Vancouver Canucks vs. Edmonton OilersCANUCKS (7-3-0) at OILERS (4-5-1)

TV: CBC, TVA SPORTS

EDMONTON -- Defending the Vancouver Canucks' twin scoring sensations, Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin, has proven difficult for the Edmonton Oilers this season.

The Sedins and linemate Radim Vrbata have combined for 13 points in two games against the Oilers, who will play Saturday for the third time this season.

"They're good players. They are so good at keeping possession of the puck," Oilers left wing Taylor Hall said. "They don't give it up for anything. And to be honest, they play hard, they battle hard. So against players like that you want to keep the puck as much as you can and make sure we're playing in their end. When they have the puck it's almost like you have to go to the other Sedin if one Sedin has the puck and make sure you play hard on him. I'm looking forward to that matchup [Saturday]. If we can outplay them it's going to give our team a good chance."

Daniel and Henrik Sedin have enjoyed success against the Oilers throughout their careers. In 76 games against Edmonton, Daniel Sedin has 35 goals and 74 points; Henrik Sedin has 17 goals and 76 points in 79 games against the Oilers.

"The human nature part against them is the part that you don't want to do," Oilers coach Dallas Eakins said. "The human nature part is to back off and play safe against them. But we need to close quickly, give them no space. … As much as we can see their backs [Saturday] the better."

Daniel and Henrik Sedin are off to strong starts this season; each has 12 points in their first 10 games. Vrbata has five goals and 11 points this season.

"I think always after you have a tough season you want to come back and play well," Daniel Sedin said. "For us it was more about coming back to playing the way we have to play to be successful. I don't think we had been doing that the last year and a half maybe. That was more our mindset coming into the season."

As good as they have been offensively against the Oilers this season, the Canucks' top line also has been able to shut down Edmonton's top line of Hall, center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and right wing Jordan Eberle. In the two games against Vancouver, Hall, Nugent-Hopkins and Eberle are pointless.

"That's a very skilled top line, and if you give them room they're going to make you look silly," Daniel Sedin said. "You have to be ready for that line. And I think they have a deeper lineup this year too. You have to be ready for them, especially on their home ice. They seem to be skating really well here."

Vancouver defeated Edmonton 2-0 that started the Oilers' seven-game homestand that will end with this rematch with the Canucks. After losing that opener the Oilers won their next four games, all against Eastern Conference opponents, but lost 4-1 to the Nashville Predators on Wednesday.

After playing the Canucks on Saturday, the Oilers start a five-game road trip Tuesday against the Philadelphia Flyers.

"Our fans have been great during the homestand," Eakins said. "They've helped us along and we'd like to leave them with something positive before we head out the door for a couple of weeks. That's where sometimes these things get rolling into something else. You win a big game against a big rival at home and then you go onto the road and that's where you want to keep that positivity going. Especially rolling into the East, where we've had some success."

Goaltender Ben Scrivens will make his eighth consecutive start for the Oilers; Ryan Miller will start in goal for the Canucks.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

will be interesting to see how canucks and oilers match up this time, as oilers have won 4 since last
meeting, and lost one. the 4 wins were against eastern teams, which is a bit of a different style
than the west, more run n gun, more open, which fits oilers very well, with their speed and offensive
talented players.

Enough to say the Canucks won again. 3 - 2 The Canucks now have 16 points which puts them ahead of just about every team in the NHL. Granted, we are in the 9th or tenth game and positions change pretty quickly. The team is looking a lot stronger than I expected. They are probably going to challenge for a playoff spot but we'll see if everyone stays healthy.

Don't think you have to worry yourself about a playoff spot, #Juan, they are 4th place in the league with games in hand! (going on the supposition they don't let up)

The CBC have once again proved that they are useless as teats on a bull.

No feed for the game was provided on the page given just plain text-attempts to contact CBC with complaints were met with 'page not found'

the season is so young i wouldn't even begin to think about 'that' they don't have to worry about
making playoffs, jeesh, they haven't even played 15 games yet.

but, i see them as having positioned themselves very well this early, As they are going to travel
soon and play those california powerhouses, so better that the team has a bit of a cushion, and
if they flounder in california, all is not lost.

l.a. hasn't exactly scared anyone yet, but then they didn't start fast last year or the year
before that either, cause, as i always say, and i'm sure it has become boring, doesn't matter
who finishes near the top, as long as you make the playoffs, as l.a. proved two years ago,
when they almost missed the playoffs, but had fought and scraped so hard to get in, they
were on a roll, and won the cup, so any team can win the cup, once they are 'in'.

san jose isn't beating everyone either, and anaheim looks strong, but all three are good
teams, and can win on any given day, but they have to come to play, just like the canucks.

what i still see with canucks is very poor faceoff percentages, they must improve in that
department.

