I understood he fought/commanded 13 or so major battles and lost all except for Yorktown???

I'd have to say that is not so... the Battle of Trenton he won. Assunpink Creek is another.

But, in the end, you still can't claim USA real estate.

Apart from the 13 original colonies, of course, which are still rightfully ours.

WHo exactly are you calling the Irish? The people currently in Ireland? the Celts? or the people that were there even before the Celts?

The Irish invaded and colonised Britain way before the British did the same in Ireland. Where do you think the Scots come from? Irish raiders and settlers caused so much trouble along the British coast when the Romans were in Britain that the Romans called those Irish raiders "Scotti", meaning "pirates/raiders". Eventually these Scotti settled along the jagged coastline and islands of northwest Britain. After several centuries they unified with the Picts to their north and east and formed a kingdom which they gave their name to - Scotland.

When the Queen visited Ireland a few years ago an Irish historian on Sky News commented that its "an inconvenient truth" for Irish republicans and nationalists that the Irish invaded and settled Britain long before the British invaded and settled Ireland.

Just don't mention it to those kahki-wearing, balaclava-clad Irish republican gorillas, though, or they might plant a bomb to the underside of your car.

But whether the USA is a republic or not, the British kicked their asses in the War of 1812. All of our objectives and aims were met but not one of theirs was.

You got your butts kicked... topped off with a huge beating in New Orleans that the Brits don't like to count because someone didn't get the word.

The kingdom was called '
Albion'.

However,to get back on topic, the NA Sots came form the'highland clearances..."

Which brings us back to 'Scottish land ownership'
BL, do YOU EVER STICK TO THE TOPIC?

You got your butts kicked... topped off with a huge beating in New Orleans that the Brits don't like to count because someone didn't get the word.

The word was 'bring Scottish wildcats or your invasion is doomed'

You only "won" because the American colonies were relatively unimportant to Great Britain and she had more pressing concerns than fighting a bunch of farmers with pitchforks - namely Old Boney's nefarious activities in Europe. So we just gave you your independence so we could deal with the more important matter of defeating Boney.

Why would what Napoleon was doing matter? The American Revolution ended five years before the French Revolution began and well over a decade before Napoleon took power. You cant say Britain lost because they were too busy fighting a war that hadnt yet started.

Actually, as Alf has demonstrated repeatedly, he can not only say it, he can believe it with every atom of his receding chin and lousy teeth.

Yes he can and he has!

That 6 year old Corsican had England up in arms during the American Revolution!

The Queen might be the Head of State of Australia, but no way does she or Britain own it.

As long as Scotland finally rids themselves of England, that is the great step to be taken.
After all these years with the ballot and the stroke of a pen, the occupation just might end.
Our family is made up of a discounted lot. We are of the Highlanders in Scotland and the
Republic of Ireland. Both sides still have little regard for the English. Let us hope Scotland
stands up for itself.

She owns all of the 16 countries of which she's Head of State, including Australia. I've already explained that.

As long as Scotland finally rids themselves of England

It's the English who are looking to get rid of the Scots. Scotland - perpetually Communist and a land of workshy subsidy junkies - is a drain on the UK economy, taking more from the Treasury than it puts in. England will be better off getting rid of Scotland. In fact, polls consistently show that a higher percentage of the English are in favour of Scottish independence than the Scots, who are mainly against independence.

George Washington lost every battle he fought, except the last one.

That proves what a bad military leader he was.

No she doesn't. That is why I insisted you learn what "the Crown" is.

I know full well what the Crown is. The Crown is merely another way of referring to the monarchy. Canada is owned by the Crown - the monarchy.

Let's hope I don't read another comment, flying in the face of the overwhelming facts, saying that the Queen does not own Canada, Australia or any of the 14 other countries of which she is Sovereign.

The Queen is the sole legal owner of all the land of Canada. The private “holdership” factor, based on freehold tenure of housing is 67%. For all other land it is less than 9.7%, with over 90% of Canadian land remaining as Crown leasehold, administered for the Crown by various agencies and departments of the government of Canada.

Who owns the world?

Elizabeth II's position is a relic of the last and largest land empire in history, the British Empire, rumours of whose demise would appear to be somewhat premature based on her position and possessions. When the Queen's territories are added together, the Russian Federation ceases to be the largest single political entity on earth.

The world's primary feudal landowner is Queen Elizabeth II. She is head of a Commonwealth of 54 countries in which a quarter of the world's population lives, and legal owner of about 6.6 billion acres of land, ONE-SIXTH of the earth's land surface. Her position is a relic of the last and largest land empire in history, rumours of whose demise would appear to be somewhat premature based on her position and possessions. But her power is real, or at least legally real, and it derives from a tradition based on a specific and unbalanced relationship between rulers and the ruled.

1066 and all that

Feudalism begins with the idea that all land and people are the possession of the gods, with the gods devolving that ownership to a human representative. The divine origin of land ownership became all-pervasive in classical times and took its most brutal general form in the deified Roman emperors, from whom all land in the empire was held. The Romans brought the idea of imperial ownership to Britain in 43AD.

Following the Norman Conquest in 1066, the last time Britain was invaded, the idea of a singular, absolute, monarchical owner of land became entrenched in constitution and practice. With the expansion of the British empire, this version of the feudal system was imposed on about a quarter of the world.

Today we have two kinds of feudal state: the inherited state, usually with a monarch at its head, such as the UK; and the state that claims ownership of all land and is feudal in its conception and often totalitarian, such as China. But the core surviving feudal structure in the modern world is inherited, transnational and covers many countries. It has no formal name. It is, in fact, the British crown and its wearer, Elizabeth II. Her legal title runs thus: "by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith".

This constitutional statement includes some vast territories where the Queen is quite separately the sovereign head of state and legal owner. First among these is Australia, which, if its Antarctic territories are included, is the second-largest country on earth. And the Queen, in effect, owns it. She also owns the third-largest country, Canada.

When the Queen's territories are added together, the Russian Federation ceases to be the largest single political entity on earth. Like the Queen's realms, the Russian Federation is dramatically underpopulated and immensely rich in mineral wealth of all kinds.

Together, the Queen's realms have a depth of international political defence unlike any other alliance. They are combined together in the Commonwealth, the largest single bloc in the United Nations, the largest single combination of nations outside the UN, and they are all headed by the same diminutive octogenarian. If the Queen could convert her landholdings into cash, she would not only be the richest individual on earth, but also the richest person who has ever lived. Another way she could achieve that, however, is by turning upside down the 13 tax havens of which she is both ruler and owner and shaking the cash out of them.

I'm a shareholder in the Canadian assets of "The Crown" which is a company operating out of the City of London. Your share is in the assets of the UK.
