i am going to find that call against burrows again somewhere, cause i thought he did not touch the
goalie at all, but the detroit player ran into howard and knocked his helmet back, anyone else
see it that way or?

our top line has to step up, the twins lack of skating definitely shows up in this game, they must do
more, i thought they looked a bit better last 5 minutes of first period, so we'll see how the second
goes. as great as they are, their game disappears if they can't keep up with the skating, and
detroit are skating so well, we must match that.

The Canucks are getting out-worked . Their defense has been sloppy. They are down by a couple but
they could get back in the game with a goal or two. Do you think the general manager can trade for a couple
good defenders ?

we have to appreciate how well detroit played in the first period, and also that hamhuis is out of the
lineup, a very important player for canucks.
any teams defense would have been taxed to the limit against that particular team and that particular
period, the second period was a bit more even, detroit, or any other team can't play at that speed
all game, they were awsome.

vancouver's defense has been very solid for them to this point in this season.

Well the better team won....or maybe the hardest working team won. I admired the Canuck's tenacity in the las few minutes of the third period but it was too little too late. I think Vancouver needs a couple good defenders.

pretty good game the rest of the way for canucks against another pretty good team, who had a hell of a good
first period, and when a team is on the road, and playing detroit, who have been playing excellent
hockey at home of late, it isn't easy to just take over a game off the top.

but they did fight back, but things didn't quite happen for them, daniel gave up the puck, a blatent
give away right at the end to give up an empty netter.

also, if the high stick on hanson had of been called, it would have been a 4 minute power play, also
could have made a big difference.

not a bad performance by canucks, a good test on the road.

mathias had a very good game.

you know juan, every team in the league is always on the look out for high end defencemen, consequently
noone can get one from anybody. they are the hardest players to acquire.

there are teams who would love to acquire a couple of canucks defencemen, but they Are not available.
they are usually home grown, and come up from the farm teams. canucks were very lucky to acquire
hamhuis, and only got him because he is from smithers, and he wanted to play in b.c. close to home,
so canucks got him, that was lucky.

edmonton's downfall is because of lack of good defense, and they can't even get them, had to put that
very young defensemen in the lineup far too early, consequently he didn't get to be groomed in the ahl,
and he is making mistakes, they had to bench him occasionaly, not a good scenario for a young guy who
shouldn't have to play in the nhl yet. defencemen take longer to develope than forwards, and don't
usually play in the nhl for 2 to 4 years after being drafted, with a few exceptions of course, there is
always those.
canucks have frankie corado, who came very early, but started to make rookie defensive mistakes, and had
to drop back down, he will be back when he developes more, could be soon if there are more injuries.

so when you say that canucks should get a couple of defencemen, where would they get them, if a team gave
up a defenceman, he would not be their best, he would be their bottom guy, that would do no good At all.

and besides i don't agree with you anyway, the team ran up against a hot as a firecracker team who is
playing great hockey at home, that alone will make the opposition make mistakes, and it isn't just
the defense, it is the 'team defense' which includes the forwardsplaying the proper defense when they
should help their back end and their goalie.

canucks are going to run up against other teams who are tough to play against, just as canucks are tough
to play against for other teams, then the game has mistakes, that is what the game is, a game of mistakes
which causes the opposition to have chances, on both sides.

Talloola, you are doing your Delphi Oracle impression again. There is no doubt Vancouver needs a couple good defensmen. I don't know where they might get any. It is far too early to hope for any trades. . For the first two periods the Canucks were thoroughly out worked. In the third the Canucks came back a bit but they were a couple goals down and couldn't seem to catch up. I thought the refereeing left something to be desired.

wow, i'm impressed, although i have no greek ancestry at all.

when hamhuis returns then the bottom guy will go back to new york, that will bring them back to their
normal group.

no, because there isn't any, defencemen are a treasured asset, and the teams hold tight to them.

if canucks traded for a top rated defenceman can you imagine what they would have to give up, it would be
ludicrous, don't do it please.

yeah, it took the canucks a period to get their legs under them, but don't you realize how that can be
quite common for many teams on the road, it happens, doesn't mean that you panic and holler for trades,
just means that you persevere till the legs are there, AND please recognize how over the top detroit
played in the first period also, give them credit, and no it wasn't the first two periods, the game
began to even out in the second period, not instantly but very obviously to us sitting there watching.

if we had been given the 4 minute power play we should have had, and if daniel hadn't coughed up the puck
directly to datsyuk with the empty net, canucks could have easily played to a win, then you would have
forgotton all about anything you said previously, its so simple.
canucks outplayed detroit enough in the second and third periods to get a win, just didn't happen.

