Some things are meant to be mocked, The OP to start with and the whole stupid thread in general......So pardon me if I don't give sh*te when the pseudo intellectuals or motormouths are insulted by my remarks, I'm definitely not PC and never claimed to be!!
It is not a just a matter of insult or mockery. With discussion people exchange ideas, we can learn something from each other. It changes us, it makes us better.

I do not agree with pete' s stance or CM in this thread but in others I do. When I disagree, it doesn't mean I can't learn from them. I learn something new in here every day, that is why I am here, to stretch my brain, engage with others coming from a different perspective, change the way I think, and thus live. I come to learn something. and sometimes put my blood pressure up...lol

If the OP is stupid demonstrate how.

It is not about being PC it is about respect for various opinionsand contribution to the community which you often do.

Good point, it depends on "whose ox you are trying to gore"! There are two (or more) concepts here. One concept is the wellbeing of the fetus supersedes the convenience of the hostess and one says the convenience of the hostess supersedes the well being of the fetus. I can only speak from my point of view which is the former.

I might add this thread has had much response, some of it totally opposed to how I think, believe and feel none the less, we are all drawn to it just because of our differences.

9 times out of 10, when somebody says something is "stupid" or mock it, it means it's over their heads and they make those types of statements so they can feel better about their lack of intelligence and self esteem.

If he did try to learn something, he may just feel better about himself instead of obsessing on the left/right paradigm that he blames for his conditions.

I think you hit the nail on the head, Sal. Debating is about putting opinions out there, studying others' opinions and doing a little adjusting or not until we come up with something most of us can live with. The idea is what should be critiqued, not the S.O.B. putting it out there. For instance there is a huge difference in the idea of abortion being murder, than the performer being a murderer. The first may be relevant the second is just stupid.

Or it's contrary to their opinion or their motive.

If I gave it to you would you accept it? I'm guessing no! I don't believe in all situations it does. I don't believe it does in a situation where it would be certain death for the mother and I don't believe it does in a situation where the life of the child would be profoundly compromised. Aside from those two reasons for sure, human life is sacred and everything possible should be done to prolong it until the point where the life is no longer worth living. Reasons like don't want kids, can't afford kids, kids will cramp my lifestyle aren't good reasons. Unless we know otherwise we have to assume the child will be born healthy and there are thousands of people wishing to adopt.

One of the most sensible statements I've seen for awhile! -:) Your good sense is amazing!
Please tell me what makes human life so sacred? Who deemed it so? Why is it more sacred than a dog or a camel or a tree? This view you express is not an absolute truth, it is only your particular view based upon what you have been taught, your religious background, and a very self-centered view of the universe. I hate to break it to you buddy but humans are no more sacred or important in this universe that a grain of sand on the beach.

It all depends on perspective.

The more angles tossed around, the better.

Even if the point doesn't hit it's target it is a necessity.

It's impossible to describe a hole without describing it's surroundings.

How can you have a murder without a murderer?

Even in war crimes "I was just following orders" does not get you out of it.

Why would it be any different in the civil arena?

Please tell me what makes human life so sacred?
Self awareness.

No, you are not pc, according to what I read in a different thread you are french-canadian which is by far worse than anything else and would explain a lot about you and what you post. You see I'm not very pc either so take your froggie a$$ somewhere else unless you want to actually interject something rational and semi-intelligent into the current debate.

Self awareness.

That doesn't mean a damn thing Pete. We know that animals are self-aware therefore just as sacred as any human. There are unproven theories that plants have some awareness so they too must be just as sacred. No Pete, it is simply a self-aggrandized delusion that WE are the most important and sacred species in the universe.

Flatout BS. It takes living cells to make living cells (other than nature gluing together the building blocks of life.) Sperm cells are alive and so are eggs. DUH
HUMAN eggs and sperm creating a completely unique, new, human life at conception.

Actually, that's an interesting observation, because it pretty-much correlates with how most neuroscientists classify sentience.

The general consensus is that there's four sentient species on this planet: 1) humans, 2) bottle-nose dolphins, 3) bonobos, and 4) african elephants... and the determining factor is they all exhibit characteristics of self-awareness.

It gets complicated trying to determine if another species is self-aware when one is a member of a species with so many members who are *not* self-aware.

Bravo! You... and the 4 or five posters before you have just been doing what you accuse me of...... plus you do it with the condescending attitude of real twits.
Look in the mirror because you all seem to have delusions of adequacy...and swelled heads.
It might frustrate me a little.............................. if you had the intelligence you pretend to have

BTW I am not French Canadian ....I'm Canadian Bilingual Francophone....There is a difference, and that would make me smarter than a unilanguage twit who would rely on google translator

Wrong, but thanks for playing. It is merely a group of cells, if it appeared in a man or any other part of the body it would be called a tumor.

You just finished saying 'self-awareness' was what made us sacred yet a fetus at conception has no self-awareness. In fact there is no awareness at all for many months and most would believe self-awareness doesn't happen until months after birth.

pffffffffffffffft, that last line was funny...also as we advance we are able to better measure events/occurrences, just because we are not aware of another species level does not mean they have not attained it....a British scientist has lately determined there is a dog in the Netherlands who has the understanding and vocabulary of a two year old. The dog can infer which is highly unusual. If she shows it a two d picture he can go to another room and pick it from a pile.

If it's not human life, then what is it?

So what is it that keeps you wanting to live? Even those in the most miserable of circumstances still WANT to live.

Bleh... I am so jealous of polyglots. I came from a family who thought they were doing me a favour not teaching me the language of the home country.

They thought I'd get as confused as they were trying to learn english as an adult.

I'd say I was sorry but I would be lying. I am definitely condescending to someone who offers nothing intelligent to a serious debate. It would appear from your reaction you fall into that "dish it out but can't take it" group of people. Oh well! Doesn't matter to me Dafroggie. Your attempt to portray yourself as more intelligent than I am simply because you speak a bastardized form of french is quite funny and realistically invalid as you have no idea how many languages I speak or what they may be. But hey, keep up what your good at as I find it entertaining.
