Nah, If anything can destroy America it will be debt and greed and the vast majority of us are guilty of that. I think the leaders in all walks of life, especially corporate life have to practice restraint and do belt tightening. If EVERYONE was to do it for a year you would see quite a difference.

It's only a matter of time until the US dollar loses its reserve currency status. Then living standards in the US will sharply decline, and Americans will be at each other's throats struggling over a shrinking economic pie.
Hey. We the people reopened Rushmore this week. We aim on opening our other national parks too. Alas! The people awaken and realize we don't need no stinkin government. Soon we will get the pipeline. See. As it is America is split 50/50. Fifty percent work. The other 50% don't work or spend their lives trying to figure out how to get a government check so they don't have to work. The libs have given "charity" a new definition. So. Now we wait and see who wins. The industrious or the sloth filled blood sucking leeches. I don't want any sass about how I don't care for the poor. The truly poor - we Americans help and gladly do so. I'll pay for someone's meal any day of the week. However, I'm not going to pay for some loafers bag of chips as they sit on their sofa watching their TV with their government subsidized cell phone. Discernment is what is needed. It is all but gone from the face of the earth.

I was thinking of other things besides making electricity. But the greenies don't like hydro much either. Funny how they like the dangerous and expensive stuff though.
That is how things were done in the old days. Want a park? volunteer. Today people expect some rich government employee to do every last thing for them.

You are correct! Looks like the wizards in our Senate just came to an agreement. So, I suppose now the sky isn't falling and we can continue spending our way into oblivion.
While the US senate is voting on the funding proposal it has to then be voted on by the House of Representatives, who have a Republican majority
I think there will be plenty of Repubs to vote with the dems in the house. It should pass. And once it does, it will change nothing, and not improve anything. Government in action - at its best.

I was up in Salem Massachusetts this weekend (witches, Halloween, October etc.) and the NPS building was closed. No big deal...downtown Salem was still packed and carried on as usual.
