I watched the edmonton game tonight, they played great, but last night they got blitzed by dallas, who
hit them and hit them hard all thru the game, exposed their 'light' side, they do need some tougher
players along with all of those great skaters to balance the team, and I don't mean fighters, I mean
hard, tough strong physical players who don't get knocked down so much, but can still play well.

Yeah, those leafs only had one way to go and that was 'up', looks like they are.

I kind of followed the score while I was bowling, they played better than I bowled.

Preview Teams playing well collide as Canucks visit Coyotes Matthew Mankiewich - NHL.com Stats
Last 10: Vancouver 6-4-0; Phoenix 6-3-1

Season series: They start a new set of four after following an interesting pattern the past three seasons. Last season the visiting team won every game, whereas the home team won each game the season before that, and in 2008-09, the teams split at each venue.

Big story: Both teams come in playing well, the Canucks having won five of seven, the Coyotes four of six. Vancouver finds itself in an unusual position after a slow start, six points out of first, but much of that has to do with the Minnesota Wild's incredible play out of the gate. Save for sputtering Anaheim, the Pacific Division is its usual scrunched-up self, the 'Yotes two points behind the division-leading Sharks and the Stars and Kings sandwiched in between.

Team scope:

Canucks: Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Avalanche was the 247th under coach Alain Vigneault, putting him ahead of Marc Crawford for the honor of all-time winningest coach in franchise history. He did it in 98 fewer games than Crawford as well. Of course, Crawford maintains a 1-0 lead in Stanley Cup rings.

What may be more important, however, is what this win means in terms of this season. One year prior, a 4-2 win over the Avs sent the Canucks on an unprecedented 17-1-2 run and the pinnacle of the NHL. While it might be a reach to expect a repeat performance, the signs of a turnaround are there.

Goalie Cory Schneider came up with a perfect performance, stopping 24 shots and stirring the goaltending controversy between him and Roberto Luongo just a little more.

"He made some incredible saves, some highlight-reel saves, but more importantly, he made the saves we expect him to make," Manny Malhotra said of Schneider. "When you have that kind of confidence in your goalie, a lot of good things are going to happen."

Coyotes: Radim Vrbata isn't too particular about who goes in nets, as he's been scoring on everybody. He scored twice in Wednesday's win over Anaheim, has five goals in his last three games and 11 in the first 20 this season. It took till his 49th game last season to score his 11th goal.

"You need some luck to score goals in this league and right now I'm getting a little bit of luck," said Vrbata, who had a goal and an assist against the Canucks last season.

"(Vrbata) is a clever guy," coach Dave Tippett said. "He plays a smart game, finds the openings and creates some opportunities."

Who's hot: Vrbata takes care of things on one end of the ice and Mike Smith handles the other. He's 8-1-1 with a 1.87 goals-against average in his last 10 games. He has only one start against the Canucks, however, a 2-1 loss on Nov. 6, 2006 while a member of the Dallas Stars. Shane Doan has 2 goals and 2 assists in his last five games. ... Canucks points leader Daniel Sedin has 6 points in his last six games, but they're all assists.

Injury report: Luongo backed up Schneider on Wednesday after missing the last three games with an upper-body injury. Defenseman Keith Ballard (back) has missed two straight games, while Andrew Ebbett sits out with a fractured foot. Mason Raymond (broken vertebrae) continues to practice without a set timetable, as does Michal Rozsival on the Coyotes' side (upper body). Daymond Langkow has missed seven straight games due to a death in the family, but is expected back Friday.

Kyle Turris will not be available just yet for Phoenix after signing a two-year, $2.8 million deal on Tuesday, as he will go to AHL Portland for a conditioning assignment.

Stat pack: The Coyotes are 5-1-1 in games where Vrbata has scored and 6-5-2 when he hasn't. His power-play goal Wednesday snapped a 1-for-24 drought.

Puck drop: "You're talking about my Spidey senses? I always believe in this group. It's a very responsible, professional, mature group. I do think we're on the right track." -- Vigneault in the Vancouver Sun on whether he feels the team is on the cusp of a turnaround similar to last season

yes, canucks look good, a complete team feeling comfortable because of their confidence in their goalie.

I know luongo was suppose to play tomorrow, and they do have to get him back in there, BUT after these

last two games, I would lke to be a fly on the wall in that coaches room.

Schneider has played four in a row now, and tomorrow is the back to back, so that is the only reason I

can see them deciding to play luongo. If they do, and Luongo lays an egg, then their decision about who

starts is pretty easy for a while, and we would finally be at the place I mentioned some time ago, 'that

luongo will decide if he is the 'guy' or not' in time, but he has to be given that time to play himself

into second place, or keep his starting spot, this seems to be the time.

But we do have to have two goalies, not one, neither one of them should play all of the games.

Kesler looked better tonight, and I was glad to see booth get a goal, he has come so close so many tmes,

he needed that.

The league is so so close this season, any team can win, goalies are looking good on all of the teams

who are playing well.

What is your guess on the final score Kreskin 5-0 , 4-0, 6-1, for the right answer, look at

the back page of next weeks news letter. lol

I saw 5-0. I'm not trying not to ignore them, I just can't get into hockey right now.

