Funny I don't see that she's been removed on the wire.

Is it because she was not scheduled to officiate the game to begin with and things are getting desperate?

Is there a link?

It's not exactly a secret.. it's on any number of websites

NEWSTALK 1010 - IN-DEPTH RADIO :: Controversial Ref Left Off the Pitch For Medal Games - Local News :: Local News Stories

Also, Christine Sinclair and other Canadian players will NOT be penalized for their remarks after the game. Another acknowledgement from FIFA that they had a case.

And FIFA will never admit a mistake.. that's not what bureaucracies do.. but you can read between the lines of these two events and see where they stand. They review and critique every refs performance after every game... and Pedersen is gone.. with likely a severe handicap to her career of officiating in any other major tournament of a Global scale. Bureaucracies don't like controversy either.

My guess is she received a confidential reprimand.. quite devastating for career prospects.

No, it really isn't.

Sour grapes. A bunch of poor sports that's all. USA won and now you're acting like children. Too bad.

"It was an especially disappointing loss, cause we always want to beat the U.S.,” said Robyn Lockwood of Old Ottawa South. “Makes it a little more bitter when it’s (against) the U.S., I think, when we lose.”

Robyn pretty much summed it up what is going on in here.

Good luck in the Bronze medal game!

When you wish to put together a team in any sport, your success will mostly hinge on how large a group of players you have to draw from. Brings to mind the former USSR's ability to have nearly as many people in their Hockey program as we have people in our total population. Then measure our success against them.
Canada is an upstart in Soccer, a kid that just started playing if you will. Gee i wonder why nations with 10 or 100 times or more our population do not have 10 times our medal count?

The 'stomp' didn't look very accidental to me. Maybe the 'intent' was to come down on her back or shoulder but still, pretty sad behavior.

The British are getting one over their great sporting rivals - Australia.

It shows something of Australia's mind set with respect to Swimming that they have set up a National Commission to probe into the 'underachievement' of their swimming team in the London games.. and propose ways to improve. Australian swimmers won only one gold medal — in a relay — six silver and three bronze for the country’s lowest Olympic medal tally in swimming since Barcelona in 1992. Australia also failed to win an individual Gold medal in swimming for the first time since 1972. But that's about equal to Canada's total for the whole Games... and there's has a distinct silvery tinge.. whereas ours is bronzy in tint.

Ah, the old population card..........this article might shine some light on that comment.

Olympics:*PHL is 3rd most populous nation without a medal; tiny Grenada tops gold to population ratio | GMA News Online | The Go-To Site for Filipinos Everywhere

"But tiny countries have defied the population odds. An alternative way of judging success in the Olympics is the gold medal/population ratio of the country. With runner Kirali James winning the men’s 400m race, Grenada tops this list with one gold medal for approximately 100,000 residents. This is incidentally the entire population of country."

Yes, I agree that it does acknowledge her poor job in that game, as in hockey such remarks after a game,
or any other time would constitute a heavy 'fine', since these players are amateurs, no such penalty,
but I thought for sure they would be suspended, good on them for turning a blind eye and moving on, as
a suspension would have been piling mistake upon mistake.

Just glad to hear that Canada will be able to compete against France with our full complement of players. Apparently FIFA has reserved their decision so it will be interesting to see what happens when they do make one. Way past time to move beyond this. Canada added two more Bronze and a Silver to bring their medal count to 14 so far today.

GO, CANADA, GO! :canada:

That shows that we have also defied the population odds compared to the big boys. I said medal count not just gold. Pizz poor analogy IMO. Over the long term Canada does very well with arguably less government support and population than many nations. Do you have a problem with that?

Any way you look at it I'd call Canada's performance an absolute embarrassment in the summer games, but this is typical. Vancouver 2010 was stellar (most golds) but the summer games always seem to be a disappointment for Canada.

yeah the bronze thing is getting a bit tiresome.. not that its any small achievement.. it just seems there should be more of an equitable distribution over the elements. We were at 18 medals.. three gold in Beijing... I'm pretty sure we'll match the 18.. i'm not sure we'll get the 3 in London.

That's not the overall list. That is by golds. Overall medals Canada is about 12th. Prorated by population we're probably first. On a per capita basis the US needs about 150 medals to match us. And China about 700.

I don't know why they're arranging by gold medals because that essentially makes the other medals meaningless.

what canada 'has' done, not 'hasn't' done is important, the coming and going of athletes from one olympics
to the next will change the number.

for our population we do just fine, and calling it embarrassing is embarrassing, for any of us to sit on our
butts and say we are embarrassed is ridiculous, be proud of the athletes, it is what it is, and the effort is the key, and I see canada improving each
olympics, and vancouver was a big and exciting time for our olympics, and created much more interest,
from athletes as well as government.

we have always done much better in the winter olympics, pretty typical seeing we are a northern country.
