Add to that ES's love for ruffling the nationalists feathers, and you have a funny thread to read.

I stopped bitching at ES in PM's long ago, once he explained his goals.

His goals..... ya..... he eats, sleeps, piss's and shytes american bullshyte propaganda and does his best to spread it as thick as possible like the majority of his countrymen, and when he's called on his bullshyte he ignores it.

I see it differently, although I know he's not infallible.

Oddly enough, besides the obvious bond, I like him for many of the same reasons I like you.

Yes, that was the post, and we were fu cking "engaged" the moment our ships set sail on convoy duty. That was 6 days after Canada declared war. Not 3 fu cking years later like the american with the "solid" military knowledge stated.

See how dumb you are. We were feeding Great Britain with supplies before we got involved. Just like Canada... and we weren't even attacked.

Funny how you want us to be the "World's Policemen" then huh?

Hypocrite.

Canadian World War II Battles - Canada at War

If folks want to thump their chest... they better be able to back it up.

You have not called me on shyte igloo dweller.

Americans believe the war lasted from 1942 to 1945 when in fact they were
sitting on the sidelines while the rest of us were doing the heavy lifting warding off Nazi
oppression.

I was responding to this ridiculous claim Gerry... you big dope.

The word "engaged" may have an entirely different meaning to a soldier than to a civilian, when Canada declared war in 1939.

You are 100% correct DaS.

Too bad your hyper nationalist Gerry doesn't see beyond his maple sap buckets.

Nope just acknowledging once in a while that you aren't the world's messiah and that other countries actually contribute in a positive way and being humble once in a while, that would be a wonderful start. I actually like quite a few Americans but they are usually the humble ones that actually do contribute to world's betterment.

The more people I meet regardless of nation, the more I see the ones without the need to be right and in your face are usually the ones that always are right.

Its OK we are still laughing from Argo. That was a good one! It was almost as hilarious as U-571 (The Brits really stole the inegma machine), Inglorious Basterds (Hitler wasn't killed by Americans or Jews in a Paris Theater), Saving Private Ryan (Americans weren't the only ones who landed on D-Day...)....

BTW, can anyone else think of other American movies where Americans are incorrectly credited with things they never did?
Before the movie was made 95 % (and that is a low number) of Canadians knew SFA about the actual events. They may have been able to recall a few facts and by few less than 3. Yourself included.

.

Well there are plenty of Americans that will roll over just to be p*ssed on by the likes of Gerry and others. They enjoy when self-loathing Yanks grovel ... nevertheless they still p*ss on them.

And come now... how does that Canadian saying go...

"Americans think they live in the best country in the world... Canadians know they do."

Please now Sal... let's be honest.

I wonder how sweet they would be after being subject to the idiocy we see thrown at American here.

"Escort of merchant ship convoys was the RCN's chief responsibility during the Battle. The first convoy sailed from Halifax on September 16, 1939, escorted by the Canadian destroyer St. Laurent. By mid-1942, the RCN, with support from the RCAF, was providing nearly half the convoy escorts, and afterward carried out the lion's share of escort duty."

WWII: The Battle of the Atlantic - Canada at War

Let's see how big a man the big tough american really is.

Ya.... can't be callin the americans on their BS. It's just not "Canadian".

C'mon! You LOVES us hosers, you knows you do!:D

Every time I hear a Canadian lament about how the American's don't know X about Canada, I always think to myself "Wonder how many Canadian's actually know X?". Sadly probably not that many. Both nations have it's pride and it's prejudices too. And sadly we both have a fair dollop of ignorant twits as well. About ourselves and each other. When you really stop and think about it, we should all be ganging up on them.

That being said I will admit to getting some mileage out of Americans and Map jokes. In my defense though I think it's important to point out that two things should be very clear everybody. I enjoy my humour and frankly I can be quite lazy.

Only when THEY come in and try to take credit where it is not due and at the expense of us Yanks regarding history. You KNOW that to be true.

No, your leap into this thread really doesn't support that.

The real events are a valid discussion. No one was harping on the US or overinflating Canadian involvement from what I could see, before you came in with purple font, exclamations, and swearing about people 'b itching'. Your reaction seemed very much based in past arguments, not this actual issue.

WTF is it with people - It is based on a true story. After that it is all Hollywood and they can and will change whatever to ensure it makes money and more money,as in tons of money.
Like the scene where Affleck is on the plane and they are trying to stop the plane before takeoff.
Never happened but makes for great entertainment.
If anyone thinks a plane could have gotten away that easily is well in need of other entertainment.
Myself I did not see it as an Oscar. But that is just me.