tonights game with oilers was fiesty, they outplayed cAnucks for two periods, but canucks
outplayed them in the third. taylor hall was trying to do the impossible when he hurt himself,
he had no room to cut in front of tanev, he was too close to the goal, he did that to himself,
and now i wonder how long he will be out.

ferrence should get a suspension, very similar hit as burrow's, but ferrence has had two
prior suspensions, burrow's had none, just a few fines.

canucks play nashville tomorrow, they started very strong, but have levelled off somewhat,
but getting the puck past renne is quite a chore.
we were trashed by colorado last time we had a back to back, so tomorrows game will be a
big test.

ferrence does have a phone conference with the league todAy, so he will be getting some sort of suspension

for his head hit on kassian.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
do ya think? do ya think????, maybe bo horvAt might play tonight?, just wondering.

he played 5 games down on the farm, no points, don't know if that meant anything
or not, we'll see and know soon.

Nashville Predators vs. Vancouver CanucksPREDATORS (6-2-2) at CANUCKS (8-3-0)

TV: FS-TN, SNP

VANCOUVER -- The Vancouver Canucks and Nashville Predators may not recognize each other when they meet for the first time on Sunday night, but they look a lot alike with new coaches.

Under Willie Desjardins, the Canucks are trying to push the tempo, forcing opponents to make mistakes with speed and rolling all four lines to keep players and the pace fresh.

That sounds a lot like what veteran forward Mike Fisher has seen from the Predators under new coach Peter Laviolette.

"We are aggressive, we forecheck and we're relentless on the puck and he really stresses that," said Fisher, who was one of three Predators to skate Sunday morning as he continues to rehab from offseason surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon.

Fisher, who has been skating for five weeks and hopes to add contact drills before returning later this month, likes what he has seen so far from the Predators (6-2-2) since Laviolette replaced Barry Trotz.

"We always want to be a puck-pressure team and hard on teams and that's when teams struggle, when you are forcing them," Fisher said of the style adjustment. "We have the speed and energy and because we can roll four lines too, we can maybe do that a little more than some teams that aren't as good on the back two lines as we are."

It's a departure from the more defensive mindset the Predators and Canucks stressed while missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season.

Nashville ranks 20th in the NHL with 2.50 goals per game, but Laviolette plans to keep pushing the tempo even after the aggression cost his Predators a few too many rushes the other way during a 4-3 loss to the Calgary Flames on Friday night.

"Looking back we gave up a little too much against the rush, which means we were maybe a little but overaggressive at times in the offensive zone," Laviolette said Sunday, adding it was something they showed on video and talked about before playing Vancouver.

That doesn't mean the Predators want to change how they play, especially since Nashville is generating positive possession numbers.

"It is a recipe for success. We just have to continue to push the pace," Laviolette said.

Fisher pointed to the offseason additions of forwards James Neal, Mike Ribeiro and Derek Roy as a big part of the change.

"That's brought us really good depth and we play four lines with the best of teams and our offense is spread out," Fisher said.

It sounds a lot like the Canucks under Desjardins, who has spread the minutes and scoring around during an 8-3-0 start with the NHL's fourth- highest scoring offense at 3.27 goals per game.

Every forward averaged more than 10 minutes a game before Tom Sestito played 6:25 in his season debut against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. The result has been a more balanced attack, with the new top line of Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin and Radim Vrbata leading the way early and the third and fourth lines chipping in with six goals in the past three games.

Sestito even had an assist in his limited debut Saturday, but the recall of Bo Horvat from a conditioning stint in the American Hockey League had many wondering if Sestito might sit against Nashville.

Horvat, the ninth player taken in the 2013 NHL Draft, was sent down after injuring his shoulder in the preseason. The 19-year-old center was pointless in five games with the Utica Comets, but knows it's his faceoffs and two-way game that will keep him in the NHL rather than being sent back to junior hockey.

"I wasn't going down three looking to put up a ton of points," Horvat said. "I was really happy to go down and get my legs back under me and start playing before I stepped into some NHL games. I definitely needed to get my speed and timing back."

Here are the projected lineups:

Injured: Mike Fisher (Achilles tendon)

report: Laviolette confirmed Bartley would make his season debut after Volchenkov was suspended Sunday for four games for an illegal check to the head of Calgary forward Michael Ferland in the game Friday. "We'll miss [Volchenkov] for sure, he brings a different element to our team," Laviolette said. "When you are faced with a little adversity it's an opportunity for somebody else and we are comfortable with Victor going in there." … Horvat wasn't sure if he would make his NHL regular-season debut against the Predators, but after skating hard for an hour in the morning it didn't look like it. The same goes for Stanton, a defenseman who is ready to return from an Oct. 17 groin injury but can't find a spot in a lineup that has won four straight. "I can't wait to finally play an NHL game in the regular season." Horvat said. "Hopefully it comes soon." … The Canucks are expected to start Lack in goal after Miller played Saturday, but don't announce that before the game.

