Ford Engine coils.

My son has informed me that his Ford pickup (late 1990s) is having engine coil problems, he says each cylinder has a separate coil, which to dumb old me sounds absolutely ludicrous. In the old days when the coil gave up the ghost you bought a new one for $15 and were on your way. Is this standard practice in vehicles nowadays or did he just buy a lemon?

I'm looking at a 1966 Chev 283 V8 with a 4 speed. I can crawl right in the compartment and stand beside the motor while fixing tit. I can actually rebuild the carb myself. Not too impressed with new teck in vehicles. With $10 thou worth of electronic, computerized gizmos, I bet the new trucks don't get much better mileage to justify the expense.

I drove a '65 Pontiac Parisienne with a 283 V8 for years, one of the best cars I ever had.

you're kidding right? and you bitch about GG and how people live etc..... and you're going to buy a machine that not only dumps out copious amounts of co's and co2's but also NOx.... Always wondered about the hypocrisy level with you cliffy.... now I don't need to wonder any more.

And btw jlm, its called distributorless ignition system.

I'm going to find out next weekend, Cliffy, as I'll be pulling my 5th wheel to Calgary and back with a new Ford F-250, but I'm sure of one thing..........the gas mileage will be an improvement over my old truck (1990 F-250), lots more guts too. Grandson is graduating from grade 12.

OK, that would make sense. These new fangled vehicles baffle me. When I open the hood I'm not sure which component is the engine... :lol:
