The Canadians are getting jobbed all over these games. Our boxer just lost to GB on a countback after pummelling him for the last 2 rounds even though the brit wouldn't stop holding or pushing the Canadian's head down.

ES- you really are a f*cking jerk-off idiot. What is your problem with admitting bad calls gave the game to the US.

First, I do congratulate the U.S. on their win - controversy or not.
I don't! They didn't win, it was handed to them and quite possibly bought and paid for.

However, it is interesting to note that after the game Wombach admitted she subtly lobbied the ref for the call by counting out loud.
A fine example of a complete lack of sportsmanship and integrity....soooo American.

Also, the ref was seen to high five one of the U.S. players then rub her finger and thumb together after the call - wonder what that was all about???
Would like to see video of that. Not that FIFA would do anything but it would sure stop them trying to defend the ref.

You are all mistaken if you think the Canadian women have not lobbied for calls. Sometimes the ref agrees, and other times they don't. It's part of most if not all sports...

Too right, PN..........apparently Canad is appealing...........but I am not holding my breath. And, Canada is not the only country upset with reffing during the games - there have been other controversial calls that have been made and little has been done to address them.

In the end, the U.S. team has to live with the fact that were it not for the calls, they may very well have been crying in their beer to day. Not much to celebrate when you know you didn't win fairly and squarely. Too bad as they are a really good team.

GO JAPAN!

Agreed, Ton..............but answer me this....................where the hell was the yellow card??? Where was the red card???

The call on MacLeod for delay of game.

The US got a free kick and they should have. Watch any soccer match and you'll see this kind of dilly dallying at the end of the game by the team in the lead. Refs should call it more often in my opinion.

Let's be clear, the soccer I played growing up is not the diving ballet you see on TV. I'd say 90% of us on my high school team played hockey as well. We played soccer a little more rough, but within the rules and the coach wouldn't tolerate diving. He lost his temper when one of our Mexican exchange students fell to the ground yelling "Peniltee, peniltee!" In a practice scrimmage! Jesus never pulled that one again.

I wish refs would call all of it more often. Faking injures while the clock ticks down, flagrantly diving like they broke their tibia only to get up a minute later and sprint down the field on a long ball, goalies holding on too long, going between throwing the ball and kicking it finally. It's brutal to watch.

FIFA probing Team Canada comments after soccer game

International soccer's governing body, FIFA, may discipline members of Team Canada after comments made following a heartbreaking and controversial 4-3 loss to the U.S. in the women's Olympic semifinal game Monday.
The Americans scored the game's tying goal after Norwegian referee Christiana Pedersen penalized Canadian goalkeeper Erin McLeod for holding the ball for more than six seconds.
The call outraged Canadian captain Christine Sinclair, who scored three goals in the game.
"We feel like we didn't lose. We feel like it was taken from us," Sinclair said. "It's a shame in a game like that that was so important, the ref decided the result before it started."
"She'll (Pedersen) have to sleep in bed tonight after watching the replays. She's got that to live with," she said "We'll move on from this. I wonder if she'll be able to."
FIFA said in a release it would investigate the comments with the possibility of disciplinary action.
“Following the Olympic Women's semi-final match between Canada and the USA played at Old Trafford on the evening of 6 August, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee is currently analyzing incidents that occurred after the conclusion of the match," it said in the release.

“Further information will be provided only after the Committee are [sic] in possession of all the elements of the case.”
Canadian coach John Herdman felt for Sinclair after her heroic effort fell short.
"Christine, to come and score a hat trick in a semifinal of an Olympic Games against our biggest rivals and not to come away with something. . . there’s something that isn't right about it," he said.
The U.S. will now face Japan in the final, with Canada facing France on Thursday for the bronze.

I saw only the last en minutes or so. I am therefore, not adamant about my opinion. But, from all I read, there is no question that the delay of game penalty should not have been given. That is a call that is only made in the last few minutes of a game and then only when flagrant. I doubt that a call like this one has ever been made in International Football.

That said, it was in the rules and the Canadian team has not shown sportmanship.

More to the point, was the poor play of the Canadians in some ways. In that last ten minutes there were two corners where the ball went over the middle to an open left wing. Perfectly placed for a left winger or left half to run onto with very good chances of scoring. There were a few other instances of unimaginative play. Something that is common in todsy`s over coached and over organized game.

I don't mind losing fairly at all. I have called penalties on myself in golf many times and have told hockey refs that I caught an edge and wasn't tripped by my opponent. I would rather lose than win unfairly or have a ref hand it to me on a platter. Fair play and integrity are the most important part of sport and obviously your countrymen (and you) lack that.

