I'm not so sure about that, Ger.......... a few years ago hauling the 5th wheel, we were thinking of camping near Banff and missed the turnoff and wound up camping at some lake, I think it was Minny Wanker! .

Jasper is good as long as you don't have to buy anything.

We cheated, a friend worked on the rail line and lived there. Back in the day if you lived there you got a "special price" on nearly everything ;-)

I'll assume you really don't want me to reply to this.

your loss.

and btw, the signage on the highway for the 2 Banf exits are more than adequate. Only a blind retard would have missed it.
or blitzed. He's from the coast, 1+1

If you're going to take a break and see something in the Parks the best place is Takakkaw falls in Yoho.

Yes you need a park permit to visit the townsite or stray off the main highway.
We don't like paying for maintenance of our park system so it a fee for users.
Secondly the price you pay is a yearly fee and it applies to other parks as well
I understand.
If you miss going into Banff I am confused its always been well marked as far
I am concerned. But some folks can miss it i guess. And yes you have to pay
to see your own wilderness someone has to clean up after us and manage the
park that costs money. We should be proud to pay our way if we are going to
use the facilities

Yep, certainly nothing wrong with the concept "user pays".

How much do the many businesses pay the feds? Enough to run the parks and lots left over. The fee was a cash grab.

I'm not so sure, the cost to run a National Park could be $million or more per year!
They make the most money in winter when it's skiing season. Keeping roads open in winter costs far more than firewood in the summer.

That is if you opt for the annual pass. We do as we camp in Jasper all the time and ski at Marmot basin all winter. It is $135 for the whole family in almost all national parks. You can also get a 1 day pass for $8 and I believe there are 3 day and 7 day passes.

There are actually 3 ways in, 2 main roads and a 3rd just east of town through the industrial area.

I despise having to pay to use a park I own. We pay enough taxes for them to fund the parks if they would just stop wasting the money. I can certainly see charging foreign tourists for entry but we Canadians are the owners. It's like being charged a fee to use your own back yard IMO and it is just wrong.

Marmot Basin is privately owned. I don't know if they pay a tribute to the parks for operating within it. We have had many discussions with management there about having to pay for a park pass on top of the $75 for a lift ticket. It just doesn't seem right to me. Either we shouldn't require a pass to use a private facility or the lift ticket should include the pass. Having to pay both is just gouging.
