Most of the meat is left to rot. It;s the fur we're after, not the meat. There's no market for teh meat. There's some money in the blubber, but not enough to make it worthwhile to harvest. The *****es are collected though--Chineses aphrodesiac.

Much of the meat is left to rot....or be eaten by the other
indigenous critters (like the polar bears, etc...) as there
is currently a small market for the meat outside of the
locals, as the seals aren't slaughtered in a packing plant,
so govt inspectors are hard pressed to inspect each
animal.

There is a push to market the meat in a more wide
spread manner. There are links (to some very dark
sausages) if you'd like to see them.

Guess the idiots cannot figure out why the sharks have changed their feeding grounds.

.....or have they? Maybe it's a matter of more people play'n where
the sharks live...

Shark feeding grounds in Australia area have changed.
Overfishing has led to imbalances in the ecosystem and we are just beginning to see the substantial and negative results.Water temps can also cause changes.
Removing the top predator is having negative results all down the food chain.

Barbless hooks are mandated by law have been for decades now.

Only a tiny percentage of C&R'ed fish perish-something you wouldn't know because you've rarely left the double wide.

where I grew up you don't torture animals for fun. we eat what we catch. And I know I have gutted tons more salmon than you have.
