Are Universities and Free Speech Compatible???

Its getting to the point where the average person doesn't want to say anything because of the ridicule he may have to endure. This is absolutely abhorant. The other morning, there was a discussion on a local radio station about how the US Court is going to be ruling about the legality of same sex marriage. Someone called in and said that they didn't agree that it should not be allowed and that in his opinion, marriage was between a man and a woman. He stated his belief - he wasn't ignorant (as some can be) stating his opinion. But that's what he was called - ignorant and a moron. Excuse me?? It's his opinion, which as I understand, he is entitled to - he didn't say whether it was based on religion or homophobia - he simply stated his opinion. I thought the radio personnel went too far and I let them know. They can agree to disagree and hope that he becomes more "enlightened" (as if he actually needs to be) but I was really appalled at the reaction to his statement.

No wonder people can't have a civil discussion about anything - if you don't go with the "accepted flow....(i.e. PC crowd)" one is vilified and called all sorts of names. Where the hell did free speech go?? So all this thread does is reinforce the fact that we don't have free speech anymore and we're all expected to be sheep. The Universities in this country (and the US from what I understand) are fertile grounds for this type of thinking so I worry about the future of our country when no one will be allowed to have an alternative opinion.

A Mouse Once Bit My Sister
But it was a mouse that bit your sister, therefore ipso facto....the implication was there. ;)

It could have been someone like you that was wearing Mickey Mouse ears whilst in the process of biting. I'm guessing that you were pretty wild back in the day, you know, booze, drugs, mouse ears... It all fits the picture

LOL. Honey, I am so not a Disney girl! Ever since they offed Bambi's mom, I knew they were deep down evil incarnate. I just knew it!

And don't even get me started on Ole Yellar!

No, I learned how to hone my penchant for sarcasm, shenanigans and general all around mischievary at the feet of the master.....Bugs Bunny! He was a wascally wabbit. :D

But that aside, we've all done some regrettable things while experimenting as youth.... Wearing mouse ears under the influence is nothing to be ashamed of.

Granted, I may have a bit too much to drink that one time, I sincerely didn't mean to set that fire (who knew 'fight fire with fire' was not meant to be taken literally?) and I still maintain that those were 'art shots'. But mouse ears? No way. Wasn't me!
