these are a few of my favs all of which are on my iPod

I was born in 1958. The first songs I remember hearing were:

KYU SAKAMOTO- "SUKIYAKI" - YouTube

Melanie Safka Lay Down (Candles In The Rain) - YouTube

Led Zeppelin - Immigrant song - YouTube

then my 70's consisted of BTO, April Wine, Trooper, Elton John, Aerosmith, Gamble & Huff offerings, plus the good disco stuff and the likes. Classic K-Billy's Super Sounds of the Seventies fare basically. Not enough time to list them all.

T-Rex

John Lennon called them the Beatles of the 1970s.

I don't believe they knew I was a schoolboy...

For a guy that is NOT a druggie, Anderson sure can pin the feeling...............

Ian Anderson has always been a great artist - one who paints pictures with words. His vision is great and his lyrics portray what he sees in real life. Much of that view is painful such as "Aqualung" where he sings a sad song about a homeless man who walks the streets of London. My understanding is that 'aqua' is a reference to coughing caused by water in the lungs of the sick. Anderson sees this pathetic creature walking the streets whose one solace in life is the neighborhood Salvation Army dinner plate and he portrays him with great sensitivity.

The British have a way of doing that such as this classic by Ralph McTell:

Im a huge Beatles fan but I consider this to be far from their best, though I will say "A Day in the Life" is my favourite song of theirs. As far as an album goes I'd much rather listen to Rubber Soul, The Beatles (White Album) or Abbey Road.

T-Rex

John Lennon called them the Beatles of the 1970s.

He said that about Elton John too.

I never could work up too much enthusiasm over the Beetles, certainly not like Elvis or Johnny Cash!

Ten years too soon perhaps. Id put Cash up there but he wasn't just a 60s or 70s person. I think he did his best stuff in the 50s and in his last ten years or so. Id put him above Elvis though who knows, maybe Elvis would have returned to form and did some really good stuff had he not died in 77.

We praised Ian Anderson above for his great songs - but he was also a great producer as shown in his great work with Steeleye Span:

From the album "Now We Are Six" [1974].

Great stuff - very artistic.
