I've killed 4 (possibly 5) people by not wearing my seat belt.

When you have an accident, and you will and you hit that windshield, you'll learn quickly enough that you don't go through it.. it shatters in different levels and you slide along it taking hair, skin, whatever else it can grab off your body..

You look like hell after words, not to mention the figgen pain, and shards of glass slivers stuck in your body.. after that day.. you'll always wear a seat belt. Speaking from personal experience.. however, I was young and stupid at the time.. 25 years later.. I won't move the vehicle till everyone fasten their belts..

So what's your excuse?? Young or Stupid?

p.s I was also pronounced dead and they called my dad to go the Hospital.. my mother did not show up. So the pain I caused my family was more than the pain I was in.. trust me.

Hubby was young and stupid once upon a time. He hit a patch of black ice at Two Creeks hill. He spun around and hit the ditch backwards. The truck flipped end for end. He proceeded to be thrown out the windshield, but was saved by the snow the truck hit, pushing him back inside. He now has a scar running the length of his arm from where he first started his thankfully abbreviated exit, that will make any child buckle up.

Northern Ontario,
I'm a firm believer in seat belts.....Before they became mandatory, my 3 year old son was sitting in the passenger seat of my Chevy Blazer secured with a lap belt (the only thing available at the time).
I made a left turn, his door popped open and the only thing that kept him in the truck was that belt.

Rule of thumb. NEVER pay a ticket until the court date which you will always attend. it's 50/50 whether the cop who issued the ticket shows up. If he/she doesn't, you're off the hook.

Yah, but: If he shows and you have to pay, don't you then have to pay "court costs" as well ??

A Gretna, MB., man says his wages were withheld and he was hounded by a collection agency over a speeding ticket he actually tried to pay three times.

Bill Turner's troubles started with a $354 speeding ticket on Nov. 8, 2011. Turner said when he called in to pay right after getting the ticket, he was told the offence wasn't recorded.

He said he heard the same response twice more over the next six weeks.

In October, Turner received a letter stating he now owed $494 for the ticket.

A collection agency started calling up to three times a day to claim a now $1,340 tab, once insurance and registration costs factored in. A judge refused to overturn the ticket.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

Ain't as if no-one' knows gov'ts can make costs skyrocket.

I should have picked another example. How about a burn't out license plate light. Anyone died from that yet?

Nope.
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
I don't do crimes, I pay fines for infractions. 1 every 5 years maybe.

My last fine was about a decade back. Speeding. I wasn't speeding.

The day it happened, there was no power (power outage) in not only the
city of Regina, but many parts of Sk, Ab, BC, & some of the northern states.
Seems our grids are somehow interconnected. Anyway...

I'm driving a '78 four-door Cadillac with a 425cu in low compression motor.
Fuel consumption really wasn't bad as long as you babied it. I coasted away
from the traffic lights for that reason, with the theory of, "If someone doesn't
like it....they can push all 6000lbs of me out'a they was with their little cars!"

No power (power outage) so no traffic lights = four way stops...& people are
just dumb when it comes to these situations. Not that it matters, but I'm at the
intersection of Park & Dewedney going south. I wait my turn and proceed
through the intersection, clear it by maybe 60ft....and the police parked in the
parking lot entrance of a Co-op gas bar pull me over. 70km/h on their radar. (?)

Impossible. Went back later that evening with the power on with my Caddy &
just hammered it off the line on a green light. Made it up to almost 50km/h by the
place where the police pulled my over. Tried the same thing with my Sister's
Sable with it's 6 cylinder motor & got closer to the 70km/h but not quite.

Told my tale in court. Judge says, "That's very convincing, so I'll cut the fine in
half. Next!"

Can't do the time, sometimes it doesn't matter if you do the crime.

Predated demerit points. On a motorcycle through that intersection, when the
power was on so I knew some knob who doesn't understand the concept of
a 4-way stop wasn't going to mow me down....& just crack'n the throttle wide,
I could'a hit 70km/h in that short span....but not many other things could have.

Oh well.

I used to do that too. I have had one too many calls at two way stops while on a bicycle in the direction without the stops with people that were only looking for vehicles. To be honest, I still do when driving, I just feel nervous about it.

I almost came to a complete stop one day then casually started turning left when I realized the person about to hit me from the left wasn't slowing down for their stop.

Life is such a fragile thing.

Can someone explain if this is even possible? From my part of the country, I wasn't aware that a collection agency can pick up speeding tickets. And, how is it possible that the tab grew to $1340? ie since when does a creditor have the right to prevent you from having insurance and registration? Am I missing something? this whole story sounds too confusing for me ( a non-manitoban).

I ran into a judge like that about 30 years ago, but he was a real A$$hole- ruled me 70% at fault, where the other driver was actually 100% at fault! -:)

My experience taught me (correctly or not) that traffic enforcement (& traffic court)
has little to do with safety, etc....& much to do with revenue collection. If the Judge
thinks I'm guilty....the responce would be, "Next!!!"

But what the Hell is:

"That's very convincing, so I'll cut the fine in half. Next!"

....all about beyond revenue collection? Either you're guilty or not. That's just horse ****.

Wouldn't a responsible citizen pay the ticket whether the cop shows up or not? LOL

Why would you give the govt extra money? I am far more responsible to keep that dough for myself and my family than hand it over to the court when the cop doesn't think he need to follow the law he is supposedly upholding.
