JLM, there are assessments from credible watchdogs (yes, one of the few parts of government you actually endorse) that confirm that OAS is sustainable.

Have you been following this story?

Old Age Security affordable without changes, watchdog says - Politics - CBC News

He basically says there is no need to raise the age from 65 to 67.

How credible is Page? I don't see him considering the entire picture. I would say it's impossible to predict the amount and sources of money by 2023. Has he even considered the addition healthcare costs for an increasing population living into their 80s and 90s? I think a smart person would allow for a worst case scenario and then if by some miracle there is enough funds at that time, they can let up a bit at that time.

It's a conspiracy theory! Deliberatly hiding readily available information.

Whatever readily available information there is about the state of financial affairs in 2023!

It's not a conspiracy. It's a lack of transparency.
You are flat out claiming a conspiracy to withold information. All the information used to compile the draft are readily available to the public as it is. Look them up and take notes. Write you own report using that information. I'll read it when you're done.

How credible is Page?

Very.

"By 2030, the size of the economy is going to be more than double, and budgetary revenues will double. You cannot argue the government has a fiscal sustainability problem."
Toronto-based economist Dale Orr, who follows fiscal issues closely, agreed with Page that elderly benefits are sustainable.

"Compared to other countries, Canada is in very good shape fiscally," he said, noting that elderly benefits represent a small slice of the economic pie.

Ottawa is also in better position to absorb the OAS cost increases because, in December, it acted on future health costs, pegging increases to economic growth plus inflation, Page said.

Old Age Security: Budget Watchdog Says Government Pensions Sustainable In Long Term

You are flat out claiming a conspiracy to withold information.

Oh shutup.

You either have confidence in your policy based on facts and figures or you don't.

It's not a conspiracy.

The credibility is burned the very moment that the author employs intangible measures like 'affordability'.

What is affordable to some is not to others, but in the bigger picture, Canada has a shrinking population and there is a large demographic hitting retirement (read: less income tax dollars in to support mote outflows).

Only a fool would not be alarmed by this basic circumstance

Yea, your credibility trumps the same guy that caught the conservatives for withholding $10 Billion in F-35 costs from the public.

Give me a break.

It's clear you don't even care about fiscal policy, you're just posturing.

It's not about owing something. It's about how much you care about others.

For my part, I will never even contribute to OAS, so it doesn't matter to me. However, there are people who've already begun contributing, that have no other options available to them. Let's not forget that OAS benefits low-income earners the most, so now they will have to work an extra two years. This can be extremely grueling for people who are in labour intensive positions.

Do we care for these people or do we let them suffer?

You got a problem with people looking out for themselves? This freeloading off of over taxed working people has got to stop.

Well put C.M. Looking at pensions in isolation is not very practical. We have a million (more or less) students in Quebec wanting their education paid for and going on a rampage. It seems every Canadian wants more, so who is left to pay for it?

That's your opinion. I have no problem with allowing people to have this opportunity on my dime.

.. And the F-35's have what to do with OAS?

Stay on topic Flossy or start a new thread on the other issue. (Oh wait, you have started half a dozen on that issue)

Give me a break.

Reread what I just posted on the retirement circumstance Flossy. It doesn't take a genius to figure that one out.

.. And that is the critical question...

Kudos to you JLM

In context, the highest costs come from healthcare and the revenue comes from GDP. Equalization and transfer payments were also taken into consideration.

I know reading comprehension is difficult for you, but it was regarding his credibility.

He's credible.

You're not.

GDP will potentially drop as the boomers get out of the game, non?

Interesting comment on equalization payments. Considering that the oil/gas industry is the sole sector paying into that program (at present), what does Flossy think will happen when your messiah Mulcair gets in and decimates the industry? Connect the dots on this one, any idea what the effect on GDP and transfer payments will be?

Here's a hint: GREECE

Which assumption do you want to handle first?

Gladly?
Hard earned cash?
Or too lazy to fend for themselves?

Yeah all the deadbeat hippies will be out of the work force and on the dole because they smoked up their pay cheques when they had the chance to set themselves up for the future.
