Actually Beans are very good for you, high in protein, high in fiber.
Obesity is not a disease. This is bull, made up by doctors trying to line their pockets. Also it is just giving over weight people another excuse, instead of solutions. I work with woman that are grossly overweight, and what do they have at work, bags of chips, candy, chocolate bars, and drink endless amounts of pop.
Also I can't understand how people can say that they buy junk food because it is easier to cook. It is expensive.
Make your own mac and cheese, it is cheaper, because you buy in bulk, as well as other things.

Ridiculous. If the Americans were correct, then poverty rates should increase as social spending does. Looking at OECD data, the relationship is inverse. Sweden pays almost twice as much on social spending as the US, yet the US poverty rate is three times higher. The trend across nations is clear:
Gapminder Community - http://www.oecd.org/els/social/inequality

And in the US, people on the government teet have it made! Free Everything... including vacations! All paid for... everything.

Yah, what with the lower standard of living and shortened life expectancy. Aint life grand...

If Americans were truly concerned about why welfare persists, they would funnel more social spending towards programs that actually make a difference instead of keeping a band aid system that simply catches those falling through the cracks. But if one thing is clear, it's that reactive is a better description than proactive when it comes to American politics.

Oh please... spare me. Obese people are now a protected victim class in the US. You can surely get obese from eating an abundance of good food. You will not get obese from eating an occasional meal from Wendy's... i.e bad food.

Obesity is from eating way too much food than you are burning. And our poor obese class...It is also from choosing to use food stamps in fast food joints for the speed meal so you don't have to cook and have more time to be lazy.

Our poor in the US do not hunger, all is provided for free. If any kid goes to bed hungry it is the parent's fault. I would bet those children that hunger have a house full of food... they just wanted their Fourth Meal from Taco Bell and mom was down at the bar.

Oh I forgot... you believe money that people earn belongs to the government. We the workers should be thankful of what the government allows us to keep.

I have been enjoying your posts as well. Very well put.

There is PLENTY of money in SNAP and welfare to eat healthy. The notion that there isn't enough SNAP money to buy healthy food is a myth. I see shopping carts full of junk all paid for with a SNAP card. Chips, soda, frozen pizzas... junk processed food.

That is no excuse to not being able to cook. Cooking is not hard but it requires time and effort. Time and effort which cuts into their leisure time.

People who are on disability and who truly need help are not the problems. The problem lies in the ones who are perfectly healthy and have chosen to live off the state and federal government and not work. They have been provided a living that discourages work.

I could right now quit my job and become dependent upon the state and feds and never go hungry and always have a roof over my head with plenty of spending cash for entertainment. And there is not a thing that the government or the taxpayers can do to stop me.

You think you could eh? The US of A is empty Smack. Watch the video below, it's a banker making mouth and mind contortions no one can mistake for anything other than pure evil. America is literally being eaten by bankers.

Bankers did this?

Me thinks that you might want to look at the gubmint for answers to the whereabouts of the cash

In the video it is the government asking the Federal Reserve where the money has gone because it is money that the government did not get a chance to waste. It was dispersed without government knowlege to unknown entities. Please note that the Federal Reserve is a cartel of private bankers. The loot was stolen well before government could steal it. In the west money comes from private banks at interest. You borrow from them or they break your legs.

''protected victim class''

Yeah, just like corporate welfare recipients who are somehow overtaxed while sheltering trillions overseas in tax free accounts.

The problem of obesity clearly comes from eating too much crap "food" rather than real food. Back in the 1950s and 60s when I was growing up we ate plenty of lard every day and nobody was obese. That's because we ate real food rather than the puke that is sold today.

Just when I thought you had posted the dumbest thing ever you surpass yourself again. My daughter just returned from an extended stay in Bangladesh working with the poorest of the poor. None were starving and none were obese. Obesity can only be caused by too much food, good or bad, going in the oral orifice.

When it comes to posting idiocies on this forum you surpass eagle by a long shot. Your repeated anti-Obama horse shït is amusing but full of total crap.

There are many factors which contribute to obesity such as the fact that adults are bigger today than in past generations, the fact that we live more sedentary lives, and the fact that we snack more than in the past. Nonetheless, it remains the truth that child hood obesity is largely caused by eating the garbage that passes for food today:

Do a Google and you will find an endless series of similar reports.

It would be impossible for the gvt not to know. 9 trillion isn't something that even the lowest level clerk would not notice.

In the end, the gubmint (in one of it's many forms) would have noticed the discrepancy, in fact, the myriad of Fed agencies that depend on the 'health' of the Fed Reserve for their sheer existence via their budgetary requirements would be a weather vane on those funds.

My guess is that the Feds dipped into the fund over time and are throwing up all the smoke and mirrors they can to muddy the issue as much as possible

An individual's choice of the foods they consume is exactly that - a choice.

No 2 ways about it; obesity (excepting genetic specific circumstances) is entirely 'preventable' and quite simply so

I don't believe people living in dire poverty have much of a choice. They use fill foods which hold few nutrients and many calories. I think of what I spend in a week on veggies and fruit alone. I have access to a grocery store just down the street. Right here in Canada children go to school hungry, try to tell a tot it is their fault they are obese or that they have a choice.

Maybe people should actually find out how much a welfare mum gets per month and attempt to live on it for a few months.

Hungry children? Where? In the US?! You've GOT to be kidding! Our so called "poor" are the most obese class in the United States! If any kid goes to bed hungry... look for a negligent parent.

That might be true, but they are also the most expensive to treat when they come into emergency rooms later in life suffering from diabetes, heart disease etc, which the government will end up covering the costs. Morbidly obese poor folk is not exactly a great statistic to have.

Poverty does limit choice especially since many poor have to work 2 or 3 jobs so that eating good meals at home is an impossibility for many. Thus, they have no choice but to eat at some junk food place like McDonalds because it is more convenient. Same for kids whose parents cannot be home to cook because of that 2 or 3d job.
