Isles Coach Capuano was briefly a member of the Canucks. Had a short NHL career after doing very well in Maine - I believe he holds the record for most career goals for the Black Bears. GM Garth Snow also played for the Black Bears but had a longer career as goalie.

interesting stuff

One thing I remember about Capuano was that he raised a stink about being sent down to the minors to play. He thought that college was a good prep for the NHL. Indeed, that's what many think since there have been a number of players who have gone into the pros from college. But in actuality, college is NOT the ideal prep for the NHL as full time play in juniors is a far better way. The NCAA allows only 20 hours of practice per week during the regular season and only 8 hours of practice in the off season (this without access to coaches) . But in juniors the practice time is unlimited and the player gets access to pro coaches all year round. After three or so years the player is stronger and in far better form to earn the promotion to the NHL as a juniors player. This is something Capuano never came to deal with during his playing days.

One thing the Canucks seem to have learned, is how to win a one goal game. Many times in the past, the Canucks have carried a one goal lead into the last few minutes of the game and saw that lead disappear because they coughed up the puck at the wrong time and the game was lost. The season is still young and who knows, if the Canucks could win a few important games and become.. a ,,,,contender....? Stranger things have happened.

Well, they are ahead of all the dreaded California teams, which at the start of the season was probably conceived to be their biggest nemesis. Of course other teams are taking their place, which will probably be just as formidable, so they undoubtedly have a lot of scraping and scratching to do!

there have been a fair number of college players who made it into the nhl, one eg i remember is 'brendon
morrison', for the canucks, played on the line with bertuzzi and naslund, a great skater and player, he also won the 'hobey baker award'. and i believe keven bieksa won the academic award As well as play thru his
hockey scholarship, the top young goalie whom canucks just drafted is back in college again this year. i think there are more players now than before being signed out
of college, sure the junior leagues are the best as far as competition and coaching, but those good college players
do get a good look from scouts, and maybe the college hockey levels are better now than years ago. once they get a couple of years in the ahl, they soon catch up on the heavy schedule which better
prepares them to be brought up to the nhl parent team.
not many junior drafted players go straight into the nhl, they also have to play a couple of years
in the ahl too.

True but much easier to make the transition to the pro ranks from juniors than college. In thinking about Capuano's career, I honestly feel he could have succeeded more in the NHL if he had the proper attitude about playing in the AHL. But that's just speculation on my part. At any rate, he is succeeding now and it is doubtful that he will ever look backwards.

this is a battling hard working team, this coach has put an ingredient into this team they haven't had
under other coaches, even though some of those teams were actually better teams, they lacked that
special ingredient needed, i think that ingredient is the desire to please the coach and play hard
for him, cause he has their back and will fight for them as well, that is a real team.

i liked vineault a lot, but he kept himself sparated from the players a lot, left the leaders of
the team to run the dressing room, torterella was just an arrogant jerk, who confused the plAyers,
and had a poor concept of how to be a good coach.

this team is fun to watch, whether they win anything this year or not, i don't really care, but it
looks like they will be a playoff team, and thats good, they have belief in themselves again, they
know what is expected of them, they know how good they really are, not how bAd, the coach instills
that spirit in them.

i'm enjoying their games, thats all i ask, they won't win em all, but definitely their share.

Chi > StL 4-1

the game was close for the most part but the Hawks dominated in the third period - while a decent enough match I just cannot get stoked for games that do not involve NY teams

you'll just have to enhance your horizons, its more fun when you begin to know more teams and become
familiar with the players, took me a long time, but now i'm all over north america with my enjoyment
of nhl hockey.

i'm a canuck fan at heart, but i have emotional interests with lots of teams, including the rangers.,
well, even though they are in the eastern conference, lol, i'll forgive them for that. lol

love the islanders too, i even peak in to see how florida is doing from time to
time, as luongo is there, kind of miss him.

Penguins host Canucks in reunion for coachesWednesday, 12.03.2014 / 8:09 PMAdam Kimelman - NHL.com Deputy

Vancouver Canucks vs. Pittsburgh PenguinsCANUCKS (17-7-1) at PENGUINS (17-5-2)

TV: SN360, ROOT

Season series: The Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Vancouver Canucks in shootouts in their two games last season. Evgeni Malkin scored the only goal in the shootout in a 4-3 Penguins win in Pittsburgh on Oct. 19. On Jan. 7, Sidney Crosby scored with 54.3 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game and then scored the only goal of the shootout. Crosby had two goals and three assists in the two games. Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa had four assists in the two games. The last three games between the Penguins and Canucks have gone to the shootout. The Penguins have won four in a row against the Canucks; the last time Vancouver beat Pittsburgh was Jan. 16, 2010, in Vancouver. The last time the Canucks won in Pittsburgh was Nov. 22, 2008.

