BTW, the road I was on was public access and ran through and accessed several cattle ranches and free range areas, as well as camping and recreational areas. It was a very old road that was maintained by the forest ministry.

My family used to own the "Inn on the border" on the BC border and the only roads in were on the cp ROW or a 20 mile drive through some rough bush,CP told us they were going to rip out the crossing and remove their access road that had been used for over 100 years unless we paid $100,000 a year to maintain a controlled crossing.Took a lot of wrangling to get them to leave the road in.

WAS!!! If today it's locked "right of way" will be lost even if it's in or out of public lands. WWF does this **** all the ****ing time. They buy up as much land as possible that surrounds pubic lands then cuts off access and eventually the "right of way" to the public lands.

Forest companies learned this from the greenies.

Got that right, they do it here too, some of our gates have over 20 different locks on them.

There are a lot of hunters in SK who ****ed themselves over by donating to wildlife orgs in belief they were pro-hunter like Ducks Unlimited and they just rip down the gates with tractors and cross over the closed lands anyway.

DU is pretty hunter friendly where I was at in Sask, all the pipeliners get treated very well from them also as they get lots of donations from the oil companies.

Just have to add here that forest companies have had a serious problem with criminals and vandals trashing expensive equipment. Sometimes hotwiring excavators or tree farmers, creating havoc, danger to themselves and huge costs.
Years ago the problem was solved partially by persons with a legitimate interest providing ID, vehicle license plate info and paying 25 bucks for a key. That changed when Weyerhauser bought MacBlo and upped the ante to 500 bucks plus proof of one million liability (fire) insurance to gain entry. Essentially ending the opportunity for many placer miners to operate.
I had keys to a many gates here on the Island, my free miners license was integral to that and we loved it as we could then park our vehicle all day without worrying that it would be broken into or vandalized.

This does not excuse forestry companies from arbitrarily locking all access roads, there should be other remedies looked into.

Ever been to a DU fall fowl dinner? If you like to eat birds there is nothing finer.
No but our whole crew went, the oil company we were working for sent a limo to pick the boys up and it sounds like it was a good time.Lots of rifles for sale.

The reason I said "was" is that I haven't been up there in 30 years and don't know what is going on now.

Good thing that is a pellet rifle. She could take out an eye if it had any recoil.

Be very very very careful in what you wish for when it comes to the "green agenda".

If in SK this fall check out a DU or Sask Wildlife Federation fall dinner. The food is diverse and incredibly well done.

For sure we do,people on quads too are causing lots of damage in the back country and lately we have had problems here with kids shooting out the remote h2s sensors so more gates, more cross ditches in roads and less and less public access. When I worked the fireline for the lost creek forest fire here I was told on my way out to drag as many fallen trees and crap onto the road so a quad, dirtbike or hiker could never use the road again and lots of these are old existing logging roads that have been here 60 years or longer.

I don't support or belong to any organization. I am my own green agenda. I have my own ways of messing with the pillagers' agenda.
Are you a tree spiker? Those ****ers killed over 50 innocent men and women and have crippled and maimed hundreds more

I wonder if some cameras strategically located would identify the perps? Cheaper than patrols even if you lose a few cams. Move the cams around to target problem areas.
If the justice system ever quits pandering to stupid and makes vandals pay back every cent of the damage there would a lot less problems.
Oh, wait, never thought of a surge of "rights violations" from peeps taking a leak or each other;-)

Where the hell did that come from?