And they're probing team Canada to boot!
I would definitely be suspended for being very impolite to the ref. The most insane part of this is FIFA is not looking at tape of the ref or investigating alleged high-fives between the ref and a US player but investigating a comment by a Canadian to the effect of "hope you can sleep tonight". FIFA is showing themselves to be complete morons without any concept of fairness.

Of course they are not alone, the NHL, NBA, MLB, & NFL all have policies about criticism of refs even when the mistake is blatant enough to be recognized by people who don't follow the sport.

LMAO... here's a tip... follow the RULES.

Here's a tip....apply the rules evenly and equally!

You should take it like a man Nick.

Do you think I came in here whining after Canada won the golds in Olympic hockey? The only thing I got on someone in here was when they said the US Team should have looked less dejected or something along those lines.

Now the shoe is on the other foot and they're acting like children as are you.

Here's a tip. When a Ref warns you to stop holding the ball for more than 6 seconds a number of times... obey. Canada had the lead and were killing the clock without putting the ball in play.

A.) Obey the rules.

B.) Don't act like children when you lose.

It will also be remember that Abby Wambach was clobbered in the penalty area and ref did not calla PK as she should have. Had she done so USA would have easily converted and won in regulation time.

FIFA is just trying to silence everyone under its jurisdiction in the aftermath of a botched job by its referee on one of the biggest stages of the sport. There is not doubt that the Canadian goaltender Erin McLoed was holding onto the ball marginally longer than 5 seconds allowed under the rules. But this happens ALL the time.. it is one of the 'soft rules' with a wide margin of discretion by the ref. A CNN sports reporter did an in depth search and found the last time the free kick in the 18m box had been awarded for goal tender delay of game in a major tournament or club play was 10 YEARS ago.. in 2002.

In the English Premiership, World Cup and Euro 2012.. in all the major European club leagues.. the Ref. in these situation CAUTIONS.. or Yellow Cards the goaltender for persistent Delay of Game. That's a serious penalty .. because 2 yellow cards means expulsion from the game (without replacement) and 1 game suspension. It virtually always resolves the problem.. without imposing a draconian penalty for a minor violation that could determine the outcome of the game.

I can't overstate what an incompetent idiot this referee (Pedersen) was. She was hounded by U.S. Player Abby Wombach.. who stood by Pedersen and counted off the seconds.. and Pedersen too weak.. and too scared.. NOT to give out the major penalty, or to give a Yellow Card to Wombach for hounding the referee, another FIFA .infraction..She just caved in out of cowardice to the mammoth American sports media machine.

Something else serious happened. When the Free Kick failed... through incidental contact with Canadian defenders she awarded a Penalty Kick.. essentially giving a goal to the Americans.. since it almost always scores. BUT the rule is not incidental contact.. not at 5 meters out when the penalty was aimed directly at the Canadian players to elicit the penalty kick.. it is INTENTIONAL use of the ARMS to block a shot. Look at the video and you'll see the Canadian defenders with arms tucked at their sides and desperately rotating to the avoid contact with a shot deliberately aimed at their bodies to elicit use of arms.. another FIFA infraction.

Go back and see how many times (American goaltender) Solo held the ball for six seconds while waiting for her players to get down field, a major American tactic. So this was selective application of an out of use rule to influence the outcome of the game.

Let me predict what will happen now. The Canadian players will get a subdued WARNING.. and told not to comment any more. This referee who is either a massively incompetent weakling or corrupt.. will never referee a major tournament again. She has embarrassed the organization and will be refereeing non televised backwater pro women's leagues in the future. And this rule will be taken off the books and replaced with the appropriate yellow card that has been in use for decades.

If you want to know if any future game will be refereed well look at the demeanor of the referee prior to the players exiting the tunnel... if he is relaxed, bantering and joking with the captains, when he gets on the field if he (or she).. is taking control of the game.. cautioning and warning players informally to set the parameters of conduct without getting in the way the game... then you'll have a fairly supervised game.

If the referee in the tunnel is intense, silent and giving every appearance of being cowed and out of her depth then she'll get eaten alive out on the field.. and will make huge and stupid mistakes like the penalty shot. She was just a INCOMPETENT twit who let the American players bully her into the calling the game their way.

The Americans didn't cover themselves glory over all this.. in their tactics or their gloating afterwards. They might be one.. or maybe THE best women's soccer team in the world.. BUT.. they got NO CLASS. none at all.. they're bums... GO JAPAN!!!