Canucks team scope: After scoring one power-play goal in five games and three in 10 games, the Canucks scored three times on four chances in their 4-3 win against the Washington Capitals on Wednesday. Daniel Sedin scored two of them and Radim Vrbata had one. "I think our power play has been good," captain Henrik Sedin, who assisted on both of his brother's power-play goals, told the Canucks website. "We haven't scored the way we've wanted to the last couple weeks. But we made a few changes, put Danny in the slot and [Vrbata] in front, and it opened up a lot of things for us. Put Danny in more of a position to score and he was able to score a few." The game will be a reunion for Penguins coach Mike Johnston and Canucks coach Willie Desjardins. They have been on opposite benches as coaches in the Western Hockey League and also have worked together with Hockey Canada. "Mike and I are real good friends," Desjardins said according to the Canucks website. "Mike was the best man at my wedding. We've always stayed in touch. We talk about lots of things. It's great to see him do so well in Pittsburgh. He's been a great fit for that team."

Penguins team scope: Forward Marcel Goc, who has missed the past two games with a lower-body bruise, practiced Wednesday and could play Thursday, Johnston told the Penguins website. "I felt I had a good day with the team and we'll see what the doctor says," Goc said, according to the Penguins website. Goc has one goal in 22 games but is tied for first among Penguins forwards with 16 blocked shots. Goc's return would somewhat offset the injury absences of forwards Chris Kunitz (foot) and Scott Wilson (leg). "You can't dwell on the fact that guys are out," Crosby told the Penguins website. "You need to make sure that you rally and find a way to win games. Some guys may have to accept more of a role or elevate their game. We're all in it together. So we've got to find a way to make sure we keep playing well."

I didn't know the Canucks schedule included a Pee Wee team. They really should let the kids touch the puck once in awhile. Sharing is caring.

Nope. Ditto for the Vikings, T-Wolves, or Twinkies.

As for other NHL teams, I do watch but just don't get as stoked as when a NY team is playing. Occasionally, I do watch the NBC game of the week, especially the outdoor matches which, to me, are really kool.

Tonight I watched a double header as,

NJ > Tor 5-3

NYI > Ott 2-1

Nice tribute to Alfie by Ott team and fans.

well, the one goal was a big boo boo by pitts goalie, but doesn't matter, canucks had that game

fully under control right from the drop of the puckl.

good for eddie lack, its definitely time the team got him a win.

next game, sat in toronto, i guess its one game i have to watch, that toronto is part of,

oh well, i'll get thru it somehow. lol

A game like that can be great for a team that is growing. They out-shot Pittsburg by about 30 to 21 and they kept the Penguin's big guns off the scoreboard.....not always an easy job. I liked just about everything the Canucks did tonight. This is one of the games on this road trip that I expected them to lose.
Cheers....

its funny how teams 'get up' for certain other teams, and can't seem to for some.

it is very obvious how the wings were ready for canucks the other night, they were as up as any
team could be starting a game, then gradually settled down to a more normal pace after the
first period, THEN a couple of nights later the wings played florida and were beaten, a prime
example of playing a team they didn't have much respect for, and the 'fight' in the team just
wasn't there, they just went thru the motion of playing without the intensity needed to win.

tonight canucks were feeling that way starting the game against pittsburgh, and the battle and
determination to be the victors was obvious throughout the game, and the pens couldn't produce
much of anything. go figure.

its not becAuse one team or the other is far and above 'better', becAuse all of them are capable
of winning on any given night, it is the mindset, but when both teams feel 'up' for a game, then
it is a doozy.

i didn't expect the canucks to lose tonight, but i knew they shouldn't take penalties, becAuse of
the status of pittsburgh's power play, but even that looked feeble tonight.

pittsburgh will be ready next time, a bit of an arrogant group who thought canucks were just another
run of the mill team, ho hum, just go thru the motions, and win. um sorry, doesn't work that way.

if you or any team doesn't come to play, chalk up a loss and go home.

teams playing at home should have the advantage, especially if the opposition has travelled a long
way, and have played a couple allready, didn't work that way tonight, but might as the road trip
goes along, it is very tough, 7 gAmes on the road isn't a piece of cake, and if desjardin can keep
them sharp and fresh all the way through, he will be a hero.

Yeah, it's a tough life!:)

i know, i'll have to endure, or maybe i will just go to a movie or something exciting, like

clean out the bathrooms, or wash the garbage cans, there is always an alternative choice. lol
