Actually who gives a sh*t about any of them, they are all cannibalistic and when one dies another takes its place.

He asked what destroyed mom and pop stores in big cities.

You can remove your foot out of your mouth now.

Actually I generally agree with #Juan, but to say Walmart's merchandise is junk is a misnomer.

Some of it actually is junk.

Well, I suppose if it's compared to stuff sold 50 years ago by Eatons. I bought a Hewlett Packard printer from Walmart and it appears to be the same quality as other H.P. Printers, which I've heard are as good as they get. A lot of their merchandise is "nickel and dime" stuff, such as paper clips where quality isn't really an issue.

I didn't say "everything in Walmart is junk" I said "some of it" is. Have you looked at the list of yummy stuff in processed meats? I bought a small clock from Wallyworld that lasted a whole 2.5 months.

Well there are two things I can comment on. Due to recent health issues and doctors' advice I wouldn't even bother looking at the stuff in processed meats and very seldom eat them any more. I bought a wrist watch from a Jewellry store down town with a "leather" strap, which deteriorate and fell off after one month. I bought a replacement at Walmart a year or more ago and it's fine. I suppose all this is what the great scholar would classify as "anecdotal evidence" -:)

Irrelevant. Why does your MD advise against eating those processed meats and whatnot that are available in WM?

Irrelevant. Walmart isn't the Only place that sells some junk and no-one suggested otherwise.

Like I said, not everything from WM is junk.

So? Either those processed meats are junk, or at least full of junk or they aren't. Either my clock was junk or it wasn't.

Well, for me salt and fat kind of puts them into the "junk" category. Mind you most people can get away with eating junk periodically, I guess I've reached the point where it's less periodically. LOL

I guess in the final analysis Walmart isn't much different from most other stores.

Remember the Mom and Pop stores??? Guess who drove them out of business???

Yeah, I remember the "Mom and Pop" stores in Timmins like Marshall-Ecclestone's and Buckovetsky's that ripped off consumers for decades with whatever the market would bear because there was no competition.

I shed no tears for "Mom and Pop".

I would say with "Mom and Pop" they probably run the full gamut from businesses that try to serve their customers faithfully to those who are just interested in the "bottom line". Of course when you can't purchase in quantity you are at a huge disadvantage.

Ha. One of my friends in Timmins was called Mashall Ecclestone just to p-iss him off. Buckovetsky's was insanely over priced. I never bought anything there. I only went a few times over 5 years or so though.

Since Ive been living in Ottawa Ive only been to Walmart once. Im not intentionally avoiding them, they're just all out of my way. Works out nicely as im not much of a fan of them.

The power of social media is not to be underestimated. It looks like Best Buy has become the target for social media activists. Best Buy has acknowledged "Moving Day" instead of "Canada Day" in it's Montreal flyer and this move has upset a lot of people.

'Moving Day' replaces 'Canada Day' in Quebec Best Buy ad - Montreal - CBC News

Walmart has done the same, yet it somehow managed to avoid a backlash on social media.

There is one major difference between the box stores of today and the Ma and Pop operations of the past and that is personal servive. Of course there was no VISA or Mastercard and loyal customers could run a bill that was paid faithfully at the end of the month, with no interest or carrying charges. There wasn't all these bullsh*t flyers where you have to read the fine print- you knew the product was good because the merchant told you it was and if it wasn't he/she would take it back. Not like F**King F***reshop...........lying bastards. Some outfits delivered free of charge.

However the service today is just as the patron demands.............fast and dirty.
