A prayer for Saskatoon...

"...and please tell us why you made a city that sounds like "Red China" the capital of our province?"
Amen

Rub a dub dub,
thanks for the grub.

Non denominational, non-religious. Even an atheist could get on board with that.
Not this one. Who's being thanked? But while I wouldn't get on board with it, I wouldn't object to it either, that's not a fight worth having, it's about as smart as objecting to the religious content of funeral services and wedding ceremonies. I'd just tune it out if I were present and let it go by, doesn't affect me at all unless I choose to let it, and I wouldn't. It's not having that choice that raises my ire. That guy needs some perspective on which hills are worth fighting to hold and which aren't.

The people who grew the food, the people who transported it, the people who purchased it, who prepared it, etc.

Between Government subsidized fertilizer and GMO only crops it is no wonder they have a common prayer. I'm sure there is a common prayer during a flood or famine also. The big and only important question is do unreasonable demands go unanswered.

I think that it would be a hoot for all interest groups and cultural organizations to rattle their sabres over this.

Start with the Wiccans demanding recognition of their practices in the muni events... Next, the Skinheads can demand representation, followed by women's groups, vegans, each & every FN tribe.... The list could be endless.

On the bright side, at least when they open the doors of muni gvt and initiate the days proceedings, there will be no time for politics as the opening comments/blessing/declaration, etc will have taken the whole day

Make it a rule for sporting events also, there are more of them that watch any event than there are people in Sask.
Who cares if 101 methods no exist to set yourself to be disappointed in prayer, that is only an increase from 100.

How do atheists ask for a season of low fuel prices, last time I tried that the truck broke a part that cost more than the fuel would have and it took 6 months to find and install it.
Somethings are best left to the boots on the ground, some not so little things either, like Atheist wars for possession of material good, the mark of any good atheist, so that would mean your contribution would be all wars and deeds that resulted in you being in possession of too many material goods if you have any surplus at the end of a year. The Vatican lakeys may swing a religious themke but posession of a bank shows they are as athiest as any nation, and that also takes men in the flesh. The same dog and pony show that has been going on since they started to **** (on the people) and cover it up. (that it is as easy as blaming the other one is not a credit to the 'masses' who are showing they do need somebody to hold their hand all through life. A baby learning to walk will reach for the parents hand when learning to cross the street, not long after that it is the parent doing the reaching meaning the insecurity lies with the parent. It doesn't even matter how you look at it when it happens after the child is about 6 to 8 yrs old. He should be able to do it alone, and do it so he steps off the curb, then runs across the road, stops at the curb and steps up and then walks the rest of the way (like home from school). It is mom or dad that is emotionally having trouble cutting the apron strings, after 6 a child's new best friend is somebody their own age, the parent gets that relationship from 0-6 yrs and by the time the child is 20 the parents should be comfortable with the child not living in the same house (in most instances, sometimes family units stay together from birth till death at old age.

Would a person in old age reach out when they needed help (crossing the same street) or would they do the independent thing as long as it was safe? The other side of the coin is a slightly different version?

Most cities are run on a wing and a prayer anyway. Having to pray at a public event just shows the lack of self confidence of those putting the show on.

O Saskatoon - our city of bridges...
We pray to the gods to save us from witches!
May Thor with his goats sail down from the sky!
Let's celebrate his godliness with saskatoon pie!
- an interdenominational prayer for all occasions

Get rid of the prayer. Or make it short--a couple of lines. I have to go to these first nations ceremonies sometimes where they're dancing around for ten minutes. Painful!

Seeing as its non-denominational rather than just a one religion thing I don't see a problem with it. When I was in Catholic school I stood but didnt cross myself or mouth/say the words to the prayers. It was easier that way.

You think so? I think perhaps you omitted the last line of that little grace. I've always heard it as "Rub a dub dub, thanks for the grub, Yay God."

Father, Son and Holy Ghost, first one there gets the most.

Followed by the silent one, 'Feets don't fail me now.'
