Hmm, then lets open the constitution. First thing on the agenda: Scrap the notwithstanding clause.

I fully agree:

Second, add property rights

Third, remove all references to multiculturalism. I take it back.....that should be first.

Then change the rule that allows PEI to be over-represented in the HOC because of the way the Senate works. Harper wants Senate reform anyway. Opening the constitution is likely the only way to actually get it.

Now probably isnt the time. But in a few years we might as well. The constitution will have to be opened again someday by someone. The longer we put it off the bigger the mess it'll be.

Along with Quebec losing seats - proportion over the next 20 years due to population shifts west of Ontario. How well would that go over?

Quebecers will not vote for separatism when it is made plain to them that there will be no more equalization payments. and no more government contracts or taxpayer subsidizing their industries.

Not well at all, but I'm fine with that idea. Representation by population is what it should be. There is too much disparity between ridings when it comes to their populations. The fathers of Confederation were willing to compromise on just about everything to get that deal in the 1860s.

I Harper does his job and both opposition parties do there's the people will be interested in the
issues facing the nation and breaking up won't be the main issue. The leadership outcome will
see the Bloc looking for a reason to exist again.
Most younger people in Quebec are looking for jobs and a future, they want a home and an family
and education for their kids first just like the rest of us. In the long term I don't think the issues
will be the number one issue.

If there was ever an argument for constitutional reform, this may be it.

Canada might see fit that we need to change things if we want Quebec to stay. If we care enough, we might have to give them reform.

Of course, this all depends on whether the Bloc can ever have enough power to enforce a referendum. If Quebec continues to support the NDP, this will be a non-issue.

Cannot recall what the sticking point was on Meech lake - Was it the Distinct Society? Simple enough - Then make the First Nations, English and French recognized as Distinct Societies and as the 3 founding nations in Canada.
But Quebec will want more than that.

Quebec can want what it wants, but they need the Bloc to lead in order for it to make a difference. Now that the NDP and Bloc are essentially at the same position, we'll see what kind of power the sovereigntists have in a few months.

If they do amend and everyone signs off then the right to secede should be revoked for all Provinces.

Since the NDP tried to kill Canadian jobs involving Keystone and the Conservatives is sending a message to the private sector that it's ok to reduce the pensions who will vote for them, the Liberals is the only viable party.