I think I understand what you said, not sure if you said it just the way you wanted though.

I'm enjoying the hockey as well as ever, but different. I'm not focusing on just canucks, i've got a
few other teams I 'sort of' call mine too, so I just float around the NHL to watch all of my teams.

I can't get into wanting to repeat anything that happened last year, i'm not interested in gettng that
hyper and emotional about the outcome of canucks year, just one game at a time for me, and whatever
happens, happens, i'm cool with that.

Tomorrows game against san jose should be a very tough game, I think san jose are better this year than
they have been over the past five years, and I also think they are very very fed up with coming out
third best, and I see a determination from them that we should probably take very seriously.

If Canucks go there tomorrow and 'win', then they can take themselves very seriously too.

Vancouver seems to be getting it together. They don't seem to have a weak line that is a liability.
Part of that is that the forwards are coming back consistantly. The Canucks breaking out of
their own end is great to watch
.
The game tonight against San Jose will be interesting. If Luongo has one of his better games,
I see no reason why Vancouver shouldn't come away with another win. It will be good for the
team if Lu has a strong game. As much as we all like to bash Luongo these days, when he is at his
best, there are few better.

Yep, what was that quote in "Julius Caesar", about the bad living after them while "the good is oft interred with their bones"?

What was the final score, I didn't see it at all, just caught your half time score.

If you ever get the chance to catch a replay of the game, talloola grab it. You will not be sorry - it was a game for the record books.

44-38 McMaster in OT.

Actually, the score was 41 to 38 Kreskin. They were tied at 38 a piece in DOT until the McMaster kicker got the twenty yarder for 3 points.

Oh ya. What did you think of the intercept in OT. I was waiting for the marching band to come on the field.

CANUCKS (12-9-1) at SHARKS (13-5-1)

TV: CBC, CSN-California (HD)

Last 10: Vancouver 6-4-0; San Jose 7-2-1

Season Series: This is the first of four meetings between last season's Western Conference finalists. The Canucks won tht series in five games, but it took two overtimes and 54 saves from goalie Roberto Luongo in the decisive game to do so. Two regular-season meetings went to shootouts in 2010-11, with Vancouver and San Jose winning one each.

Big Story: Both teams are enter HP Pavilion on winning streaks -- Vancouver has won three straight, San Jose four -- that suggest they are rounding into form. Saturday's game should be a stern test for two of the West's hottest teams.

Team Scope:

Canucks: After a tepid start, the Canucks are reminding the League why they left the rest of the West in the dust last season. They've outscored opponents 10-1 while winning their last three games, including shutouts in Colorado (3-0 on Wednesday) and Phoenix (5-0 on Friday). Here's a stat that should worry future opponents: Vancouver still owns the best power-play conversion rate (24.5 percent) despite scoring all eight goals during the two shutouts at full strength.

While the offense is clicking, the real story of Vancouver's run has been the play of backup goalie Cory Schneider - spelling the injured Luongo. He has won three in a row and stopped 73 of 74 shots in that span.

"We were pretty sound defensively tonight. When we did have breakdowns, a couple there in the first period, Schneids was there," center Ryan Kesler said. "He's been there for the last three games for us. He's been our best player each and every night."

Sharks: A successful team is often defined by players who seem to singlehandedly pull their peers through games. Forwards who find an extra gear to put away the game-winner with seconds to play, say, or defensemen who sacrifice life and limb to preserve a tenuous lead. Wednesday night in San Jose, that player was goalie Antti Niemi. In a 1-0 win against Chicago in which San Jose were void of attack (21 shots) and often sloppy on defense (13 giveaways, 8 PIMs), Niemi made 34 stops against his former team for his fifth straight win and first shutout of the season.

"He made some tremendous saves," Sharks coach Todd McLellan said. "He exuded confidence. We were able to survive a night where we didn't play well."

Who's Hot: While he was poor against Chicago - along with every Shark save Niemi - Patrick Marleau tallied a hat trick at Colorado and two assists against Dallas.

Injury Report: Vancouver's injury list is as long as it is varied. Keith Ballard (back) and Andrew Ebbett (foot fracture) are out indefinitely. Nolan Baumgartner will miss at least a month with a broken foot. Steve Pinizzotto (shoulder surgery), Byron Bitz (groin surgery) and Mason Raymond (fractured vertebrae) are on injured reserve. … San Jose is healthy except for goalie Antero Niittymaki, who has been sidelined all year while he recovers from hip surgery. His return is approximately a month away.

Stat Pack: Niemi can't protect the Sharks from themselves forever, and Vancouver might be the team that finally exploits their weak penalty kill. San Jose is 28th on the PK (76.2 percent), putting it almost as close to the bottom as Vancouver is to the top of PP conversion (1st with 24.5 percent). If last season's conference finals are any indication, San Jose will have their hands full. Nine of Vancouver's 19 goals in that series came on the man advantage.

Puck Drop: When asked after the Phoenix game which goalie he would start Saturday, Canucks coach Alain Vigneault was coy.

"I know who's going to play," Vigneault said. "I'm going to tell my goaltender tonight on the plane, so I've got to tell them before I tell you."
