Here's a quote for everyone:

“Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.”

Socrates

it's the way youth is supposed to be (in general)

I don't know...I did not come from a typical family that's for sure. And I had no curfew and neither did my close friends and sometimes I would just crash at my girlfriends or vice versa. Some kids just seem to "get it" maybe because it is just an expectation placed upon them that they accept.

I see that too today. I would just trust them. At school the kids who were covering the office had to be responsible, really responsible. I let anyone do the job who applied. I just gave them a few rules, told them they were responsible for setting up the coverage schedule, gave them a cheat sheet on how I wanted things done and then I left them alone.i told them they would never get in trouble for asking questions, that no question was stupid, then I would correct any problems that were reported to me. Basically I left them alone pretty much like my parents did with me. I was never disappointed.

Yep, I think telling kids that you have faith in them and believe they won't let you down, solves part of the problem- the trouble makers generally aren't the kids who have confidence in themselves and believe their desire to do good is recognized.

agreed...now some kids I would place further responsibility upon once I saw their performance...but in general, I just expected them to do a good job...period.

Let's be frank... this is what happens when opposing cliques show up at a party. If you are an unpopular kid, do NOT throw a house party. This is the likely result. I remember one infamous house party thrown in my home town, before my time, that served as a warning for us and probably still does for town youth, where a fight broke out and the 'host' got tossed out of the house while party crashers ran rampant and destroyed the place, going so far as to tear down the stair case to the basement.

I think those kids could be categorized as "BRATS"

I think the elderly are the problem, in fact it's a dead certainty that they are responsible for the wayward youth of today. The elderly are always less than satisfied with the progress of youth, that's what ensures survival of the species by driving youth to rebel and aspire to outdo the old folks despite of and in the midst of the constant protest of geezers. All geezers should congradulate themselves on a job half done.

I remember one back in the day where a landlord wanted an insurance reno.

That happens too.

That's why bush parties were the best.

Oh, yeah! And when was the last time you saw the elderly going on a rampage destroying houses? Do you think all youth are outdoing the old folks? Most elderly I know understand values, oh yeah, and when in school we learned how to spell! -:)

Far more pregnancies than deaths back in the day.

Oh, that must be why our population is on the decline!

They're too old to do it now and they have matured.

Years ago I happened to find an old newspaper from the late 1930's in a wall. I went through it and would you believe there was an article of young teenage boys getting caught tipping over head stones and drinking in a cemetery!

What was with those kids!
