I don't recall saying (or thinking) that, as I don't know the statistics!

D-Day: The allied invasion of Normandy - Canada - CBC News

The stats are that we had three times as many troops as you taking part and almost as many as the Yanks.

The Canadians weren't fighting on their own. They were Britain's poodle fighting as part of the British Empire.

So, on D-Day, the British Empire dwarved the USA in terms of troops.

As far as I can recall, the French surrendered in 1940 and their government ran to Britain and set up shop there ....

You're incorrect. The French surrendered and their government continued at Viche. DeGaulle was one of history's unfortunate people. He came to Quebec in the 1960's and told Quebecers "Viva Quebec libre", and got kicked out of Canada. It was years before French and Canada resumed diplomatic relations.

Actually you're right- the French would have been f**Ked if it wasn't for Churchill and Canadian forces!

All the western allies owe an unpayable debt to Russia. Russia beat Germany. We helped,

Although you'd never know it if you've ever watched Saving Private Ryan. In typical Hollywood style, that movie has you thinking it was just Americans saving everybody.

The Yanks are laughable.

You need the full facts, Canada's population during WW II was eleven million. In W.W. I Duncan B.C. had the highest ratio of troops in the British Commonwealth.

All your history comes from tv I see.

There's no need to talk like that. You'd have lost the Battle of the Atlantic without us as an ally, and losing that battle was the one thing that Churchill said really worried him. It was crucial to everything else.

LOL. All we ever wanted to know about Duncan but were afraid to ask. Guess where JLM's from?

I've been giving you the benefit of the doubt for the past month, but now I can see you really are an ignorant S.O.B. (I lived near Duncan for three years back in the 50s)

So you see, you're from Duncan just like I said. Sad that you should take my comment as an insult - it wasn't meant as one. You're too self absorbed.

Seems Blackleaf's picking a fight with everyone in sight! Have a cuppa old chappy, everything'll feel better after that.

Unlike many people, I just say it as it is. There's no piss-farting about with me.

I've had this discussion many times before that the USA was not needed to win WWII. The Americans have too high an opinion of themselves and their second-rate, trigger-happy, gung-ho soldiers and the truth of the matter is that two huge and powerful empires - the USSR and Britain - did not need America's smaller armed forces to win WWII.

Both Britain and the USSR were quite capable of defeating Germany without American intervention, and would have done so had the US stayed out of the war.

Many historians are in agreement on that matter. If it hurts American pride, tough. America wasn't a large empire like Britain back in WWII.

The Western Lacrosse Association? I'm sure Canadian lacrosse players did their share.

Without Canada the turd in the Atlantic punchbowl (UK) would have starved to death by 1941.
By 1943, Britain needed more and more food as the U-boat campaign hit hard. By the end of the year, Britain was less dependent on overseas supplies as the work done by the WLA was sufficient to keep Britain in food.

As stated, without Canada you would have starved to death by 1941.
