Why is it that the white man's slang for a coloured person is so much worse and offensive than a coloured person's slang for a white man?

If you watch the video it explains it very well...it has to do with lynchings and death, quite a valid fear.

This is definitely political correctness, gone too far. What irks me is, her words, regardless of what, were part of a PRIVATE conversation. She should be suing the jerk who leaked it. We all use inappropriate language in private conversation, if all of us were called out on it, all of us would be out of a job. This new "touchy feely, get in touch with your emotions", generation is starting to bug me. So she used the "N" word, so what? Anyone want to call me a "Honky", bring it. It's not like she was dragging a black person behind a truck on a gravel road doing 60, or strung a black person up from a tree, or is part of the KKK. She said a word, which wasn't directed at any one person. Everybody is just too damn sensitive. Suck it up princess.

not far enough yet until we are all equal

If the N word is a part of our vocabulary then we deserve to lose our jobs

****** is the word they called them when they hung them from trees because of the colour of their SKIN

Anyone want to call me a "Honky", bring it.
How many of your ancestors died because they were honkies? How many of your ancestors were slaves because they were white?

It's not like she was dragging a black person behind a truck on a gravel road doing 60, or strung a black person up from a tree, or is part of the KKK.
That is exactly what it is like.

She said a word, which wasn't directed at any one person.
Yeah that makes it okey dokey.

Everybody is just too damn sensitive.
No the problem is people aren't sensitive enough, and they still don't get it.

Suck it up princess.
she is, to the tune of 17 milliion a year in lost revenue, because her sponsors have spoken and they don't want her... she is a racist.

For what?

Let's try to keep in mind that nobody is punishing Paula Deen. Certain companies have decided not to do business with her any more, which is their absolute right as private actors in the market.

I watched the video.

I think you've hit the nail on the head, miniboss!

I guess we have to balance political correctness with freedom of speech.

The funny part is that if Paula Deen had come out as a lesbian, and all the same companies dropped her, all the lefties here would be crying foul and all the righties would be defending the companies fiercely.

Maybe six people (and probably not even that) would react the same way as they have to this news.

how are lesbians comparable to people who use pejoratives? And all the righties are defending her are they not...on my Facebook scroll they sure are, hell even the Obama-blamers have crawled out from underneath their rocks and are blaming him for her being dropped by companies.

In this context, they are people who are sufficiently controversial that companies who wish to avoid political/social controversies could well choose not to have them as spokespeople.

Yes, that's what I said.

It's particularly funny because righties usually stand up for the rights of corporations to any damn thing they please. Now they're fuming because corporations made decisions about a spokesperson. The few of them who actually understand that the government is completely uninvolved in this flap, that is.

Oh horse sh*t, anyone with half a brain can see this is wrong.. as I pointed out in the video above - if you don't want to listen to the whole video, just advance it to the 9 minute mark..

Racism not only hurts those who are targeted, but it hurts the racist in the end. Paula got caught but can't stand that she got caught. So, she sends these faux-pologies to everyone except the people she insulted.

Now, her empire is in jeopardy because she was expose for the racist she is. She only did herself in the end and I will not cry for her loss.

The treatment of African Americans in the early days was despicable as was the treatment of the North American Indian and the Jew and the Ukrainian. Can we today differentiate in the treatment of races based on past history or do we let that go and start over with a clean even slate? Of course, historically it was the Arian race that in most cases were the worst offenders, so maybe it's not up to us to decide.

The Asians didn't treat the Caucasians very well in the 1200's.

Agreed, it is not up to us to decide. When blacks are equal then we get a clean slate, they have come a long way, but there is still much racism today... would you feel like giving a clean slate if your grandfather was hung from a tree, and your mother was `lucky enough` to spend an hour on a bus heading to the white part of town so she could be a maid.

Up until 1955 blacks sat at the back of the bus...I still remember race riots...I still remember people thinking it was okay to call people `darkies` I still remember almonds being called n-toes, I still remember having my girlfriends child at the park and another child coming over to play and his mother yanking her child away while giving me razor sharp looks...I didn`t know what the problem was, but my girlfriend did... I still remember the huge fight in our neighbourhood when the first black family moved in and my dad wouldn`t sign the petition against it... I remember a lot of angry words between neighbours although I didn`t know why...

So no, it is no where near time yet to equate the term honky or cracker with ******.

I should add here... I think those words are despicable too, but they would not fill me with fear or anger. Like the woman in the video, the word I find equally offensive to ****** is the c word since that is the word frequently used by abusers who objectify women and view them as worthless trash.
