Using the argument of "superiority is specious at best. Most countries feel that way, and if you feel it's not in argument, then why bring it up.

America, and the MWS' beliefs, not in argument. Only one of those is actually comparable anyways.

The American stereotype, is nationalistic.

The MWS is racial.

In the end it matters not where the "superiority" stems from. The fact is that it is not unusual for a Country or an organization to feel that way. IN reality, it's not an unusual trait for mankind period.

I agree.

It's in how it manifests itself that fault can be found.

I used to favor gun control. Then my neighborhood changed. When I tried to stop a gangbanger from dealing dope in front of my house he knocked my teeth out. Now I am armed to the teeth quite literally and I have become deadly at twenty feet.

Same thread as you. They have contributed nothing, (see colpy's list of awards), they are oppressive and racist. WWII has been brought up as an example of what Japan is.

Oh yes, and according to skook, they are a country that does not deserve defending of any kind. Obviously from the comments, Japan is no better than Iran or Syria.

Since you apparently did not know that Japan and particularly the upper class are virulently racist and that i did not refer to any other state, nor did i phrase my words to indicate "not deserve defending of any kind", i will not argue that. But, nice try.

I too was impressed with some aspects of their culture but i would not live there. The most dangerous humans are often quite polite and a dog barking loudly behind a fence is seldom a threat.

Wow, just wow. I guess some in here feel the world would be a better place if the yanks had just nuked the entire nation. Considering they have contributed so little in the past 60 plus years.

Nah... We just needed two Gerry. Don't want over kill know what I mean? :)

I never encountered any form of discrimination or racism in Japan. In fact, I got the distinct feeling that some Japanese women were intrigued by me, especially when I held open doors or insisted the ladies exit the elevator first. They'd hold their hands to their mouth and giggle like I was being extremely flirtatious. From what I observed, Japanese men do not have a sense of chivalry...

That is because women are treated badly in Japan.

Maybe they just thought you were funny looking?

I can honestly say that I enjoyed my time in Japan, nearly everyone I met was friendly. I never felt threatened or unsafe at at any time... day or night. I can't make these claims about any other country.

My Japanese manager was extremely kind and generous. I encountered several examples of scrupulous integrity and random acts of kindness.

Yes I am convinced that Japanese culture is more civilized... although too controlled for my taste. I'd go back if I had a chance.

The too controlled part is what makes it seem so "civilized" in appearances.

From what I know of the Japanese culture, it's that "civilized" part that makes me shudder. As for respect for their elders... is that respect or obedience? Every generation has psychological baggage and intentionally or unintentionally they tend to dump it on the next. That old "respect" for elders was simply young people not being able to challenge, to rebel, to tackle that baggage, build their own way, and figure out just a few things that the previous generation hadn't, and so on. To me progress towards greater freedom, greater opportunity for each individual to be all they can be, now that's civilized!
