I am not saying that the colony or base would not be yours, but the problem is that arrogance seems to be something of a trait as people automatically assume the worst out of everyone, As given by this post. The question i was posing was, IF america did build a station on the moon, 'And it will be american' ; I was looking for he justification or rather a reiteration of the sentence given and quoted in the article, Is the man staking claim on the moon as being strictly American?

If the Americans build a moon base it will be American. If the Chinese build a moon base that base will be Chinese.

Why now isn't that an arrogant thing to say? It's not a matter of the base being american- Hell It could be built by the polish for all i care; What i care about is the implications that America would be in control of the moon. Especially when one takes the idea that he believes the moon can become a State. Isn't that interesting?

Newt didn't say the moon would be a state.

This is what he said...

"By the end of my second term, we will have the first permanent base on the Moon, and it will be American," he told supporters at a rally on Wednesday.

Then the insecure ones go around saying the Yanks are trying to claim the moon.

That is what i was referring to. So why don't you take a moment to step away from the Pride and prejudice for a moment, and reflect on the actions of your government over the last few decades and ask your self which is the more arrogant?

Just saying.

One need only listen to you and decide. Just because you're insecure doesn't mean we're arrogant.

Time to drop all the patriotic BS and realize that any off planet colonization would require world wide support. That would mean a one world government.

I understand work has already begun on the moon project.

Every Republican and Democrat nominee for the Presidency has promised something like this (manned moon base, manned expedition to Mars.. etc.).. hoping to garner a little of the glitter of Kennedy's Camelot and Space Race to their campaign. And then they quickly forget it if they get in office.

Quite frankly a Space Program is a natural outcome of a prosperous, industrial, scientific society with equitably shared wealth.. brimming with optimism and idealism. The U.S. is not ANY of these things any more.

It is in an advanced state of idustrial, scientific and moral decay (as Canada is). Poverty is becoming an omnipresent threat in all classes of society except the super rich involved in predatory trade and financial practices. It is inundated with pessimism and confusion. Not only is a Space Program an unaffordable luxury in a society like this.. it is an impossibility.

And if AMerryka would undertake a moon base where would uncle broke for ever get the money?
Precisely! Only a world wide effort could afford such an enterprise. Also, Lonewolf was correct. It would take the combined genius of all of humanity to make it work. I don't see that kind of cooperation unless we get to a one world government. Whether or not we end up with a one world Big Brother government is something we will have to be diligent about.

No but it does mean that Newt believes it is territory that the US can take.

Yes, I would think if we did have the money and technology to set up a moon base we should have every right too do so.

It's not anybodies territory... it's the moon for crying out loud. Who has the authority to give us permission?

Shouldn't that read two trillion? Perhaps Iraq and Afghanistan would advance a loan?

Then 2 Trillion it is. We don't have it nor should we blow it on a moon base if we did.

Time to drop all the patriotic BS and realize that any off planet colonization would require world wide support. That would mean a one world government.

Financially I would have to agree. But if a number of countries pooled resources for a moon base, countries not involved should have no say whatsoever.

I'm not arguing who has what authority. I merely pointed out that Newt thinks it can or should be a state, making your claim false.