Who's hot: Ribeiro has an assist in each of his part two games, eight points in the past eight games, and is tied with linemate Forsberg for the team lead with eight points. … The Canucks' top line was blanked for the first time this season in Vancouver's 3-2 victory at Edmonton on Saturday, but the third and fourth lines continue to contribute offensively. Dorsett has a goal and two assists in his past two games, including a shorthanded game-winner against the Oilers.

yep, thats their second win in a row now, and buffalo is also getting a win here and there, and oilers
are as well, teams will
improve and other teams will falter, makes the season more interesting.

this game with nashville has slowed somewhat compared to the first period, and with players beinhg
injured and not returning, canucks have their hands full, and are behind by one now.
too bad that one goal for nashville went off of hamhuis's stick.

game kept deteriorating for canucks, injuries, back to back and it showed. lack played very well,
nothing in this loss points to him, he is in a unfortunate position to have to play the second
game when they have back to backs, so that is his bad luck, but things could have been much
worse without he playing that well.

and as i said, on top of other things, that one goal had to go off of hamhuis's stick, if he had
left well enough alone, the puck would have passed by the goal harmlessly.

bieksa won't be travelling with the team, a big loss for the team, wonder if they will bring a
definseman from farm, maybe corado, and i think we will see horvat soon.

they have a big challenge ahead now, four tough games, hope they do well, but they are high in
the standings, so they do have some insurance for the bad spells.

Rangers need to strengthen their checking and they have to shore up that defense. Five D men injured at the same time? Where do they get such vulnerable players, for goodness sake?

nobody vulnerable would last 5 minutes in hockey, this game is rough, tough, and an injury is waiting
around every corner, doesn't matter how big or how small A player is, they Are all a possibility for
injuries, and all teams go thru their share of them at one time or another.
they have to put themselves in harms way many times during a game.

bieksa latest example for canucks, playing hard on the boards the other night, all of a sudden the
puck shot up right into his eye area, just unlucky at the second. turns out he isn't seriously
injured, seems it is close to the eye, but not his eye, so he is travelling with the team now,
and listed day to day.
of course now he will be trashed for not wearing a visor, sure he should, but many
players can't seem to adjust to a visor, but it is grandfathered in, so eventually
they all will be wearing them.

avAlanche hAven't hAd a very good start to their season, and patrick roy has criticized them on the media,
wants more from the forwards, and mentioned iginla's name, as he was the player standing still while
the player skated right past him and scored the winning goal, SO, tonight they will be out in full
force trying to show roy that they are better than he stated.

a good game for horvat to start, as colorado has lots of very young players, and he can feel quite
equal to them, and may enjoy his first game better than against another team.

Vancouver Canucks vs. Colorado AvalancheCANUCKS (8-4-0) at AVALANCHE (3-5-5)

TV: SNP, ALT

Season series: The Colorado Avalanche defeated the Vancouver Canucks 7-3 at Pepsi Center on Oct. 24 in which Matt Duchene, Jarome Iginla and Tyson Barrie each had three points. It was the largest margin of victory against Vancouver and the most goals allowed by the Canucks this season.

Canucks team scope: The Canucks saw their four-game winning streak end Sunday in a 3-1 loss to the Nashville Predators, but the bigger concern might be the health of defenseman Kevin Bieksa. Bieksa left the game and Rogers Arena after being struck in the eye with a puck. Though his status for Tuesday remains uncertain, the Canucks announced Monday he will be traveling to Colorado. "I don't think it's as serious as what people think it is," general manager Jim Benning told the Vancouver Sun. "I talked to the doctor [Sunday] night and we're just waiting to see this morning how much blood built up around the eye, or in the eye. Once we know that, then we'll have a better idea as to Kevin's availability." Canucks forward Tom Sestito (lower body) is out indefinitely. Forward Bo Horvat, the No. 9 pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, will make his NHL debut against the Avalanche.

Avalanche team scope: Colorado is 1-2-2 in its past five games and has scored more than two goals once in that stretch. In a 3-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks at Pepsi Center on Sunday, the Avalanche were unable to generate offense for long stretches and had two shots on goal in the second period. Anaheim goalie Jason LaBarbera, called up that morning and starting because John Gibson was a late scratch with a lower-body injury, was playing in his third game in as many days. "We don't really care who's in net, we have to take care of our side of things and we didn't do it in the second period," Colorado's Matt Duchene said. "First period was great, third period was pretty good, we just lost the game in the second period. Two shots on a guy who obviously got called up at the last second isn't good enough." One bright spot for Colorado was a first-period goal for rookie Dennis Everberg, the first of his NHL career.
