The number of those that can list provinces and capitals is atrocious.
Then ask them to place each on a map. Worse.
I can name and place them all. I can probably also name more states and their capitals and place them on a map than most Americans. Probably name more presidents too.

What is the politically correct term for 1/2 black 1/2 white by the way?
Usually "mixed-race."
which 1/2 is more important ?
Well, in Virginia "one drop of black blood" made you black. It was much the same in all the south, and much of the north, during American apartheid.
And what does ones race or creed have to do with any thing anyways I was of the understanding that issue was behind us
since King's I Have A Dream speech and the first 50/50 was elected to the white house.
That'd be nice.
I believe you are fixated on a dead horse.

America is too class oriented a culture for that to happen. There is an interesting book called "The Civil Aspects of the US Civil War" that devotes a chapter to the subject. It was crucial for the ante bellum southern aristocracy to maintain a two-class society beneath them in order to assert their social leadership. Beneath them was what were called the poor whites. However in order for the poor whites to maintain their place, there had to be a sub-strata for them to look down on. That was blacks. The system didn't end with the defeat in the Civil War. It became more important because the old aristocracy had been defeated. The old leadership needed something to buttress its position and the old pecking order worked naturally. It was a conscious, deliberately maintained and managed multi-class system. The old landed aristocracy has since been replaced by successive cultural changes, but the system still exists.

Sounds like modern partisanship to me.... the need to have someone to look down on in order to feel good about one's own life and viewpoint.

Give me one incident where Obama "negotiated" anything. He hasn't. It's his way or the highway. The problem with Obama Care is that its supposed to cover those who do not have health care. It doesn't and that's one of the problems. In fact, if/when it goes through there will be more people without healthcare than ever before because of the way the Dems want it implemented. Most of the legislative people haven't even read the 2000 plus pages of the health act so they don't even know what it contains!! And, having the IRS manage healthcare??? How absurd is that?? Scarey, fer sure.

So a bit of the government is closed - not all - and it looks like it might be a good thing in the end - saves some "sheckles".

Has anyone noticed that people being interviewed on TV have not noticed any difference in their day to day lives? I was actually quite surprised considering the coverage on pro Obama TV. Guess "The View" et al don't have large audiences lol!

The only ones affected seem to be tourists because they've closed down some touristy sites, some unnecessarily I might add. I suppose that is on purpose....

He's almost as bad as Harper that way, would you say?

And how should he be, with an opposition so unprofessional they have defiantly stated they will hurt anybody and obstruct anything because they resent Obama so fiercely?

Google the number of blacks still lynched in the US. Did you know that lynching is a crime in the US that can get you four years in jail. LMAO!
So only racism against blacks counts. Try going for a beer in Harlem or other ghettos, when you end up spitting out your teeth is that just reverse discrimination .. How about sunni and ****e muslim infighting is that racism or simply a political misunderstanding.
Have you ever talked with Japanese people about their feelings toward Chinese is it racism or something different? You see Tober only white on black the world is a big place and America is only part of it.
And my favorite the caste system in India racism or religious misunderstanding.

"My" man? LMAO. I'm Canadian.

He is still your man

You lose. The Queen is our head of State. The Gov Gen is just her stand in.

I don't think I ever suggested otherwise I just couldn't think of present gov gen's name.

The governor general is a purely political appointment.
No kidding, really

You are mis-editing and mis-quoting. US ethics? You might be surprised, I'm not.

Yep, makes me ashamed.

We had to know the provinces and their capital cities in grade 2, and be able to name them and map them. Our grade 2 teacher was a bit of a drill sergeant, which is why I can still do it

Not much of a whole hell of a lot else, but, by Jesus, Provinces and Capitals, yep.

They had that question on a CANADIAN QUIZ SHOW not too long ago, and no one could do it.

Now grade 3; that's a whole nother story............long division...........I dropped out.................:-(

I think it's fair to say that applies to the Republicans too. Both parties are playing Russian roulette if you ask me. There's no tellling who will ultimately take the fall, politically, for this. Right now the Republicans are incurring the wrath of most, but that could change.

Could you possibly mean. . .

The South politician preaches to the poor white man
"You've got more than the blacks, don't complain
You're better than them
You were born with white skin" they explain
And the Negro's name
Is used, it is plain
For the politician's gain
As he rises to fame
And the poor white remains
On the caboose of the train
But he ain't to blame
He's only a pawn in their game

I didn't say it was fair or accurate. Racism never is.

The Virginia Racial Integrity Act of 1924 codified what is commonly known as the "one drop of black blood" rule. It also specified how "pure white" ancestry was to be established.

Here's the act, not that I expect you to understand it.

Just yanking your chain ;-)

It has nothing to do with his passport. That is just the narrow Yank position attempting to deflect. It is the US national character. They spend their lifetimes broadcasting their version of "America" to the world, then become upset when we recognize the message and ignore the spin.

Its important to see what Obama -care 'really is ' You still have to 'purchase insurance' the difference is there is an 'insurance pool' that can't be 'denied coverage'
Its not Canada's Medicare or the NHS.

And no one on the Dem side is wiling to see problems - issues - Any program of that size has a negative impact in areas not considered.
