I think it will be a close one but I also think that Obama may get his second term. However if the Wisconsin recall election is any indication on how Blue States are feeling there could be trouble for the President.
In Canada, the spending spike is blamed on the recession.
In the U.S., the spending is blamed on the president.

The political playing fields in America and Canada are very dissimilar. There really is no comparing the two in any honest sense. You folks have your way and we Americans have ours.

I have to agree. I also have to admit that I am unfamiliar with Parliamentary elections and Canadian Provincial elections. But our liberals and conservatives seem to have the same views although some say our liberals would be Canadian conservatives. One need only listen to our liberals and see that they are very much in line with Canadian Liberals. Canadian Conservatives seem center and just right of center... like many conservatives here in the US.
If Obama is elected they will respond just as they did the last election I would assume. However the political landscape has changed since his last Presidential election. When Obama came to office the Democrats controlled both houses of Congress. The GOP had no power to stop the Democrats or Obama from doing anything they wanted. It wasn't until the 2010 Congressional Elctions did the GOP regain the House of Representatives and gained enough Senate seats to keep the Democrats from having a Super Majority. If you are a Democrat President and the Democrats have full control of the Congress (or visa versa) you get to do a lot more of what you want... in theory. If you have a split Congress you have to make compromises.
We both vote for politicians and they are pretty well all tarred with the same brush! Sometimes I vote for Tweedledee and sometimes for Tweedledumb. :lol:
I think politics in Canada may be much saner than ours are. In any event, Obama may be seen in history as the father of radical conservatism in America. By the time Bush's presidency ended the conservative movement in America had been virtually destroyed by his Big Govt. Conservatism.
If Obama had played his cards right he could have preempted the rebirth of a new form of conservatism. But he didn't play his cards right. Instead he literally conjured up a new way of conservative thinking.
What's even more amazing is that the Republican Party doesn't seem to be able to capitalize on this new way of thinking. Otherwise Mitt Romney wouldn't be the Republican nominee. If Romney is elected president he will have a hard time satisfying folks like me. But by that point in time Obama would be history.

What America has become is an insult to the men and women who created it in the first place. It isn't free anymore and the wealthy and the priviledged are calling almost all the shots.
MEUs are highly capable and staffed by some really good people, too bad that politically the US is rotten to the core.

I'm not agreeing with the radical part but he definitely aided in the GOPs comeback. In 2006 the GOP was swept from Congress and the Dems took back the White House in 2008 and even more of Congress.
All the GOP could do is watch until 2010.
He could have but it was not entirely his fault... the Democrat controlled Congress had a big hand in the GOP comeback. The GOP was on life support and the Dems and their supporters said the GOP was finished and will be going the way of the Whigs... extinct. It was that atttude and boasting and historical spending that did themselves in. I'm sure the GOP was laughing as the Dems were doing the GOPs work for them during the first two years of the Obama Presidency.
Romney... a good candidate but not a Reagan that is for sure. That may be the reason Obama gets a second term.
The US has been touted as the last remaining superpower for two decades, which was my point. Some nations militaries have more men, the US has the greatest combat capability on a global scale and probably spends the most money...and has done the greatest damage in the last decade.

The main threat wasn't even from a conventional military source and it took almost a decade to get the bastard.
The US is still funding it's military at a Cold War level or above and its largely Pentagon driven foreign policy is creating more enemies than it neutralizes. All those weapons are probably going to be of some use as a build-up on one side usually triggers an arms race, but we're all going to suffer the consequences. The defence sector is going to continue to get rich while the US becomes more and more unstable from incredible mounting debt and an escalating dependence on military solutions to situations that can often be avoided or solved in other ways.
What's the saying, "If your only tool is a hammer, then you tend to see all problems as a nail" or something to that effect.
The US wasn't intended to be run by it's military, one of it's greatest Presidents Eisenhower warned us of the dangers more than fifty years ago.
He'll likely win so long as the vote counts are not rigged. But it will be close.

Only remaining superpower kind of sounds like the worlds largest military to me.
Like I said some nations may have more personnel, but no nation has the military capabilities of the US or spends as much...although Russia and China are starting to to try and keep up.
I guess if you're paranoid then you can treat the entire world as a threat and build a military to "defend" against it. The US military is being built to deal with almost any theoretical threat and has been used in the last decade in a preemptive war against a nation that wasn't really a threat. While the nation slides ever deeper into debt the same companies are making huge profits, someday those bills will come due and the US will be left with few options, one of the main ones being military action because it invested so heavily in that area.
