far as I know they are the only one to do this.

I already know who my Liberal candidate will be in the next federal election. I emailed her asking, acknowledging that inflation and interest rates will likely rise in the next few years, whether she would tend towards raising revenues +taxes, fees, fines, etc.), reduce overall government expenditure, some combination of the above, or something else among other questions. She said she will answer me in January.
