Reason is not an impediment to faith, Dex.
It certainly has been in my life, and in the history of the western world. Things that don't make sense are not to be believed.
Reason (head) and faith (heart) are partners designed to work in concert. An integrated individual utilizes both head and heart to more fully and accurately discern and navigate the art and science of life.
I think your metaphorical association of faith with heart is false, but apart from that, I find that statement stunningly naive. There's no design, for starters, and what do you do when faith and reason come into conflict, as they inevitably will? Faith retreats is what happens. Much of the history of the last 400 years or so can be understood as faith retreating from making claims about the world in the face of the scientific revolution. There's a reason why the church no longer has the secular power it once had in the West.

A traumatized/neglected and barricaded heart is a hindrance to faith, Dex. Reason is not.

Argumentum ad hominem. But you're concluding everybody who disagrees with you is defective because you love them as Jesus commanded, right?

See, Dex?

Yes, I saw that right away, and have so far avoided pointing out how arrogant it is, but I've had enough of being told I'm defective by people who don't understand what they're talking about. There's nothing quite like the casual arrogance of the self-consciously meek.

The self righteous always see those who do not agree with them as defective. If you and I are defective, then maybe her god ain't so perfect after all, seein' as we are supposed to be created in his own image. Her god must be defective too.

I've done it and try not to.

It leaves me with a feeling like I just told a kid there is no Santa Claus.But here goes;

Faith in this day and age is a misnomer.

It's just another word for I am trying to understand because I think it might be my duty to.

Or the cruder ,I'm trying to believe in the supernatural because I want things.

I know most of the bible sounds like a comic book and I don't want to settle for it being a metaphor ,because it will take any hope of these things I want not to happen, or happen.
It's like it can solve anything. And just because it never does , does not mean it isn't true.

I want there to be a super guy out there helping me and I don't want to think of alternatives other than the tried and true.
One sec....uhm, ok so it has been tried and never came true except in really stretch it out coincidence, but that doesn't matter to me, I want this to be true.

Think of it, your own personal Jesus..lol..did I just steak that line or did I just have an epiphany ?

Prayer really helps me when I'm frightened and see no light at the end of the tunnel.

Enough already!
If any of the above rings true to you , you need to try this .

Turn your back on this god of yours.
Try and live without it like it's tobacco.

Find out that maybe you are more of a creature than meets the eye and certain events that took place in your life had everything to do with you and your mind and will power.

Buddha said this,"Do not look to any god or demon to help you for they cannot. Even I cannot help you"

Even though every Buddhist knows this , check out the millions paying for fake money to be burnt in front of Buddhist temples and incense burnt as offerings in order to ask for favor.

It's like Buddha knew that eventually if this one edict stuck in the cacophony of teachings that would follow his death, some would get what he really was all about.

The myth of him leaving royalty (ugh the humanity!) to live as a wanderer another edict that if stuck would lead us to the reality of total non attachment. Absolute power over beings in exchange for total freedom.

In any case, as the tacky piece of plastic hanging on this beautiful but dreadfully boring girl's toilet i once read long ago,"If you let her go and she comes back you have her". Egads, my memory fades, what was that saying? anyone?
Let your faith go, live without it for , ok how about 40 days and 40 nights, and see what becomes of your life.

Take it as a testament to you being you.

The biblical/Christian worldview holds that every human is suboptimal, TBones, not just those with a different worldview. Such a worldview is cause for personal humility.

Suboptimal? That's soft pedalling it pretty seriously, not at all a fair representation of what Christianity really says. Sinful, wicked, and depraved, would be more like it.

You've convinced me your personal humility is a pious fraud. Anyone who needs to mention their personal humility almost certainly lacks it. I think you're convinced you're absolutely right beyond any possibility of being wrong, or you wouldn't have told me 3 or 4 times about how defective I am or mentioned your personal humility. The truly humble do not say the things you say.

One more time: reason is an impediment to faith because reason, properly used, will show you that many of the claims of faith are extremely unlikely to be true. Like this one: there is (at least) one supernatural being that has some interest in us and can be induced to make changes in the world by properly framed entreaties. Anyone who prays must believe that. And what is the evidence for it? None, really, it's just anecdote and hearsay, nothing that doesn't have more prosaic explanations.

Dexter this road your on with these people could turn into years of you doing this if you are not careful.

I swear it could happen to you.

It might seem like it's a whole new episode or something but it's the Twilight Zone I tell ya.

It's 5 years go by and you still could be at this.

Be careful, just saying .

I think we got off on the wrong side of the bed or something.

The whole thing where you were explaining to some tard about his hallucinations.

I got all protective of the tard and then we went south. Sorry , I did not realize the tard was an angry tard.
He needs an awakening and maybe your the guy to do it.

Just be careful this could be like some never ending twilight zone saga for you.

o i'l tak tht as hint
It was probably meant for me.
He'll also claim one verse that 'sums it up' is not enough but the fate of 'the rest' in Re:20 is too much if it requires reading all of Hebrews 12 and Isaiah 65 and that is the summation. If you want the child's version there are animations available next decade.

The post is as long as it was because I carried it to the new earth part rather than leave it 'mid-stream'. It's quite a bit shorter than it was a few years ago. No matter who the comment was for it only means he missed what was within 'all those' word thingies'

Nobody reads all your word thingies, but if it amuses you, keep it up.

First, you are not talking about "every human," you are limiting your judgment (judge not, lest ye be judged. Remember that one?) to those humans who do not have faith. Trying to obfuscate that behind the doctrine of original sin is a cowardly act.

It's also simply incorrect. Christian doctrine holds that we are cursed from birth and destined to be tortured for all eternity by the god who claims to love us. That's a long way from "suboptimal."

Yep, kinda like a big d*ck.

It's already been years, on this board and its predecessor. I don't expect I'll ever change anyone's mind, but these people's claims have to be challenged, if only for the sake of those who haven't made up their minds yet.
Sorry , I did not realize the tard was an angry tard.
Oh he's way past being merely angry, but it's only words in this little virtual world, nothing to be concerned about in real life, where he'd probably be hitting people if the persona he presents here is real. But I don't think it is.

No apology was necessary, but thanks anyway. Misunderstandings happen, especially when words are all we've got, with no nuances of body language or tone of voice to inform them, so we all need to give each other lots of slack in a forum like this.

Stockholm Syndrome. Interesting.
