Hither and yon
Down here we think people create their own riches.

Is that the fine bouquet of fermenting American sour grapes that I detect?

Perhaps if Americans spent less time worrying about themselves and more time worrying about their less fortunate neighbors and shared communities the American middle class could improve itself?

Most Canadians tend to recognize that national defense, a universal national health system, a nationally based judiciary and legal system, a nationally based system of social services complete with support systems for the needy,

Pause

a national currency complete with banking structure and fiscal policy, a national park system, a nationally levied business income tax, a nationally levied personal income tax; all of which is overseen, updated and monitored by a democratically elected national government is a large part of what makes Canada the nation that it is.

Perhaps to deny this, to deny our shared Canadian community and only focus on the self would be in the eyes of some Canadians a very foolish perspective.

But, in my view, more important yet is what Canadians don’t care about.
They don’t care about what Americans think about Canada.

And, of course, the U.S. has none of those.

With $1 Million in assets, easy. Through the bank, it's called a mortgage!

How would you suggest you service that mortgage each month when you don't have a monthly income?

And, of course, the U.S. has none of those.

You really ought to think about getting some of these wonderful things... Some great upside associated with it

Can I get the whole package at one go? At Zeller's maybe? Or can I order it from amazon.ca?

I would never dream of asking you to pay retail on this.

I get a discount at the wholesale level, so just send me bank draft made out to cash and I'll get you in on the sly.

PS - Act now, and I'll throw in a K-Tel Patty Stacker AND Record Selector AND your first record as a bonus (shipping and handling separate)

PS - Sorry for the Blackleaf-esque waste of bandwidth

It's a Canadian attitude and national pride thing.
Oh, I see. The confusion came in when you said (and I quote):

"Most Canadians tend to recognize that national defense, a universal national health system, a nationally based judiciary and legal system, a nationally based system of social services complete with support systems for the needy,

Pause

a national currency complete with banking structure and fiscal policy, a national park system, a nationally levied business income tax, a nationally levied personal income tax; all of which is overseen, updated and monitored by a democratically elected national government is a large part of what makes Canada the nation that it is."

Well, I don't think there's many would accuse Americans of not having national pride, might even be a few here and there might could think maybe we have too much national pride.

So, to sum up. . . we got all the things you mentioned so far down here too, except for "Canadian attitude."

So I calculate that must be what makes the difference.

I don't think you get it.
Oh, I get it.

well I'm not rich by any standards probably not really middle class...maybe lower middle now, nothing like some of my friends and my income has dropped significantly since I changed jobs... However, I can easily live on a contract basis and only likely work 9 or 10 months of the year and still do okay.

then again, I'm not greedy and am easily content

of course there's always room for more but I wouldn't think the article is far wrong

You're doing well Sal, and probably avoiding a stroke or hypertension. Don't tell too many or Helmet will make a law against it.

lol...sometimes I think I should be pushing it out there but frankly I'd rather have less cash and more time
