The 1% took all their money by crashing the econmomy and buying up all their wealth for pennies on the dollar. Has nothing to do with paternalism and everything to do with money and power. Their are hording all the wealth of the US and convincing people to think it has to do with multiculturalism, liberalism and lefty politics and the right is eating it up like barf from a drunk.
You make a lot of points. Everything is connected. There is a duality in all things. It's written into the fabric of universe and the nature of each human. Leftists and rightists each see part of the totality of reality and assume their understanding is complete when it is partial.
Leftists are just as much corporatists as are rightists. Look at Al Gore, Warren, Buffet, George Soros and a host of others who say one thing and live in an entirely different manner. Most wealthy people in California are leftists who live in gated communities, send their kids to private schools, and who's only contact with Latinos is as patrons. There just aren't that many wealthy rightists in California. Perhaps elsewhere your observations hold true, but not here.
What is true in California is that the high tax, high regulation, poor public school environment is producing a growing class of poor dependent people and a dying middle class. California is becoming like Latin America in terms of the class structure...rich and poor. And California has been run by leftists for a long time now.
The rich in California are in a political coalition with the dependent poor at the expense of the middle class. Rich environmentalists are keeping the dependent folks poor by preventing the economic development necessary for the creation of good paying jobs. The dependence of the poor on handouts is pure paternalism.
You should distinguish between the Chamber of Commerce right and middle class conservatives/libertarians. The Chamber of Commerce type rightists go along with the statism favored by the left. They aren't the enemies of the left. They will do business with leftists.
Middle class conservatives and libertarians are long past the point of frustration or being the subjects of propaganda. They are enraged. Their hearts are filled with fury. The outlier element of this group wants blood. Nothing short of blood will suffice. Leftists and Chamber of Commerce types just don't realize how much the middle class conservative/libertarian group hates them. This is a dangerous time in America.
I have many friends from many different backgrounds and cultures I am also sick
to death of changing the basic laws to accommodate every single group One can
have friends from any group and one can still have the view that everything does
not have to change. Having said that some things should change nothing is static.
Basic precepts of law should remain the same Here for example in Ontario they
were talking about sharia law that is the kind of change I am talking about.
Multiculturalism as a concept is fine as long as people are sharing cultures and
understanding each other when they start with changing actual articles in law that
is another matter.
Those two positions are compatible in my opinion. If you want to live here we have
laws and rules of the society. Some are going to change but the basic precepts of
law should remain the same for all with no special sidebars for anyone white, black
brown or other wise. That would include religion including the Christians, Jews and
Muslims and it should all start with paying taxes on religion period they make money
they pay tax like you and I.
Multiculturalism and national unity are incompatible. Multiculturalism depends on diversity. Unity depends on assimilation. Diversity and assimilation are opposites that can't coexist. In California assimilation is dead. The same is becoming true throughout America. The result is tribalism.
Canada has multiculturalism without unity except in a very superficial sense. Canadians like being nice. That's not enough to hold a country together when it experiences a prolonged period of suffering and tragedy.
