i watched the edmonton game, it was a very good game till the third period, then st louis turned up
the burners, and left oilers in the dust. i was surprised that oilers kept pace with them for two
periods, after all st. louis is the top team in the nhl, not anything like the islanders, so i can't
compare the two games at all.
the game also got very rough, and chippy for both teams.

boston is a very very good team, so it you are waiting around for them to lose, you'll be doing lots
of waiting. iginla has 22 goals now, and is having a very good season, boston is a perfect team for
him, pure team play, with an excellent coach, and iginla fits right into that format, he has always
been 'all team', so boston is the place for him.

Don't despair Talloola, it's just me, at the moment I dislike Boston and Chicago- Boston for the 2011 final and Chicago for Duncan Keith's thuggery on Dan'l. -:)

i know exactly why you dislike those teams, it is obvious, i felt the same, but after a certain time
goes by i have to drop it and move on.
i really like duncan keith, did before he elbowed daniel and i now see him as that same player i've
always like for his stellar play, same with boston, i've always like their coach, i like the team,
i like the way they play, and it isn't anything like they played in that cup final series, except
on occasion, and when they go into playoffs, their play will ramp up Again, like most teams, and
on they go.

i mean it was the canucks errors, and poor play by luongo and others, no power play, and had they
played the way we had seen them play earlier in the season, and early in those playoffs, they
would have won the cup, they choked, that isn't boston's fault.

jeesh i've seen a number of dirty plays over the years, how about the time mcSorley swung his stick
at donald brashear, one of the worst things in the game, and bertuzzi as well, i watch him now and
have let all of that go, he has paid his dues, and i can't go thru my life disliking people forever,
as it is a game, not my family, and all of these players move on as well, so should we. they don't
play far into the future hanging onto incidents, and i'm sure if one asked daniel to this day, he
would agree that keith lost his head for a second or two, (as he isn't a dirty player at all), and
time has erased those negative emotions, as they are a drag on one's life.

wow, that was long winded.

MacSorley was a third rate thug and Bertuzzi was 10 times worse. I can't stomach him to this day and can't understand why people consider the coward to be a hero. He totally destroyed a man's life over a hockey game. They forget the man is more important than the game!

McSorley, is a retired hockey player now, he participates in lots of panels and discussion hockey
groups, just watched one the other day, about 6 of them, he's just fine, and so is brashear, and
i'm sure the two of them have had a beer or two together over the years and discussed that awful
day.
bertuzzi plays for detroit, they gave him a chance to move forward, (no one thinks he is a hero),and he has done fine, and
steve moore was not going to continue playing hockey anyway, he was a fourth liner, and was
planning to go to school to become a lawyer i think.
i don't know for sure to this day if bertuzzi was actually responsible for the cracked vertebrae
as when he sucker punched moore, and moore fell to the ice, there was a crowd of players all
jumped on top of bertuzzi and moore, so i've always wondered at 'what ' point did that vertebrae
actually crack, not from the punch.

people make mistakes in life, some much more serious than hockey mistakes.

go ahead a carry all of that hate around, it only hurts you, no one else, as everyone else has
moved forward, steve moore, donald brashear, daniel sedin and on and on, but not you.
its ten years since the bertuzzi/moore incident, and they still haven't settled everything in court,
it is becoming a joke.

PrintCANUCKS (30-28-10) at CAPITALS (30-27-10)

TV: RDS, SNET-P, CSN-DC+

Last 10: Vancouver 3-6-1; Washington 5-4-1

Season series: This is the second and final game between the Vancouver Canucks and Washington Capitals. Daniel Sedin had a goal and an assist in the Canucks' 3-2 victory at Rogers Arena on Oct. 28.

Big story: These days, even when the Canucks win they seem to lose. A critical 3-2 shootout victory against the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday to begin a four-game road trip was marred by the loss of forward Ryan Kesler to an injured right knee. He was scheduled to return to Vancouver and will miss the remainder of the trip.

Team Scope:

Canucks: The NHL's 29th-ranked offense desperately needed to get some production from forward Alexandre Burrows. His first two goals of the season -- in his 36th game -- allowed the Canucks to erase a pair of deficits against the Jets before Chris Higgins scored the deciding goal in the shootout. Eddie Lack bounced back from a horrific third period in the collapse against the New York Islanders on Monday and stopped 32 shots.

The Canucks pulled within four points of the Dallas Stars for the second wild-card spot, but the Stars have three games in hand. Vancouver has 14 games remaining, fewest in the League.

"It was a really important game for me, for sure," Lack said in the Vancouver Sun. "I just needed a big bounce-back game and I'm sure happy that we got the win. After they scored to make it 2-1 in the third, I had to come up with a couple of good saves and I did. So obviously it was a really big relief for myself."

