I like some of the older stuff. To me, the newer stuff is just Pop music from Nashville. Bubblegum music under a Stetson hat that's never been outside.

Country has many styles, even when you go back 40 years or longer you can hear it.

Yeah, most of the good ones are gone, we lost Ray Price recently, about the only ones left now are Little Jimmy ****ens and Willy Nelson.

during a local sports show two guys were chatting about "Harper Valley PTA" - the older guy said he loved this song while the younger guy never heard of it:

In fact he never heard of the movie or of Barbara Eden! I guess today's generation doesn't like the same stuff we did in the old days.

Jeanie was good but a one hit wonder I think.

After watching this video... My new mission in life is to become a beach bumb in Tofino BC.....

Kenny Chesney - Pirate Flag - YouTube

too bad the houses there are in the millions and id be paying one off till long after im dead..

I havent really paid attention to pop country in a long time. When I first saw that video I hadnt heard or seen anything from Kenny Chesney since about 2002. My first thought was "holy hell he has changed." I know he always had the beach song thing going for him but this is pretty "heavy" compared to say "No Shoes No Shirt No Problems" or the whole genre. This is more country/rock than most stuff that is usually put under the country/rock genre. Not a bad thing, just surprising.

I got into HBOs True Detective which started in January. Really liked the opening theme song which is more of a folk/country mix.

The music used in the show is pretty good overall too.

I don't have the energy to snoop around but who the hell gives a thumbs down in a music thread. Gimme a break.
