Advice for Rob Ford from Parliament Hill: ‘Seek help’ - Canada, Need to know - Macleans.ca

“I look forward to seeing Rob Ford get the help he obviously needs,” said Trudeau.

The Liberal leader was the alleged target of some Ford slurs on a video that Toronto police indicate shows the mayor sucking on a crack pipe.

Trudeau declined to compare his own admission that he smoked marijuana with Ford’s confession, even as at least one Tory MP did.

“I’m not going to politicize. I’m not going to look for a political advantage or defence in this. I have been honest and forthright in my own decisions, my political decisions,” Trudeau said.

Come off of your high horses. Mayor Ford failed his run for only two reasons: A) He didn't tow the party line of the mass media; and B) He's a real person who didn't follow the 'rules' of your typical career politician.

The media was out to get him from the very get go and it's true that politicians are probably the most morally-corrupt people on the face of this planet. I can honestly say that being around crackheads/smoking crack/driving without a seat belt/sexual assault is probably the very least of what most of our politicians take part in.

If anybody here had a clue about city life in Toronto, Ottawa or Montréal, you'd all know that they don't smoke crack (but rather sniff cocaine on your dime), they don't hang around crackheads (but rather hang around millionaires with tons of women/men and lots of coke) and have nothing to do with common street hookers (but rather have the highest-paid 'escorts').

Don't tell me that a well-paid politician will eat a Big Mac when he's being offered a grass-fed Filet Mignon at the same time. Nobody could be so stupid to believe that.

Yes, obviously Rob Ford is the real victim here. The police were after him. The media were after him. Baloney. Rob ford has nobody to blame but Rob Ford for the position he's in.

We still got the charges extorion charges against his driver and the video to look forward to!

I didn't say any of that. Don't put words into my mouth.

If only everybody was so vigilant about politicians. If everybody, including the media, really cared about the actions of politicians like you do, we'd live in a utopia. Harper, Layton, Chrétien, Martin, Mulroney... Every one of them lying crooks.

If only public justice was served evenly and not on the terms of the Toronto Star, CBC or [insert major Canadian conglomerate here]. I'm pretty sure that Ford would be lower on the list than most politicians whose names have been uttered on these forums since they were opened 11 years ago.

Ummm...
Despite this email being sent from a City of Toronto email address, it cannot be verified by City Hall. This is a direct result of Amin’s promotion to spokesman and communications director that occurred on May 27th. On May 18th, when this email appears to have been sent, he was still working for Councillor Doug Ford, Rob Ford's brother. Here’s what the City of Toronto says about Amin’s emails that were sent before his promotion:
“With respect to Amin Massoudi's email records please be advised that all records prior to Mr. Massoudi commencing work in the mayor's office on May 27th are considered Councilor [Doug] Ford's personal constituency records. These records are not in the City's custody or control. Thus access cannot be provided."

Doug Ford did not respond to VICE’s request for comment.
Unfortunately, verifying this one email through City Hall is the only thing that would prove the transcript's legitimacy beyond a shadow of a doubt. (VICE believes the transcript to be real.) The hacker says he doesn't have the long-form email headers from this conversation because he destroyed the account before deciding to disclose the information to VICE.

How convenient.

Just like the Good Wife the other night.

Hooray for TV!

I'm not sure that "blame" has any place here. People fail for various reasons. If there is any blame it belongs to the people who peddle this sh*t to satisfy their own greed. Is Ford any worse of a person than another Ford........................Betty?

I don't really know who Betty Ford was, other than it's the name of a famous rehab clinic What I am saying is that this notion that he's only in this pickle because of the mean police and media is stupid. He is in the situation he's in because he smoked crack. Maybe he just tried, maybe he's an advice, I don't know. But it Ain't the fault of the CBC or the police.

The wife of U.S. president Gerald R. Ford, who suffered from an alcohol dependency.

You should read this Andem..

Rob Ford was never 'Rob Ford'

Rob Ford was always a nice idea: a fiscal hawk who was going to roll up his sleeves and straighten out the city hall of Canada’s biggest city. He would re-invent civic government and watch every dollar, apply common-sense private-sector practices, and shrink Toronto’s administration down to just the right size.

In practice, Rob Ford has done none of this since his election in 2010, but his fervent supporters were so enamored with the idea of Rob Ford that they became complicit in covering up for real-life-Rob-Ford’s failures.

Now that Toronto’s Chief of Police has confirmed that the mayor does indeed appear in a 2013 cell-phone video appearing to smoke crack cocaine, Ford’s defenders are digging trenches. His lawyer says: You can’t prove it’s crack. A woman called my radio station to say that as a sculptor she could understand how someone could fashion a plastic mask to look like the mayor. Many argue they would rather a crack-smoking mayor than any of his sober rivals.

It’s understandable that some conservatives would do what they can to protect Rob Ford. This is a city that votes left. That a right-wing-seeming populist was elected in 2010 was historic. And the ardency of his cult following goes beyond his place on the political spectrum. He’s a Hugo Chavez character: a satisfyingly big finger poked in the eye of the traditional power holders.

But the flesh-and-blood Rob Ford never was the Rob Ford of the conservative imagination.

National Post: Rob Ford never was ‘Rob Ford’
