I don't necessarily disagree with that, but it depends on how much the difference is, the qualifications of the person, and the category of employment that they are referred.
I was a licensed welder/fitter, certified explosives handler, first aider, mine rescue, heavy equipment operator. With training in PLC programming, electrical/electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics and heavy equipment repair.

I packed cosmetics for 6 months, you don't get any further from my qualifications than that.

That's primarily why we are having this discussion about what qualifies "suitable employment" for EI members wanting to get back into the workforce. It's more complex than the conservatives are painting it to be, like "there are no bad jobs" (except public service jobs according to them, lol).
There are no bad jobs if you aren't full of yourself.

It would have to be the same job or something similar as I'm working on particular career path. If I had scant options, I would accept up to 5K less in pay.
I was working on a career path, I took an almost $40,000 pay cut, and packed cosmetics while I looked for better work.

Suitable employment is what you can do to get off the dole.

No, that's my opinion of what suitable employment would be. I would like to know what the government dictates is suitable employment, but we haven't received any definition yet.
I hope it's nothing like your definition.

That's easy for your son, who's used to working in that kind of volatile environment. You can't expect the same degree of flexibility for someone who works in a highly specialized field.
Why not?

That's why the government needs to clarify what these measures are instead of relying on "joe blow" arguments of who deserves what.
And elitest arguments are better why?

I know a few people dealing a little dope to pay the bills a call centre/fast-food wage doesn't cover. Is that a bad job?
The last time I was out of work, I sold contraband smokes. I still do actually. I just don't deal in the same volume.

So, I just finished listening to Jason Kenney on Power and Politics talking about immigration policy. Apparently, he wants to ensure that engineers and doctors that come overseas aren't getting jobs as taxi drivers.

Short memory, huh?
