Some American commentators are characterizing this as a case of a fiscal conservative being attacked by left wing media. I think this is just a case of one man wrestling with his own demons.

Good insight- I can see the demons he is dealing with- and while in the public glare - who would not snap- very, very few.

I feel bad for him. I hope he makes it through this.

As for the "left wing media" attack? Yet more pulled-pork baloney by demented rightwing ideologues.

You keep saying that, and though I agree, he is his own worst enemy, the hounds have been at his heels since day one. While greater acts of political corruption go by without even a remotely equal amount of energy expended.

That just smells to me. It smacks of yellow journalism and partisan politics.

Ford is hounded by the media because he has refused to speak with them in a normal fashion.

It is the media's job to hold our government to account. When a leader ducks the media, they can't just sit back and do nothing.

People act as if the media ignores other issues like the senate or the gas plants, but both of those issues received tons of media coverage. They just had competent people managing the fallout. The offending senators were turfed without pay. McGunity resigned. It isn't over, but they are limiting the daily fodder they hand the media.

By contrast, Ford refuses to listen to any sound advice on how to deal with the media. When that plan fails, he just complains that the media is being mean to him, but he has nobody to blame but himself.

BTW, how can it be yellow journalism if pretty much everything they were reporting about him actually turned out to be true?

There's a figurative civil war going on down here. Both sides will use any ammunition available. No one is blameless.
Lets be honest. This is one man using all his power to insist that his personal problems are drag the whole city down with him.

Oh for crying out loud, are you actually suggesting that is vital, the public must know information as opposed to an over reach by the press to keep Ford's name in the headlines?
Lol, no. I just find it funny that it is The Sun.

You'd be among very few who actually believe that.

Ya, I know. But as you've admitted, you really don't know much more than what you've been spoon fed by headlines.
Come on, anyone in his shoes is going to be all over the media. Left or right. But some only see the world in left or right, so they would certainly believe the old conspiracy theory.

I think he's hounded by the media because of human nature to rubberneck a spectacular wreck.
That is certainly the main reason behind the international interest, but the dynamic between him and the media has been strained from the start.

The problems started when Ford got mad about a story that The Star ran during the election. He threatened legal action, but dropped that when he realized he couldn't win. He has subsequently used them as an excuse to avoid the media whenever he doesn't feel like answering questions, which happened to be most of the time.

Fun fact, The Star endorsed Ford when he was first elected to council.

Yeah, he was always kind of edgy, but he really kicked it up a notch the last couple of months. May have jumped the shark with bowling over the old lady though.

Just Kuwait my brothers, our once and future king shall draw Excalibur from the stone and spare us all from death and taxes.

Bowling over Pam McConnell was just the sort of the easiest way to sum up that council meeting in a few seconds. Rob and his brother acted like complete jackasses throughout that entire meeting.

When people complain about the media attention on him though, they are talking about the attention from the start of his time as mayor. It is very true that people didn't camp out in front of wherever it is the David Miller lives, but there was good reason. Reporters didn't have to do stuff like that in order to ask him questions.
