I'm unfamiliar with the realities of affirmative action in the US.... have you got links as to how it's applied and where?
As I said above, in the Federal government and some lower levels of government, there are set-asides in contracting for certain classes of businesses.

Other than that, about the only piece of "affirmative action" still allowed in employment is to require outrach to minority communities in hiring. That means things like seeking applicants from minority and underrepresented communities. Note that I said "applicants." It is specifically illegal to hire someone or refuse to hire someone because of her race, whatever that race may be.

Odd that you made yourself a target of my post since it was directed yet again at the maddening media crowds and some of their more ardent regurgitation cheerleaders. If you're one, nothing I can do about that. I don't keep score.
.

You might want to consider that it doesn't read that way. You tend to just make statements that seem to apply to anyone who sees the issue from a stance aside from your own.

Just about everywhere...

But here is Massachusetts...

Massachusetts Affirmative Action laws & HR compliance analysis

A little snippet...

State agencies. By executive order, signed by Governor Deval Patrick, all state agencies must develop and implement affirmative action and diversity plans to identify and eliminate discriminatory barriers in the workplace; remedy the effects of past discriminatory practices; identify, recruit, hire, develop, promote, and retain employees who are members of underrepresented groups; and ensure diversity and equal opportunity in all facets, terms, and conditions of state employment. The plans must include specific goals and timetables for achievement, comply with all applicable state and federal laws, and be updated at least every 2 years. The ...

Check this out from UMASS Boston...

Self Identification Form

Lets go to Medford Massachusetts shall we?

http://www.medford.org/pages/medfordma_diversity/affection

Just a snippet...

MINORITY & WOMEN OWNED BUSINESSES

The City of Medford encourages State Office of Minority and Women BusinessAssistance (SOMWBA) certifiedbusinesses to forward information about their company (in duplicate) to the Diversity Office. The objective of the City of Medford’s MBE/WBE Program is to ensure participation by MBE’s/WBE’s in City contracts for goods, services and supplies. This objective is based in part on the availability of MBE’s/WBE’s with expertise in these areas. The Diversity Director, who also serves as the Contract Compliance Officer, will work with the Purchasing Agent to identify the needs of the various City Departments for supplies, goods, and services, and to match them with available MBE’s/WBE’s.

Now I wonder why this is even here?

Well, here's a reality. The Sooper Seekrit Quota System is not only sooper seekrit, it's also remarkably ineffective. Black unemployment in the U.S. is over twice white unemployment, and unemployment of black college graduates is twice that of white college graduates.

You would think that if blacks are benefitting from some quota system, black unemployment would be lower than white unemployment.

Dream on. You have identified nothing that is a quota or a preference.

Post #523 tells everyone you are once again wrong.

Tough break T-Bones! Stick to spell checking and you might catch me here and there!

Here I'll make it bigger for you ...

Yep, "ensure equal opportunity." That means everybody has the same opportunities, regardless of race.

Eagle's posts, and Wiki's articles on affirmative action, seem to imply that while there isn't a 'quota', that plenty of affirmative action takes place to increase employment for minorities, women, and the disenfranchised.

Funny. Typical religious nuttery.
I heard he was part negroid, part caucasian. Definitely Hispanic, but Hispanics can be any phenotype; Negroid, Australasian, Mongoloid, Caucasian. Hispanic isn't a "race".

They're singling out the jury now. Not GZ.

It's simple...the 6 women were racist. See?