Capitals: The situation in Washington is also tenuous following a home-and-home sweep earlier this week at the hands of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Capitals sit three points outside a wild-card spot and the teams they're battling with all have a game or two in hand. Washington has 15 games left.

"There's definitely a higher sense of urgency in the room," rookie defenseman Connor Carrick said in the Washington Post. "Guys are saying it: We need to be more desperate, we need to play harder, earn that bounce. That's the message in the room, but we've got to make it happen."

Jaroslav Halak has started the past three games in goal, winning one but stopping 80 of 87 shots (.920 save percentage). Coach Adam Oates is still trying to find the right linemates for forward Dustin Penner, who doesn't have a point in five games since being acquired from the Anaheim Ducks.

Who's hot: Burrows had a game-high six shots and five hits for the Canucks in addition to his first multi-goal effort since March 16, 2013. … Although it came up empty on its only two opportunities Tuesday, the Capitals' power play is clicking at a 34.6 percent success rate (9-for-26) in the past eight games.

Injury report: Vancouver was without forward Brad Richardson (undisclosed) on Wednesday, in addition to defenseman Andrew Alberts (concussion) and forward Daniel Sedin (hamstring), both of whom are on injured reserve. Kesler is out indefinitely. … Washington defenseman John Erskine (upper body) and forward Brooks Laich (groin) are day-to-day. Forwards Aaron Volpatti (upper body) and Mikhail Grabovski (ankle) are on injured reserve. Grabovski skated prior to practice Thursday.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

looks like we won't see kesler for a while, maybe not till next season, and maybe not even then.

only 14 games left i think, they are in a big hole, dallas Ahead about 3 pts, with 3 games in hand,
and phoenix just behind them, also with games in hand, those teams aren't going to lose all of their
games, and they would both have to go below canucks, for them to make playoffs.
and winnipeg is only one point behind canucks, also pushing hard to make
the playoffs.

anyway, play the games out and see what happens.

the leafs won two of the three games in california, but they had about 137 shots against them and 70 for,
so goalies were busy. i watched part of the game in l.a. last night, l.a. has trouble with fast teams,
and leafs have some speed. mason raymond has 19 goals now, too bad it took him all last summer without
anyone inviting him to any training camp until leafs gave him a 'try-out' just before training camp,
he would have figured out by then that he must do something with that game of his or he would be
out of the nhl, so he dug deep, found more drive and energy, and now he looks ok.

Well Canucks are pretty well evenly matched with their opponents today so it SHOULD be a "walk in the park", seeing as the West is a much stronger conference, of course there's one down side, Kesler's absence.

well they didn't win, but what i saw is encouraging. i have been whining and sniffling
for about a month or two that 'gillis' has to start doing his job, earning that big
salary. so it seems that is starting to happen.

nicholas jensson and shawn mathiass look very good, both big, both talented and they are
making a difference on the team.

they are part of the transission from the 'old' team to the 'new' team, and i like it, so
along with zack kassian and others who will show up in the next few months to 2 years, they
will eventually have a totally new look to carry them forward, as the older guys slowly
begin to come to the end of their time on the team.

next game against florida, i think it is on sunday.

Luongo faces former team as Panthers host CanucksSaturday, 03.15.2014 / 3:54 PMNHL.com Staff

PrintCANUCKS (30-29-10) AT PANTHERS (25-35-7)

TV: SNET-P, FS-F

Last 10: Vancouver 3-6-1; Florida 3-7-0

Season series: This is the second of two games between the Florida Panthers and Vancouver Canucks. The Panthers won 3-2 in a shootout on Nov. 19, with the lone goal in the tiebreaker coming from Jonathan Huberdeau.

Big story: Longtime Vancouver goaltender Roberto Luongo will face the Canucks for the first time since being traded to Florida on March 4.

"It's going to be weird. I was in that locker room a week-and-a-half ago, so it's the first time really I've been traded during the season," Luongo said. "I don't know how I'm going to feel but it's definitely going to feel weird."

Team Scope:

Canucks: Vancouver lost 4-3 to the Washington Capitals on Friday despite outshooting the Capitals 41-21. With every point being so critical to the Canucks' late-season Stanley Cup Playoff push in the Western Conference, captain Henrik Sedin said Sunday is a must-win.

The Canucks are 1-1-0 on a four-game road trip that ends with back-to-back games against the Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning.

"We knew going in that we at least needed a 3-1 road trip. We have to go down to Florida here and get these two games," Sedin said. "Come back and at least give ourselves a chance down the stretch."

Eddie Lack, who allowed four goals Friday, will face Luongo, who helped mentor him through his rookie season.

"Playing against Roberto in the first game is going to be a tough game," Lack said after the loss to Washington. "They've got an offensive team down there. And then we have a tough game against Tampa too, so it's going to be two very tough games. But if we play like we did tonight I think we can pull it off."

