National Aboriginal Day events are held in every region across Canada. Activities and events include (but are not limited to):

  • Summer solstice festivals.
  • Barbecue fundraisers.
  • Social networking gatherings with traditional and contemporary music, dance and singing.
  • Sacred fire extinguishing ceremonies.
  • Traditional feasts, which may include fry bread and moose stew.
  • The cutting of a cake to honor National Aboriginal Day.
National Aboriginal Day in Canada gives people of all walks of life the opportunity to celebrate and share knowledge about the Aboriginal peoples’ values, customs, languages, and culture.

I believe that's throat singing, an Inuit practise.

On Indian day why don't we do what the Indians actually do. Like smoke crack and run casinos and sometime all at once.

I think smoking crack is what the oilpatch workers do, and the natives don't RUN the casinos, that's usually hired out to American companies with ties to organized crime.

Nothing quite says hello like spewing a little stereotype, right newbie? We already have a resident troll who spews anti-native stereotypes and rhetoric, so unfortunately the positions been filled.

It's not about north-south-east-west-right-left-innie-outie-black-gold-red-or-white. It's about bigoted assholes. Love the fact the west is prospering. Hate the fact that assholes think they should have it all their way and all to themselves

I can't believe how racist and utterly stupid people will claim to be "Conservative". No Conservative group would claim such people. This guy is another of the stereotypical Alberta racists, like my cousin who decided to cut off all contact with me, because I proved that his mother was 1/4 Native.

As he said, "You ruined my memory of my mother". And he was a retired Crown Attorney!

Unfortunately, this is a prevailing attitude among about 10% of the residents of Alberta. Amazingly, most of them are NOT long term families there, but relatively new comers who know nothing about aboriginal cultures.

If you say so.

The Great Northern Casino is owned by the publicly traded Gamehost Income Fund (TSX-V: GH.UN) and located in the City of Grande Prairie next to the 123-room Service Plus Inns & Suites Hotel. It has been constructed in the style of an old western town both inside and out. The casino is becoming more widely known as a destination entertainment facility for the northern areas of Alberta and British Columbia.

The Boomtown casino is located in downtown Fort McMurray in the Peter Pond Shopping Mall. The site provides a 'front-street' location as well as ample parking and reportedly cost $800,000 to construct. It is owned by the publicly traded Gamehost Income Fund (TSX-V: GH.UN).

The western-themed Casino Yellowhead is located in a northern industrial area of the City of Edmonton near the busy east-west Yellowhead Trail. It is
reportedly one of the largest casinos in the province. It is also the largest of the four Alberta casinos privately owned by Heinz Oldach’s Casino ABS.

I know,I was just wasteing your time, hope you had fun looking all that up!
That's time out of your life I just wasted, something you will never get back. lol!

I prefer the native casinos myself, you can smoke in those not like the whitey gambling spots.

Good to know you wasted all that time googling it though, this is too easy.

Come get some then, mind you that there will be work involved.
The people who made Alberta prosperous are not slackers, you work for your money out here.
Lots for everyone, just dont expect it to be served to you on a silver platter.
If that makes us assholes then so be it,the west wasn't settled by peeps looking for a handout but peeps willing to work hard for a good life.

Natives are another matter, untill folks learn about their history and way of life then there will never be an understanding between them and us kablunaks.

It took me a couple years living with the Innuit before I saw this.
And there is no real spelling in Inuktitut, just wanted to point that out before bear jumps on me for spelling Inuit wrong in his ignorant eyes.

If he ever spent time with them he would know this, unfortunately he has not.
This is one of the reasons Inuktitut is one of the hardest languages in the world to master,it changes from village to village.
