No, most have mods to control that..

But Interesting point.. who says you can't insult someone on Facebook? Twitter? Etc?

It's the Internet, a facade hiding who or what people really are..

Most forums of this style have 'mods' and other arbitrary oppressive controls. Mods tend to be reasonable people that just tend to keep the order but the automatic controls are absurd. You can say a lot more on the most conservative American network in prime time than you can on this 'palace for the righteous and proper'. You can't even use the medical terms for genitalia. Cock. *****. See what I mean.
How prudish and hypocritical is that?

You can't say **** Cheney, but you can say pecker head, douche bag and pink taco. I think that is pretty liberating. You just need to adjust your vocabulary slightly.

I think both mediums have a place and very different applications. Although, I don't go on FB to announce what I'm eating. I use it much as I use Twitter; mostly as a tool of self-promotion, but also to interact and share with people.

Cock Cheney. Ya, that sounds good. ;)

And it is much more fitting than d*ck.

There is definitely something to be said on the fact a lot of forums are nothing but a big circle-jerk and dissenting opinions are met with ridicule, animosity or even bans. A couple of years ago I joined Rabble.ca thinking it was a political-based discussion board. What I found was that any opinion that wasn't pro-union and extreme lefty was met with complete derision and the members refused to actually discuss the topic. They would just pat each other on the back and promote far left views. I was actually called 'extremely sexist' and got banned for posting the line "hockey without hitting is just figure-skating with sticks". I never bothered to go back because their membership was so blatantly not into debate or discussion unless you agreed with them.

Are forums dying out because of social networking?

Every year it seems like less and less forums are active communities any more. Why do you guys think forums are dying? Or are they?

I thought that all forums were social networks?

I disagree. In a conversation, face to face much of what is said here, if it was a discussion at a house party, BBQ or bar would lead to lost friendships and fist fights.

Except that many of those people you wouldn't invite to a BBQ unless they were relatives and your wife insisted.

And it is much more fitting than d*ck.

And now you know why lefties are called rabble.

Forums are too confrontational. I can see a clear advantage to joining a club of minecrafters or someother interest. Although the topic is less related to current events, it can be a sight bit more friendly and creative than the culture of name calling that can evolve in places like forums.