Panthers: Florida is coming off a 5-3 come-from-behind win against the New Jersey Devils on Friday in which the Panthers scored the game's final four goals. It ended a three-game losing streak for the Panthers, who begin a four-game western road trip after the game against the Canucks.

"For us all season, we've always had that push all season. [Friday] we were able to complete that. It's good," forward Brad Boyes said after the game. "Teams are fighting hard for a [playoff] spot, and for us we've got to continue to play well through injuries. It's a lot more fun winning, so we want to do that."

Who's hot: Panthers rookie forward Quinton Howden has a goal in each of his past two games. … Canucks forward Chris Higgins has four points in his past three games.

Injury report: Canucks defenseman Andrew Alberts (concussion) and forwards Mike Santorelli (shoulder) and Daniel Sedin (hamstring) are on injured reserve. Forward Ryan Kesler (knee) is out. Right wing Brad Richardson (undisclosed) did not play Friday. ... The Panthers are without forwards Tomas Kopecky (concussion) and Aleksander Barkov (knee), both of whom are on IR. Defenseman Erik Gudbranson (knee) and forward Jesse Winchester (lower body) are out. Left wing Sean Beregenheim (lower

lack and luongo, who da thunk it

lack said he's going to ask luongo for a goalie fight, wouldn't that be a hoot.
i'm sure when they are at center ice, stretching before game, they will have a big chat,
they became good friends, and i'm sure they will remain so, same as luongo and schneider,
as they played each other last night, i would have like to be a fly on the wall listening to
their pre game chat, lots of smart remarks about 'those' canucks, they could write a book together.

nope, playoffs aren't happening this season, but that doesn't stop me, i don't get bored or frustrated,
as i am looking allready to next season, and again, i like nicholas jensson and shawn matthias, they
are fresh new players, and definately with help the team, and burrows is back, looking like his old
self.
the game was pretty even, florida is coming on, a nice young team and they will get better too,
and its only fitting that luongo and lack ended up in a tie in reg. play.

nicholas jensson again shone when he scored the only shoot out goal and lack also shone by stopping
all comers for the florida.

next game tomorrow in tampa bay.

Yep, I was definitely impressed with Jensen, actually up until the 18 minute mark of the third period I thought that was probably their best game since New Years, but then Edler put it in doubt for 2 minutes. They are still alive as far as playoffs are concerned Talloola, but games against the Eastern conference don't do them a lot of good. They have to go head to head with a couple of contenders in the Western Conference. There's still 13 games, if they can win 11 they have a chance.

they are mathematically alive, big difference to 'actually having a realistic' chance, i'm not a
miracle believer, i am a realist.

i allready see the interest in the team fading on this board, too bad, however when they are done,
i will switch over to the NHL thread, as i will be following lots of playoff games.

if dallas and phoenix b oth dissapeared off of the face of this earth,
then wow, would they ever have a chance.

Just some thoughts.. if guys like Burrows had even had as little as 13 goals this year the Canucks would be in an entirely different situation. For too long so many guys just dropped off the face of the Earth for scoring. Jensen might have been a big help when others scored nothing forever.

I think you are referring to what we used to call "fair weather friends" -:)

Ed Jovanovski- there's a name I hadn't thought of for years, seeing him was a pleasant surprise, one of the better Canuck defencemen as I recall, but I'm damned if I can remember what year he left the Canucks and under what circumstances. Was it at the time they acquired Lu? About 2006?

jensen came to life 'not' long ago, he has had injuries, didn't show a lot of talent, but in the last
month or maybe two, he began to bloom, and played better and better, but yes, i think he could have
come up about 3 weeks ago, i think i mentioned it on this board, but gillis said they didn't want
to rush him out of there while he was starting to play so good, but in hindsight, they probably should have.

the season has fallen to quite a mess, key injuries, and mistakes as well, hopefully they will trade kesler
either at the draft or in the summer, and then they will have a couple more, one ready to go, with good
stats and a good prospect, that is what they need, some depth in young players.
if only they still had grabner, that was a disastrous trade, when gillis threw him in as the third
player in the ballard trade. we were so mad that day at him.

next year isn't that far away. did you hear the rumour about markus naslund possibly coming to join the
canuck organization. he has resigned his g.m. job for moto in sweden, and gillis said the other day he will
be talking to him soon.
burrows had two serious injuries, never did have enough time in games to
get into top condition, he isn't the greatest skater, needs lots of games
to get going, and now he is, its nice to see him looking like the
player we know he is.

canucks did not sign him and let him walk at the end of a contract, he then signed with phoenix
coyotes, 2005-06 sometime back then, then he was traded back to florida where he started his
career, about 3 or 4 years ago.

Thanks Talloola, I always liked him and thought he was a positive force on the team.

i always liked him too, he was an offensive defenseman, he took risks sometimes, but he had lots of
spark and fire, and kept the team upbeat.

he's had lots of injuries over the years, some while with the canucks, but he is back playing again,
and still loves the game.
