Spent the first years of my voting career a devotee of the NDP.

Was upset when they forced out the Waffle faction, although I kept voting for the NDP for a few more years.

Yes, I was a lefty.

Just never a Liberal. :).

i bet they did!!!

Rotflmao.

And you changed for the same reasons mentioned in this article?

I'd like to know why you changed.

And you changed for the same reasons mentioned in this article?

I'd like to know why you changed.

Not entirely.

I liked the NDP when they were a "grassroots" party of the left, when they reflected the views of the social gospel men that were the founders, and the rural farmers they preached to........

I fell away from the NDP for a number of reasons. As I learned more about both life and socialism, I began to realize that socialism required a depth of control that was at odds with my own socially libertarian ideas. As the NDP turned to large unions and the urban "intelligensia" for their support, I began to sense they had little tolerance for views outside their own, and as a working man, I knew full well the unions supporting the NDP were NOT reflecting the wishes of their membership, and the urban elites that supported the NDP were totally divorced from any coherent reality ..............and then the NDP jumped on the gun control band wagon. That was the end of my support for them, but not the end of my growing disenchantment with the left.

I began to recognize how incredibly inefficient the state was in any enterprise they took on......

Then waves of political correctness...oh my!! Culminating in Svend Robinson telling an audience in Fredericton that "We have a RIGHT not to be offended"

WHAT????

And that was greeted with cheers from the left.

If he has a right not to be offended, then all other thought processes that offend him must be banned.

And there it is.

I rolled further right.

Edit: on re-read, that does not reflect my political journey very well at all..........I like to tell people I grew up and my brain stem became fully connected, but that is a cop-out....with a grain of truth.

Obviously, I liked the article I posted, and it can be taken as paralell to my own journey.....but with somewhat different starting points, stops, and end............

It's well known he passed more laws in his time in services then any other prime minister.
By a land slide.

Even if he didn't contribute directly to everything I mentioned, he did contribute the most as a single person in how great Canada is today.

Are you saying Canada is not the greatest place on earth? Cause if you are your a spoiled brat.

Your just as worst as those people in the article he mentioned are hating just for the love of hating.

Your life is a cake walk here in Canada because of all our government services. And you still find something to hate about it even though it's a amazing country.

First addressing the extremes leftists do not want to be communists nonsense
I am left in some things but that does not make me a communist
Conservatives on the other hand have right wing perspectives that does not
make them want to be Nazis.
Some actually have the mistaken notion that Hitler was a left winger not true,
National Socialism (Nazi) was a right of center concept
Anyway labels are all the rage used by the left, and their crazy notions of social
engineering and we are labelled almost anything if we disagree.
Now walk to the other side of the room, The right wing perspective (conservative)
have the old hand over the heart, flag waving crap to build a sense of (yup Nationalism)
the conservative church movement has joined in to label anyone who does not see
their vision of the world as in league with Satan
I am quite left of some issues and I am very conservative on other issues it does not
make me a communist, leftist, or a Nazi or a conservative or any other label someone
wants to hang on me. I think for myself and need neither to form my opinion,
My label? Individual I will leave it at that

Imagine that. A country in which you have the freedom to think and live as a individual. You all realize you get shot dead in many country's for doing that?

And Pierre Elliot Trudeau is to thank.

No, he is not. There are a lot of people and politicians that are collectively responsible for how great a Country we live in. P.E.T. is not the sole contributor nor is he the majority contributor.

No but he contributed to it the most compared to others on a individual basis.

Only look at the number of legislation he passed in his time of service compared to any other prime minister individually. Trudeau wins by a land slide.

Canada wasn't built in one day

Canada was 100 years old by the time Trudeau came onto the scene.

Only look at the number of legislation he passed in his time of service compared to any other prime minister individually. Trudeau wins by a land slide.
