I was pondering today the reason why I feel so much more personally saddened by this news than I would have anticipated. Yes, a death from cancer is always sorrowful and indeed when it does occur to someone who is well known it can certainly trigger us to reflect on those whom we have personally known that has battled this dreadful disease. I'd bet there are not too many of us that have not been personally touched by cancer in one way or another in our lives.

But I found myself recalling the election and the huge gains won by NDP and seeing his beaming, not smiling but beaming, face when the results came in. Who doesn't feel a sense of pride and joy when watching the little guy, the underdog, climb to the top of the hill? Whether you're on the underdogs team or not, who doesn't love to see someone beat the odds?

Sadly, in the end, he was not able to beat the odds. And it is so sad that he will not be able to enjoy any of his hard won spoils. He did earn them.

I think he still may be watching! I think most of us "knew" a month ago the end was close at hand.

I think so, just cuz the "carton" is kaput doesn't mean the contents is!
Yeah, I don't have any really definitive thoughts or beliefs on that myself. But, in my heart of hearts, I'd like to believe in the eternal, whatever shape or form that takes. I do believe we are more than the sum of our parts.

While taking my walk this morning I got to thinking it would really be a bummer if we never got the answers to all the things we've been wondering about!

Isn't he entitled to one as the Leader of the Loyal Opposition?

I would have thought so too but it doesn't seem to be the case from what I'm reading on Heritage Canada website.

It says Royal Family, current PM, former PM, Governal General (current and former), spouses of former Governal Generals, and serving Cabinet Minsters.

Unless the national ceremony is just not handled by Heritage? But I would think any state funeral would have to follow the same protacols.

Have we had a Oppostion Leader die in office before?

I guess it would have been more classy just to ignore this thread rather than say something disagreeable.

Do you piss on graves often?

RIP Jack. A strong fighter, one cancer too many. He'll be missed, and in the end I think he'll be remembered more for his tenacity than for his politics.

I guess if a person wanted to get technical (and be a bit of a pr*ck) he wasn't the leader of the opposition when he died. I only mention this because I'm sure when things are done by "protocol", it is pretty strict.

Ya, I was just reading that site too.

Wow, you'd think he'd be entitled to one regardless.

Good thing the Gov't isn't what all the usual suspects make them out to be.

You bet, sometimes these "titles" have their drawbacks!

Of course they're not, although I'm sure many will overlook that. I was just reading Harper's statement, saying how much he regretted never getting together with Jack for a jam session, lol.

Yep, that man is definitely evil.

RIP Jack, I will proudly say that I did vote for his party this time around.

On a side note, I see that a low life has seen fit to spread our "dirty laundry" on to another board. Doesn't say much for that "member".

I won't quibble about Harper not really being the boss (that would be us ;) but I will say it is nice to see that even a politician can have moments of grace.

Are you receiving a salary that reflects that?:lol::lol:
