He did the thing a favor. Poor thing couldn't hide from predators. It would have been ripped to shreds while still alive for a demise.

as it turns out that is correct, which was inadvertent (so does not lessen the fact that he is an azzhole)

good things come out of bad actions all of the time

he killed it because it was bagging the trophy of a life time

Man is part of nature. Hunting is natural. It died of natural causes. No big deal..

so then their birth isn't rare, but it is rare that they live to adulthood?

Yup. Sheltering an animal is more cruel than taking it out.

I agree that some think it is no big deal, others think it is at least according to the reactions.

I was merely observing his need to have such a unique spirit as a trophy upon his wall thus he thinks it's a big deal and somehow believes it lends him some type of boost at least in his circle of friends and family.

Were I to enter his abode and set eyes upon it, being overwhelmed by his skill at taking down such a magnificent creature would not be something that would elevate him in my eyes. Would it diminish him, I don't know. Perhaps.

Nature isn't a zoo and man is not a zoo keeper for severally disadvantaged wild animals.. If you want to see a white deer go to the museum he is donating the mount to. Don't force it to live alone in tremendous fear. Because it stood out other deer avoided it at all costs. Are those deer being mean or do they see it as a threat to their safety?

It was a clean shot through the heart. It fell instantly and went into the light with the other white deer.

lol...in order to respond in such a manner you either did not read my reply, or have totally misunderstood what I wrote

for me, this is not reflective of the deer nor the aspect I examined...the psychology of buddy was my focal point, the rare albino deer was merely a stepping off point to illustrate his perspective and did so in a lovely manner

It wasn't for ego. It's instinct to hunt. It just happened to be a white deer that crossed his path. I'd take it too. Hunting is all about opportunity and with two tags and antlered males only it's already restricted opportunity. Other than being disadvantaged it's still just a deer.

no? he said it was the opportunity of a life time...
I do agree though with it being about the instinct to kill although I would add to that the need to acquire which I would label as ego need

and I also agree that a deer is just a deer especially for the meat

Of course it was. The next to come along might be a doe or too young.

Hunting and killing is in you too. Let's just hope food remains abundant and you never have to kill your neighbor over a half rotten potato.

while survival is an instinctive reaction, so is heroism and sharing albeit, the sharing and caring are on a higher level...there's a line and each of us decides where the line is and what is worth doing in order to survive or even simply to bolster our own ego

some have a low threshold others have higher standards...it has always been so and always will be

It did OK for 7.5 years, most don't make it that long. Maybe it had a great set of genes in spite of the coat colour. It probably bred a number of times. Nobody seems to care that it was past it's life expectancy anyways, but animal rights activists are notoriously ignorant of things like that.

That's why nature isn't a zoo for cute critters. He was no old man of the forest Sunshine. Far from it.
