German Sheperds being one of the closest to the wolf line rarely have any issues. Awesome dogs. for pets and work animals.

Due to unscrupulous breeders, some shepherds have problems with hip displacia. I used to have an Alsatian (long haired shepherd). He was one of the most loyal, friendly and intelligent dogs I've had, but then, we lived with each other 24/7. I swear he could read my thoughts.
The German Shepherds hips are awful. That was the preferred dog of my parents and in the end their hips were awful. It is that sloped back that puts all that weight on their hips. It was sad to see them struggle in their later years.
Too much inbreeding in some kennels.
I had a long haired too. He only bit when someone from the family was harmed. He knew his property boundaries, slept on the ground with his tail over his nose in the snow and only took shelter in the rain. If someone he didn't know came in the yard, he was all teeth if you stepped off the walk.
The two I have on the farm are the same way. Never been indoors, know and protect their turf with their lives. Unless you're in a white vehicle (cops, meatwagon, telephone, gas, power, municipailty) you aren't getting out until you call the phone number posted.

I wonder if this Mark Kelly dude advocates pit bulls in lieu of guns.
But when it comes down to it I'd have to say guns are more trustworthy...

Dobermans are pussies. I was attacked by two one time and I scared them off by being crazier than they were. (Works on people too.)

The charts and number don't differentiate from working dogs and pets. Working dogs will always have higher numbers if they aren't separate from pets in the numbers.
As pets, yip dogs would top the charts.
A lot of drug dealers and just general low life criminal element have pit bulls, mostly for stupid macho image but also because they enjoy the ability to see someones throat being ripped off. So, just like places that want to ban guns, is that going to prevent violent death at the hand of these pit bulls? I think pit bulls are here, so the question is what do we do with them? Do we interbreed with another breed of dog to try to 'breed out' the worst tendencies? I do seriously question that little slips of a girl, like the one in the OP, should not be owning such powerful breed. What if instead of a seal that had been a toddler that the dog had encountered on the beach? Sometimes it really difficult to predict what any dog may perceive as a thread.
A pit bull was shot by cops in an incident that started on my street and ended with the pit in it's own yard being shot during a canine search of the area when the canine unit and pitbull went at it.

The hood is rough and the cops do what cops do both good and bad. Had a taser been used the pit the cop and the canine would have all been zapped. Tough call.
It was a tough call. But when I read through it, it didn't strike me as another "pit bull" attack. Dog was tied up in his own yard and dealing with intruders. Any dog would have reacted I think.
It reads as a police dog attack, not a pit bull attack. Those are common too, and usually left out of dog attack stats.
Their k9 officer should be retired if it is so easily distracted, and can't break off an attack on a chained up dog that poses no threat.
