Tap water straight from the mains sold on shelves at Asda and Tesco

  • What appears good value is tap water marked up 2,500 per cent
  • Tesco start by saying the water originates from France - then admit it's from UK mains
  • Asda admit it is filtered Yorkshire Water
  • Ethical group sustain believe people are being conned
Supermarkets are selling bottled tap water to millions of unsuspecting customers.

Bottles of Tesco ‘Everyday Value Still Water’ and Asda ‘Smartprice Still Water’ are sitting on shelves alongside big brands of mineral water such as Evian and Perrier.

However, there is no explanation on the label of these supermarket brands that the contents are simply tap water.

Asda and Tesco are selling tap water as bottled water, confusing customers | Mail Online

Actually tap water is generally almost as good as the stuff that costs almost as much as pop in the stores. $millions annually is wasted on bottled water.

This is what happens in a capitalist society, profit by any means.

I can't see anything wrong with that. If you can convince people to pay for bottles of tap water, that's awesome. People pay for water with sugar and carbonation in it, they pay for water that's been boiled and has leaves in it, they pay for water that's been boiled and poured over ground up beans.

People even pay to listen to someone sing.

As opposed to what happens in a socialist society, where people line up for five hours with a bucket for their turn at the only potable water spout in town that works.
That and the practice of refilling water bottles with untreated tap water and reselling them, in Cuba.

Yep, I believe people should be able to spend their money on anything (legal) they want. Sometimes it makes their argument a little thin when they are screaming "poverty".

Democratic or socialist all want to screw the people.

Yep, crooks a found in all facets of life!

Cuba is a capitalist society?
It certainly isn't socialist.

You don't remember the good old days of Soviet Russia? Where people lined up for hours to get basic amenities?

Ahhh, the heady days of poor socialist planning at it best.

You can't have a true socialist society until the world as a whole adopts it.Otherwise poorer countries (such as Cuba) will remain bereft of certain objects if they can't afford them and find other means of survival (like the " practice of refilling water bottles with untreated tap water and reselling them, in Cuba').
I also don't know how you figure this practice is something inherent in the socialist system, for one thing it's not widespread in Cuba and probably only occurs in rural areas , secondly these type of things happen all over the world. In the U.S they find bottled water contaminated all the time.

Socialism isn't "lining up to get basic amenities", lmao.

How about we just agree that Cuba is a dictatorship? Since there really isn't much difference between a right wing and left wing dictator except spin.

They selling plastic rubbish under the guise of selling water. It's a plastics/eco-recycling big brother dream come true. Think about that for minute.

See?

Remember Moscow on the Hudson, an old fav, great movie for it's time. Coffee! coffee! coffee!!!! lol

Not in theory, but that's almost always what happens. It's just human nature. If people aren't rewarded to work, they aren't motivated to work, and as result, they don't work. Things start to fall apart.

Actually any public facility, such as water purification and sewage plants are socialist as is any other service intended for the public good and divorced from the profit motive. Right wing capitalists are simply afraid to admit that this is the case. The problen you described above is not a lack of captialism, but a lack of social infrastructure. The wealthy can always buy services in any society.
