doesn't this leave the system wide open for corruption by stacking the vote?

I could just find out who hasn't voted for years, get their names and addresses and voila...100 extra votes for me?

what am I missing here?

Yes it does! And it happens in urban areas quite a lot!

You're not missing anything.

That must really p-iss off the named guy if he shows up to vote and finds out he already has. Though given the low voter turnout I imagine a fair number of them dont show up at all anyway. I dont mind showing ID. Id rather show ID than risk having someone else take my vote.

Well IDs are not required. The mere mention of pushing a bill that requires an ID to vote is deemed racist as the liberal Democrats do not have much faith in minority voters to go out and get an ID. Plus it will make voter fraud much more difficult.

I cannot imagine how someone could to the polls and vote without proving they are in
some way eligible to do so. here in BC we have to have two pieces of ID one picture
ID to vote in a Provincial Election. Elections Canada also requires ID to vote and that
should be invoked to ensure citizens are voting and not just who ever shows up

I am surprised at you DG... the very people who have fought against IDs are the ones you praise daily in here. The ones that are pushing for a voter ID law are the ones you slander.

It just goes to show that you really have no idea of what is going on down here.

Democrats believe that requiring proof of identification to vote is racist and disenfranchising to African-Americans.

Embellish much? No license/permit needed to buy a gun?

I went to the police station...got a mug shot and finger printed... then I was issued a firearms permit.

Dunno what state you live in but here in Gopherland you do NOT need a license or permit to buy rifles or shotguns. Not-so-strangely the Tea Baggers have no problem with that but they demanded that the state require ID when voting. They got quite frustrated when we voted down the voter ID referendum last November with moderate Republican backing. As always they don't like to have their double standards thrown back at their ugly faces.

Please clear up for our Canadian friends why the Democrats do not want a voter ID law. If you would.

Don't you have to show some sort of proof when you register to vote?

In California a fake birth certificate is relatively cheap. It allows the holder to get a driver's license and to register to vote at the same time. It's called the Motor Voter program.

Oh the irony! Right wingers demand that people present ID when they register to vote but not to buy a gun or other weapon as that makes purchasers traceable and reduces their "rights".

In California I had to present several forms of ID, including a photo ID, in order to buy my weapons.

If you want a Democrat to answer you will have to ask someone from that party. I suggest you contact the nearest Dem party office in your area.
Walks like a duck, quacks like a duck.............you're a Democrat...

Perhaps you may want to move to Gopherland where you can buy rifles easier than a carton of cigarettes.

You forgot that it was moderate Republicans who won that vote.

Shows how much you know. ;)

Even the local right wingers approve the 7 day wait period - get a permit at the nearest police or sheriff station and approval is pretty much automatic. So far as I know, only one hood was caught in the past year trying to get one even though he had a prior conviction. And that was only because a cop recognized the name from that earlier conviction. The record keeping is so lax here that his name easily dropped off the watch list.

Thanks for answering

I wish there was a more purple font to denote extreme sarcasm but that will have to do.
