Now that is ideal way to raise a family. Daddy is more like an occasional visitor. But hey! Being a slave to the system and supporting the rich requires sacrifices. Did you get your share of trickle down money today?

More ideal than going hungry! Some outfits work 30 days and are home for 20.

Don't know your family but it is a general rule of thumb among psychiatrists and psychologists that the nuclear family is dysfunctional. The extended family is more natural to our species.

Are you sure that psychiatrists and psychologists aren't dysfunctional?

I guess I'm natural.

As long as you keep eating that head cheese!

When they refuse a job because the pay isn't what they want.

I don't necessarily disagree with that, but it depends on how much the difference is, the qualifications of the person, and the category of employment that they are referred.

That's primarily why we are having this discussion about what qualifies "suitable employment" for EI members wanting to get back into the workforce. It's more complex than the conservatives are painting it to be, like "there are no bad jobs" (except public service jobs according to them, lol).

The burning question is "how can taking a job temporarily that they are capable of performing, be any worse than sitting on their ass doing nothing"?

Because, collectively, if everyone is downgraded to worse jobs, it's bad for the economy. Worse in fact, than the cost of EI.

I think we are talking "different jobs" moreso than "worse jobs", but even if you are right if it was permanent, in the short term it would be better as at least it would allow people to continue spending. Sitting on one's ass doing nothing, accomplishes absolutely nothing, with the rare exception of hemmorhoids.

I wouldn't make the foolhardy assumption that all EI recipients are sitting on their ass, doing nothing. That is a stereotype that is not based on any empirical evidence.

I should have said "doing nothing to improve their financial status".

Beats hell out of collecting welfare.

No, because you're still assuming that people are not proactively searching for a "suitable job" with the time that they have available to them. It's a bit of an insult to all of us in this country, that people like you actually believe that most of us are freeloaders and incompetent.

You are blowing this discussion far beyond my original intent. People collectively are better off working at something than working at nothing. While drawing E.I. may keep the wolf from the door temporarily, it's still a drain on the country.

As long as they are choosing a suitable job for their qualification level and experience.

It's less of a drain than employing people into unsuitable positions because you just want to poop them off EI.