detroit have lost their share of games this year, not recently though, they are at the top of their game
right now, and they had lots of respect for the canucks coming into their rink, a win would have put
the canucks at the top of the league, can't really see too many flaws in a team that has worked that
hard to this point to gain those points and demand that much respect.

this is a 7 game road trip, they will lose again before they come home, doesn't mean the end of the
world, or panic time, just the way it goes.

yours truly, Delphi

Tampa Bay > Rangers 6-3

Looks like TB is the league's cream of the crop this year. Rangers tried everything in the book but they were just no match for TB which has everything they need to win the Stanley Cup. Perhaps they keyed in on Callahan too much. But the fact that they scored six despite their top line being shut out shows the great depth they have. They sure played one awesome game tonight.

Canucks continue seven-game road trip at Capitals

Vancouver Canucks vs. Washington Capitals CANUCKS (16-7-1) at CAPITALS (10-9-4)

TV: SNP, CSN-DC

Season series: The teams split the two-game series last season. The Washington Capitals are 40-37-9-1 all-time against the Vancouver Canucks and 24-16-4-0 on home ice. Washington forward Alex Ovechkin has five goals and seven points in eight career games against the Canucks; Vancouver forward Daniel Sedin has five goals and eight points in 12 career games against the Capitals. The game marks the sixth appearance by Vancouver at Verizon Center since the 2003-04 season.

Canucks team scope: Goaltender Ryan Miller lost for the first time in four games Sunday, 5-3 to the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. Forward Alexandre Burrows was accidentally cut on the face by the skate of Red Wings forward Johan Franzen during a collision in the second period but returned to the game. Vancouver will play the third of a seven-game road trip Tuesday. Canucks general manager Jim Benning told Vancouversun.com on Sunday that defenseman Dan Hamhuis could be out six weeks or longer with a lower-body injury. Hamhuis, who will not require surgery, sustained the injury on Nov. 20 against the Anaheim Ducks.

Capitals team scope: The Capitals, who lost 6-2 to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, are still without defenseman Mike Green. Green, who has missed the past three games with an upper-body injury, did not participate in practice at Kettler Capitals Iceplex on Monday. At the time of his injury, sustained Nov. 22 against the Buffalo Sabres, Green was leading all Capitals defensemen with 12 points in 19 games. Capitals coach Barry Trotz told CSNWashington.com that there is a chance Green could return to the lineup either Thursday against the Carolina Hurricanes or Saturday against the New Jersey Devils. The Capitals finished the month of November 6-6-2.

good effort tonight for canucks, got them the win. just one break down in the 3rd when the were playing
4 on 4 and were very sloppy in their own end, and allowed washington to tie it up.

fantastic slap shot by daniel to give them the lead again, and they held on to that 4-3 lead to win the
game.

7 points for the top line tonight.

edler played very well with his duties to stop ovetchkin, who didn't do much at all tonight.
what a turnaround for edler this season playing for 'willie desjardin', like night and day.
he's got his confidence back and is looking like the top defenceman for the team, along with
tanev, and bieksa, although he still gives me fits at times, but the good he
does is very good.

next gAme in pittsburg

jim benning was asked about the possibility of trading for another defenceman because of the hamhuis
injury, his answer " the next guy has to step up", he won't be trading.

apparantly he called around (according to the media) putting out feelers for a possible trade, but
it didn't take long for him to squash that idea, as teams want everything, to give up a defenceman.

Excellent performance by the "Sedin Sisters", contrary to the advice we've been hearing from the much esteemed hockey connoisseur, I think they should be allowed to continue.:) Great game! Pittsburgh could be a tough nut to crack!

Islanders > Ottawa 3-2 in OT

Thought the Isles scored on a last second goal to end the second period but the replay showed it did not. Looks as if luck was on the side of the Isles as the winning goal deflected off the skate of a defender.

The announcers discussed how this is the last year for the team in Nassau Coliseum as they will be heading for Brooklyn next year in the new arena that is situated only blocks from where I had my earliest memories in life near Fort Greene.

the leader and best player on that team is a wonderful young canadian, john tavares, and many other
canadians on the team as well.

Isles Coach Capuano was briefly a member of the Canucks. Had a short NHL career after doing very well in Maine - I believe he holds the record for most career goals for the Black Bears. GM Garth Snow also played for the Black Bears but had a longer career as goalie.
