Everyone seems to think this incident was all about race..

O.K. Do you think this would have played out differently if Trayvon Martin was White, Asian or even Hispanic?

Zimmerman, made a bad decision.. not one based on race.

Whenever the race card is played in America justice goes out the window (both ways, remember OJ). There is an industry of race opinion in America.. people in African American studies programs in universities.. in the pulpits of predominately black Baptist Churches.. on red neck 'conservative' talk radio.

People earn their livings by stirring up racial animosities.. and everybody retreats into the 'hoods of conventional opinion and prejudice (again on Both sides). In truth this really did have nothing to do with Race.

This whole thing could have been prevented with the elimination of the ludicrous 'stand your ground' laws.. which have locked in gun ownership as a 'right' and eliminated ALL criminal responsibility for using them in a such a way as to minimize carnage.

This is all about one moron with a gun.. and a sense of entitlement to use it as he saw fit.

I calculate Martin's race went into Zimmerman's decision to confront him, as did his age, his sex, and his dress.

Zimmerman seems to be a not-too-bright wannabe. I think his lawyers were wise to keep him off the stand.

In that case the 'immunity' provisions from civil prosecution also do not apply. But his lawyers have already said they intend to invoke it if sued.

A lawsuit is inevitable. If immunity is granted it will be appealed on Constitutional grounds.. which means it will likely end up in the Supreme Court. In any case Zimmerman's going to be in court for the next 5 years.. presumably on the Gun Lobby's dime.

I expect the Justice Department might press Civil Rights charges on him.. based on the 40 some odd calls he made to police prior to the incident.. ALL apparently of young black males.. doing nothing but walking home. I've got some problems with 'hate' crimes in principle.. but with the mammoth injustice perpetrated on Trayvon.. its looks good on George.

This is a standard defense tactic. It prevents the prosecution from asking the acused their pointed questions in cross-examination. Usually this prevention makes up for anything that would be gained by the defendant's testimony.

That does not change the FACT that the Defense used a self-defense argument and not "Stand your Ground".
