I would think pretty long and hard about buying an apt. style condo in a bldg that allowed smoking as well, for the reasons outlined above. I also believe responsible parents don't smoke in a car with their kids. If that makes me an @$$hole, nazi or some other derogatory term, then so be it.

I hear you...............on the flip side of the coin, it does give you a pretty hefty lever to negotiate a price.

There is a way to get everyone to quit painlessly. Tobacco like any other plant can have it's chemical traits increased or reduced which means nicotine can be bred out of the plant.

If every year for 5 years the nicotine levels in the tobacco crops were reduced by XX% the entire population of smokers would be weened off nicotine without them ever having to deal with "nick fits".

Society could easily be smoke free by 2020

You're smoking something a lot stronger than Tobacco if you think idiotic bull like that is going to work.

Really? Smokers have already had their nicotine reduced by 20-30% without ever knowing.

Did increasing THC in weed through breeding reduce the number of weed smokers? Would you smoke a fatty if you got nothing from it?

My wife still smokes and I've turned into one of those vocal azzholes who complain about others smoking. Last summer I bought seeds and grew her a bunch, cured it and the whole shebang. It wasn't the golden or "natural" cultivar but Cuban cigar tobacco with a smell I liked and it tasted great as cigarettes.

If I can't convince her to quit, I'll be planting a sh*tload this spring.

lol!

It's the dopamine addiction that is hard to break, nicotine is an easy addiction to break in comparison.
Well if you can grow your own tobacco and make your own cigarettes, wouldn't they be way better for you health wise? Cigarettes purchased over the counter: Tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 different chemicals, at least 50 are known to be carcinogens (cause cancer in humans) and many are poisonous.

What are they like these cigarettes that you make for your wife?

I hear you...............on the flip side of the coin, it does give you a pretty hefty lever to negotiate a price.
I don't know about that, your resale would suck. Plus you would have to paint, rip carpeting out and god only knows what else depending upon the saturation of the smoke and what it had penetrated.

Yep, well, I was thinking maybe a reduction of maybe $15-$20 thousand. (or maybe that is not even reasonable)

maybe.... if you can smell smoke for sure it is worth somewhat of a reduction because I do know it makes resale much harder...usually you tell them to clean the carpets throughout and paint throughout and not to smoke until the sale is complete

They are nice. It's a dark tobacco, very sweet tasting and very aromatic. The smoke doesn't smell like cigarette, cigar or even pipe tobacco it's kinda spicy scented like an incense.

If you want seeds, I'll gladly send some.

I did grow some golden "natural" tobacco but it goes as gifts, trade and for ceremonial use in "the Indian way" which unfortunately the majority is for funerals which I seem to be going to a lot of lately.

Sounds nice.

And thanks so much Petros for the seed offer. I don't think I will be smoking again though, even something less carcinogenic like your home grown.

I do think there are possibilities for something such as that on the market.

Quite often one associates smoking with lung and throat cancer, but that is only the thin edge of the wedge. From what I can gather even more die from heart and artery disease, emphysema, COPD etc.

Bingo, yes, it's the heart and possible Copd because it decreases oxygen to the body organs and the heart has to pump harder. I was super lucky with the speed of my lung clearance after quitting. They pinked up quickly, and I have good oxygen capacity, however they are now enlarged and that is not good and can not be remedied.

The market for a safer, organically grown, high quality tobacco is there but there is no way in hell you could make a profit after going through the regulation criteria and the big companies would do everything in their power to shut you down.

In Fiji it's common for people to grow their own Tobacco I know a number of indigenous who do that-it's cured by keeping it wrapped in newspaper under the mattress for a month or so.

It's said to be super strong and is smoked in very skinny cigarettes that go out frequently and the cost is only pennies a week.

One Australian woman of my acquaintance-a long time smoker-says it far too strong for her to even consider.

Yes I was thinking you might disappear if the cigarette companies thought there was competition. Once people quit and their market decreases to the point where the profit is no longer there, they will come up with a cigarette that is not carcinogenic, organically grown and does something for your body which improves it's health instead of kills ya.

Check with your doctor to find out if climbing 20 flights of stairs a day will help compensate. I bet it will.

I think in my lifetime, Canadians have gone from 22% smokers to ....what is it now?....16 or 17% smokers? In general, I think it is a good trend.

that's still over 4 and a half million with a lot of the smokers being youth, and some stats place it more around the 6 million mark which is still high

thanks for the suggestion...nothing to compensate for though... my air intake is actually better than average...you can't shrink your lungs once they are enlarged... exercise which allows for anaerobic metabolism would be the best but at my age would likely kill me before it helped my lungs...lmao
